Toy Story Replicas (No trading-related posts please)

This video was uploaded today. It’s a retro-style commercial of Old Timer from TS of Terror, similar to the Lotso Huggin’ Bear one.

What I want to know is where/if I can get that toy. Looks pretty much perfect in this video.

You and me both my friend. It’s perfect in the commerical, hope they make it

Keep in mind that Pixar has a guy on staff that creates all their props and probably did this one. He even does full sculpts of all the characters. He does amazing work. His work was on display in the halls of the main Pixar building when I visited during the TS3 launch. Unfortunately, security is super tight and they don’t let you take any pictures on the second floor where all of this is kept. I tried sneaking one picture and got caught :frowning: They are serious like North Korea, but I can understand why. LOL

You’re telling me there is a whole floor of pixar that has a real life model of every toy and you can’t even take pictures? Thats just cruel. Send that dude to freaking Thinkway!

OK, I’ve got to know who this guy is and send him, like, a lifetime supply of like ice cream or cereal (you know for like Pixar’s ceral bar or something) or whatever and have him make me a Stinky Pete or Combat Carl or something. 8D I have to get into Pixar, but since I live in Ohio, I have to take a plane to Pixar and my family can’t really afford a plane ticket to California. If I ever go, me and my older bro are going.

OK, I know I’m not supposed to double-post, but I had to tell you guys this. Today, my 1995 Bo Peep finally came! It came with everything except the box! Even the shoes! Now that is what I call a good deal. :sunglasses:

Congrats. I bought her for close to $200, but it was well worth it.

This is the probably the closest thing to Prospector we will get from Disney Store:

Guys I’m looking for the roly poly clown and troikas any leads ?

PM Slink for a set.

Jeez, that’s hideous. Some Disney merchandise takes the characters and really just makes them as ugly as possible.

Well, I was on eBay the other day and spotted the Young Epoch Stinky Pete for 849 dollars :astonished: . It’s the one with the box that looks exactly like the one in the movie. There’s NO way my parents will pay that much for a toy, or erm, well collectible. If anyone needs Prospector, here you go.

ebay.com/itm/Disney-Toy-Stor … 20e7592ab1

There’s no way anyone should have to pay that much for a collectible. Sellers are only price gouging these things because fans and collectors see this as the closest they’ll get to a movie version… which at this point, it is. Even people looking to get the full Young Epoch set are SOL because the sellers got greedy. Most these should reasonably cost is $100. When it comes to the other characters, you could probably find them for $150 or less with a bit of searching.

Does Thinkway know what’s going on here? I know many people have made the request for Prospector, but they should look out for the little guys and put an end to this $800+ insanity.

^I agree. I know Thinkway thinks people only want main characters but seriously Thinkway, when everyone says they want a character and have been begging you to make said character, you should contact Pixar and ask them to make one,(if Pixar still has the digital data for TS2). I don’t think they do unfortunately, at least ones they can edit.

I’ve been wanting a full-scale Stinky Pete ever since I was a kid and I never got one. Another one I wanted was a Zurg and I had to wait almost 12 years for one. I was born 5 years after the original came out, but I LOVED Pixar even when I was one or two. I’m glad I had an older brother who was born even before the first Toy Story because if not, I wouldn’t have had some of the minor toys that cost a fortune nowadays. I have Mr. Mike (both the small and big versions) and the Toy Story 2 on Ice Lenny, as well as a few of the 1995 figures.

Stinky Pete’s pretty much the only main character from the first two films I need a full-scale replica of. If Thinkway made one, it would actually sell, unlike the one in the movie. 8D

There are lots of problems with the Young Epoch version of Stinky Pete besides the current prices for the different versions of them. For one thing, the box and product isn’t even movie accurate, meaning it’s missing the gold pan, missing the faux wooden paneling inside the box, missing the cutouts of the moon on each side of the box. Even the box text is not entirely accurate. The body “clothing” of the movie character appears as molded, painted, hard plastic (hat may be the exception?) while the Young Epoch version is made of fabric. And where is the standout shiny gold tooth? Yes, we all fall back to the, “Well, it’s the closest we’re going to get to the movie version so it’s the best” mantra. But, it still is not accurate and it’s definitely not worth the current going prices that most general Toy Story collectors are willing to pay.

