It’s supposed to reair Friday the 12th on the Disney channel I’m pretty sure.
And after watching the toon I really want an Angel Kitty now.

I actually really liked it! I think it could have stood to be a little longer, but maybe… I don’t know. I enjoyed all the new characters, except maybe the Angel Kitty. She irritated me, and I don’t know why. I feel bad. She’s really cute, too. I was actually expecting a bigger reaction from the Battlesaurs when they found out they were toys. Did the Cleric know all along? Or did he just go along with it?
Villainess, I think it’ll reair on ABC Family on Sunday at 7 and 9:30 (Central Time Zone). I’ll definitely be rewatching it!
It was a decent, enjoyable special. I kind of wanted to see more of the toys we know and love rather than all the new ones. There were some funny jokes in there, though, ([spoil]“What’s ignorance?”[/spoil]), and [spoil]Buzz and Woody fighting for their lives was the most enjoyable scene of the special in my opinion. Probably because it was Woody and Buzz instead of Trixie.[/spoil]
[spoil]While the toys-who-don’t-know-they’re-toys thing is a bit played out by now, Buzz’s one line in response to Woody describing the problem (something along the lines of “imagine that!”) was pretty funny and made up for it a bit.
Can we talk about how gigantic some of those toys and playsets were? I mean seriously, Mason’s room must be GIGANTIC. It’s not terribly evident just watching it because of camera perspective tricks and all, but knowing the actual size of Woody, Rex, & co. just made me astounded at the scale of everything else. I mean, that one dinosaur ate Buzz and Woody, and there was still room for Rex to go in and pull them out.[/spoil]
Also I really, really want a proper-size Trixie now more than ever before.
Interestingly enough, they did start using a filter that mimicked the real life Buzz since Toy Story 2. The ending of Toy Story 3 was even more nostalgic when they used the same voice clip for “to infinity and beyond.”
Alright… I have to admit the special was pretty good. I missed it when it aired, so I turned to the “Bay of the Pirates” and found someone had already uploaded an HD version without commercials. It’s 21 minutes long which is pretty decent for a special. So Trixie is the MAIN character. It’s obvious that the people at Thinkway were not given a sneak peak at this special or even a copy of the storyline. The Buzz and Woody that they are selling are not even in the special. At no time do they have armor. So sad that there is such disconnect between Disney/Pixar and Thinkway.
I imagine it was less not knowing what goes on with the special and more selling what they think more people are likely to buy.
Yeah, you’re probably right…but they guessed wrong with this consumer. I won’t be picking these up.
Yeah, it’s really disappointing that we didn’t get a Trixie or Reptilius. [spoil]Woody and Buzz don’t even have armor in the special[/spoil].
Ha… All the references to the original. And I so want goliathon. THey are content in their own ignorance!
I went to Walmart a few days ago and they had the whole set! I didn’t pick any of them up but I’m not picking up Buzz or Woody. I wish there was a full-size Rex with robot arms but I guess that’s too good to be true…
Finally watched it. Not quite sure how I felt about it. I enjoyed the first seven minutes of it, and can’t quite figure out why I didn’t enjoy the rest.
Angel Kitty was the best thing about this special. I love that thing. I like how they didn’t grind her joke into the ground by using it too much, though admittedly she did just kind of disappear for a while.
[spoiler]Did they offer any explanation as to why all of them are deluded except the one?
And the battle scene bothered me, mainly because it takes Trixie like five minutes to move, and Woody never struck me as that much of a total wimp (and Buzz never thinks to attack the guy while he’s fighting Woody).[/spoiler]
Also, another easter egg I just came across while rewatching the special is that Bonnie and Mason are actually playing the Buzz Lightear Attack On Zurg game from Toy Story 2. It’s only seen for two seconds near the end when TV turns off but you listen closely you can hear sound effects from it like the spiked walls closing in on Buzz.
So just to let you guys know… TSTTF was fantastic and I love it to pieces. It was extremely well done, and man the amount of detail they put into the whole Battlesaur world! And I love Trixie even more now… and I didn’t think it was possible to do so! Everything was just stellar! Even though I miss having a full movie from Pixar this year, the shorts and this special combined have made for a truly wonderful and delightful year for Pixar
I really loved this special! I’d love to see Pixar expand on the Battlesaurs and use them in future projects(Reptillus for Toy Story 4!). I’ve actually lost count of how many times I’ve rewatched it haha. I’ve always loved Pixar films, but this special is what drove me to make an account on these forums.
I’m not sure how I feel about it. I initially went straight here to post my reaction but realized I didn’t have one…
I’ll say this, I don’t think it was as strong as Toy Story of Terror. It probably could have been told in less time, which would make sense since this was initially planned as a 6 minute short. Maybe it should have stayed that way to tighten up the story. There were definitely some good parts, but something was just off about the pacing. It wasn’t bad, just not as memorable. Its a bit of a blur.
And weirdly enough I didn’t like how non toy like the sets were. It felt like they were trying more than ever to make it feel like they weren’t toys. I get that the idea was that this kid was super spoiled but then you loose the sense that these are toys. That’s always been part of the charm. The lack of slink for the second short in a row really annoys me. I just wanted a quick line or two at least.
Also, the girl that voices bonnie sounds noticeably older now. Not a complaint really, just an observation.
maybe shes gotten older.
sorry to double post, but upon veiwing it again, if you pause it at the exact right second, you see the footage from TS2 of buzz flying through the little mountain valley from the films beginning.
^I think I’ve already mentioned that.
i was just backing you up on that, as a second witness.
Things I liked: The simple jokes like “What’s ignorance” and Buzz’s reaction to the dinos not knowing they were toys.
Bonnie’s backpack was cool, since you wouldn’t expect of all the themes she would have a Buzz bag.
The toy-not-knowing-they’re-a-toy was well-done, considering we’ve seen it before.
Things I didn’t like:
It had basically nothing to do with Christmas. I’ve been waiting on a Christmas special forever, but this could’ve been passed as a normal special. Not something that feels like it’ll be a tradition to watch on Christmas, rather something that I’ll watch just because it’s been labeled a Christmas special.
A lot of the lines felt really cheesy, like they were spoon-feeding to the audience “These toys know they’re toys, and really like to be played with”. Characters said things like “wow that was great” or whatever after the kids played with them, it felt kinda weird. I like the position of the first movie more where they treat being toys like a job, where they have “staff meetings”. They can still love the kid, but here it felt a little weird and almost creepy to me.
I don’t much care for Trixie or any of the new characters really, but I get that they’re trying to flesh them out and make it apparent they’re all part of the family. Still, Trixie didn’t really do much for me. She’s basically just a care-free, always-surpised or always-loving character. I’d rather have focus on one of the older characters, or a pair of them like Potato-Head and Rex or Hamm and Slink.
I also didn’t like the visual impression of Mason’s room. It lost the feeling that it was a bedroom with toys. They made it look the way it does when we see it through a kid’s vision, but here it was supposed to be reality. Things like the dinosaur Colosseum could be funnier if it was smaller and more mundane looking, rather than it actually looking big and epic.
Buzz should’ve been a much better fighter than what he was. It would have also been a nice opportunity for Woody to pull the old “use your karate chop action!”.
