"Up" coming to Blu-ray/DVD.... in November

Gragh, I was so distraught when I spotted that Steelbook case at Best Buy the other day. My dad had already placed his pre-order at Wal*Mart a month or so ago, and probably wouldn’t switch. I realize I can just pay 7.50…but going to Best Buy is a rare occasion, as none are around my location anymore.

Time to watch eBay!

Dangit, I want that steelbook, but now I have a dilemma, being that I can’t get it at midnight if I get it at best buy,…

Seriously, that’ll be the most agonizing 9 hours of my life, it’ll be OUT, but I won’t have it. NOT COOL. What do I do? :\

*Edit: oh, hehe, I’ll just go bug the stockers at Wal-Mart, never mind!

I do have a question though, does the book itself have slots for the discs, or is it just a cover for the DVD and Blu-ray cases?

miafka: By “standard DVD”, do they mean the one disk? Cause there’s no way I’m buying that, but I really want that case…

I just had a look at Best Buy’s website. The steelbook is now “backordered” online. I have no idea if they’ll get more in or not. However if you want one it’s worth just checking out your local store (assuming you live near one), as there hasn’t been much publicity for this yet – and when I checked just now to see if any of the stores in my area still had them in stock (you can check on their website to see if a local store has it in stock), all six stores still had them in stock. I think what’s happened is that some people found out about this and online people have been snapping them up (with some selling them on ebay, sigh). But most people don’t know about it yet, so the local stores still (at least around me) all have them in stock. Not one of my local stores is out of them yet.

As for which DVD format you need to buy, at least online ALL the DVD options qualified for the free steelbook (as I mentioned, I ordered the 2-disc standard DVD set and got my free steelbook). Yes, the wording (“standard DVD”) is vague and doesn’t specify if it applies to both the 1-disc standard and 2-disc standard sets, but again, online it worked for any/all of them… and Best Buy is very good about honoring their online prices/policies in-store (I’ve experienced this myself in the past… they’re very good about honoring their on-line prices and offers in the store). So if you want the steelbook I’d suggest going down to a local Best Buy (as they’re currently sold out online) and just picking it up at your local store (check online first though, to make sure your local store still has it in stock). If anyone gives you trouble, just have them look at the webiste, where ALL of the DVD options for “Up” have a little checkmark by them that says they qualify for the free steelbook case.

ffdude1906: didn’t understand your post. Wal-Mart won’t be getting them in, just Best Buy. What did you mean by midnight? You don’t have to wait… if your local Best Buy has it in stock you can just go down anytime during business hours and get it.

As far as if it has slots for the discs or is just a cover, as I said initially, I’m keeping mine shrinkwrapped until the actual movie discs come out, so I don’t know for sure… but somewhere online last night someone uploaded a picture of the inside of it, and it had places to put the individual discs (rather than it being just a “cover” for another DVD box). Note that I didn’t open mine up to verify this, and don’t know if that picture was from the BestBuy version or another shop/country’s version, but I assume it’s got a place inside for the discs. And speaking of other countries, for those of you in Canada, I think I read that Futureshop (Canada) will be offering the same steelbook, but please double-check and verify this; I didn’t really look into it that much because of Best Buy offering it here in the US.

Mykonos_Fan: why do ebay? As you said yourself, you can just go buy it for $7.50 at a Best Buy store right now before they sell out like they’ve done online. I had a look on ebay today, and they were going for a lot more than that (plus shipping and everything else). If you really want it, just go pick it up at Best Buy. It’s not a problem cancelling a preorder at WalMart (it’s illegal for anyone to charge a credit card anyway, before an item is actually shipped, and I know you can return anything at WalMart that’s unopened, so even if it means having to go to WalMart in person to pickup and then return it, you still can, as long as it’s unopened and unused).

I think what ffdude was saying was that, if he wants the Steelbook, he has to buy the movie from Best Buy, and Best Buy (yeah, this is my rant) doesn’t open until the ridiculously late hour of 10 am (!), whereas Walmart is open 24 hrs a day (although I don’t know what time Walmart would have the movie on the shelves).

I’m hoping that someone has something comparable to the bonus disk Target had for Ratatouille. That was definitely worth getting.

What I meant is that I’ll pick up the steelbook at Best Buy and get the movie itself at Wal-Mart, since you don’t have to do a full price deposit for the movie at Best Buy, that way I’ll get the steelbook AND get the movie the SECOND it’s released (hence the midnight thing, I want this baby ASAP). Best Buy doesn’t open at midnight, so I’d have to go somewhere else to get the Blu-Ray.