Regarding the seller on eBay (from Quebec) who is currently trying to sell the $800 (as of November 4, 2014) Stinky Pete: he has been trying to sell that thing for many months now. I offered him $700 for it back in June or July and he turned down. Shortly after my offer, he tried selling it for $699 (yes, my eyebrows were raised when I saw that); no one bought it and I was no longer interested. So, after two weeks at $699, he bumped the price up to $1199. Still scratching my head over that one. He changes the selling price–and sometimes the shipping cost–on a fairly regular basis. Now, I just enjoy watching his Stinky Pete auction more for entertainment purposes because of his pricing changes from week to week. (If I’m not mistaken, at one point, he was trying to sell it for $1999.) Caveat emptor.

Like so many other Toy Story fans, I hope Thinkway will rethink Thinky Pete… er, I mean, Stinky Pete…wait, I mean the Prospector.

Rant time!

Sometimes, I wish Thinkway would actually listen to the collectors for once. There is an obvious interest in their toys by fans and we are willing to spend close to $60 on their high quality products. All we ask is for more secondary characters to receive some representation in their toy line. They seem to care little about the obvious demand for Stinky Pete, Combat Carl, etc. I think that children will buy any Toy Story toy that has some resemblance to the characters onscreen and has some sort of gimmick that makes them appealing.

With the amount of limited edition dolls Disney Store puts out and the recent Hero-Villain combo pack back in 2012, I would have thought that Prospector might have seen some sort of re-release by now. Disney Store tends to be more hush with their projects which makes them more unreliable to try to appeal to. I believe that they have more potential to pick up where Thinkway left off on their products to cash in on Toy Story Replicas. The most I’ve seen from them was the release of Zurg, Rex, and Karate-Chop Buzz Lightyear.

I’m not sure how involved Pixar is with what is manufactured by Thinkway but it might be possible to ask for accurate renditions of some lesser focused characters. Notable heads like Lee Unkrich obviously has seen the dedication by fans of the series with wampar’s toy collection and Angus MacLane set up a “kickstarter-esque” campaign for the Lego bunny; clearly they are aware of the interest.

I’m not entirely sure how we can make our demands known, but I guess addressing them to multiple outlets might send the message. Keep in mind, this rant is based on pure frustration and wishful thinking but it does raise some valid points.

As much as I need a Stinky Pete, I really don’t want Disney Store to make it, as the quality on their Toy Story toys has gone down. With that said, I would probably still get it, as Stinky Pete is mostly plush (I’m guessing). Another thing is that he wouldn’t have his movie-accurate box, which is one of the main things I need a Prospector with.

What I mean by the quality has gone way down is this: I have the Buzz and Zurg set and I wasn’t impressed with the quality at all. Just touching them I could tell they were cheap plastic. Well, while I was playing with Buzz (not rough play), his leg snapped off! Keep in mind I was 12 when I got them.

If a 12 year old’s toy breaks, imagine what a 5 year old’s Buzz would be like. It’d probably be broken in a month! One thing I love about Thinkway’s toys is that their products are very high quality, and even though they’re expensive, they gonna last if you play with them. I have most of the TSC and out of all of them, Buzz is the one you have to get. I got mine 5 years ago and other than a few minor scuff marks and parts of the plastic clear bulbs around the end being cracked, everything still works.

“Play And Enjoy This Toy!” Yeah, I don’t think they were going for complete screen accuracy with this one.

In all seriousness, I don’t think they weren’t even meant to be replicas, the fact that they’re based off the marionettes makes it clear. But it’s the "close enough crowd that took interest in Prospector and (formerly Bullseye). It was a cool series, but seemed to be built as a novelty collectible and not a toy.

I didn’t think it was very accurate either. Probably the most accurate Prospector is the DS one from I believe 1999 0r 2000, which had a plastic head. I don’t think it’s in scale to the movie, though. DOes anyone know how tall Prospector is in the movie compared to Woody?

I’d like to give a shoutout to the best fan made Prospector I’ve ever seen:

This guy’s work is unreal, check out more on his page:
facebook.com/media/set/?set … 970&type=3

Expression is dead on. Only minor, minor nitpicks are the lack of sifting pan, open finger hand (same model as Woody '95), and if this got the Thinkway treatment, maybe a the same material as Woody’s shirt for the bandana.

Now that we have a new movie coming we’re bound to get characters that fans have been clamoring for for a while. I would be surprised if we didn’t get a proper Trixie now. Probably Stinky pete too. They’ve exhausted the more popular characters already, so unless they just plan on going back and redoing the characters we already have, but even better, along with any new characters, us collectors should be in for a treat.