Got my steelbook tonight, it’s really nice! A bit smaller than I imagined, I thought it’d be the same size as most DVD boxes. I’m kind of debating whether or not to unwrap it, I wanna see the back (the picture of Carl and the gang under the house) but there’s a cardboard insert covering it. Still, I want it to stay in perfect shape. It’s really cool though, I love it.

Can’t wait! 24 days left! (bah, so long!)

Another thing, PixarTalk posted a Blu-Ray pre-release review today on twitter, took a looksee, apparently it’s absolutely exceptional! (I’d expect no less!) The guy apparently has a thing for Mike Giacchino as well, he mentions how great the score is more than a few times, hehe. Here’s the link

pixartalk.com/2009/10/16/fir … ay-review/

Oh, man, I am so geeking out here - Thanks for that link, ffdude! I just read the long review and detail on all the bonus features. Oh, gosh, I cannot wait for this! And I’m so glad the guy mentioned the Easter Egg, because I’m never any good at finding those, and this is one I absolutely can’t wait to see! That, and that “Shining” moment he mentioned, ooo-ooo-ooo… You’re right, too, he praised MG’s score (rightly so!) multiple times. Oh, man, I am so pumped up and excited!

Glad you managed to get the steelbook. Yeah, it’s shorter than a standard DVD box, but it’s thicker. If anyone’s curious, the Ratatouille steelbook that was available only in Canada (a relative was nice enough to pick one up for me) was DVD height but very thin (after all, there was only 1 disc for the Ratatouille standard DVD release) and came shrinkwrapped together side-by-side with the standard DVD. No pictures on it at all… just a nice deep blue background with the “Ratatouille” logo on the front. Up’s steelbook on the other hand is thick (to hold all the discs inside) and has pictures and is very well done. And if there’s space in there for an extra disc (not buying the bluray) I might just press my own hard copy of the Up soundtrack and put it in there (sigh).

Thanks for the pic and link, though I’m sticking to the standard DVD release. Can’t bring myself to get into bluray. Hopefully there will be a few eggs on the standard DVD as well…

Ugh, I swear, everytime I say I can’t do something on the internet, I get to do it right after. (Maybe I should say I can’t find a million dollars outside my house? )

Anyways, yeah, picked up a Steelbook. I couldn’t wait, and unwrapped it. It’s awesome. I won’t say much more to agonize anyone that’s waiting though, other than it’s certainly worth the 7.50!

Apparently, it looks like the review has been removed…
:frowning:

Whoa, what the heck?! There was most definitely a review there, it was pretty huge, and I read the whole thing! Dang, it was such a good review, I’ll try to let the PixarTalk guy know about it, maybe he can fix it.

Ah, such a shame! I wanted to read that review!

I read somewhere that the dvd and blu-ray will be released on the 15th of december over here! That’s a lot sooner than expected, since it has onlu been in theatres since October 7th. Can’t wait! The steelcase looks amazing btw, I’m so jealous, not much change that we’ll see it here :frowning: .

High-Def Digest removed their review due to request from Disney, because they thought it was too early. It is now up again for reading. Anyway, DVDBeaver just posted their review of Blu-ray release, with full resolution screenshots.

Up just released here in the theatres, 2 weeks ago. We won’t be getting the DVD/BD til January, so I guess I’ll have to pre-order it in France. :stuck_out_tongue:

Aww man, started getting even more hyped for this today, went to movie gallery so my mom could get Seven Pounds and 300 (of all movies for a mom to get, haha!) and saw a tiny flyer for Up on DVD/BD taped to the counter. I was almost tempted to rip the thing off and take it with me, and I got super excited. Cmon, just 2.5 more weeks Chris, just 2.5 more weeks, I can do this,…

Haha, actually i’m from the netherlands too! On dvd.nl some pomeone who worked at a shop posted that the system showed a December 15th releasedate for the Blu-ray! It is very soon, but I geuss it can happen, they probably want the christmas sales!

Let me just say,…

Thank you SO much for this link. Those stills are STUNNING, I’m dying to get my mitts on this disc, seriously. I need it now, it’s just so gorgeous,… sigh Cannot WAIT to see Up again, and in glorious quality too, gee whiz

I can’t wait to get my hands on that Blu-ray.
This looks really jam-packed with (as usual) flawless video and audio quality.

I’m especially looking forward to the alternate version of “Married life”.
A friend of mine has already seen it - they screened it during Kevin Nolting’s presentation The Editing of Up at this year’s eDIT festival, and it was really hilarous from what he told me.

That does make sense, yes… Who doesn’t want their movie to be released around Christmas?
