"Up" coming to Blu-ray/DVD.... in November

Well, this is not really news for us. PAL speedup has been around for decades, and pitch correction is rarely used (the English language track on “Cars” is the only example I can think of), so most people around here don’t even notice it without a direct A/B comparison.

I’m glad that at least on Blu-ray there is no longer any PAL speedup so everything has the proper speed and pitch.

HDTV broadcasts of footage filmed in 24/30/60 Hz will still have the speedup, though, because in PAL countries we are stuck with 25/50 Hz for TV broadcasts.

OK, I’m goin’ to Best Buy! Buy the Blu-Ray or DVD and for an extra $4.99, get your talking plush Dug! Target’s got a free Wilderness Explorer journal, but they’re also $3 higher on the BR. And I want the plushie Dug. Just two more days!!

I saw this in the Best Buy flyer in my local paper.

If you buy the Blu-ray at Best Buy, you can buy the following for the following prices ($10 off):
-Dug plush (looks like the UK version) ($4.99)
-Monsters Blu-ray ($18.99)
-Cars Blu-ray gift set ($22.99)
-Up game for DS ($9.99)

Can you get those that night, or is it beforehand? I’d be happy to get my hands on the plush, and the DS game seems cheap enough that I’d get it.

Since everything there but the video fame released Nov. 10, I figure it’s midnight onwards. I’ll probably get the Dug plush. Also, I don’t think that this has been posted before, but if you enter the code on one of the vouchers in the Up DVD on the Disney Movie Rewards site, you can order a free Baby Kevin plush plus you can get regular Kevin for $11.

Haha, I’m so jealous of you guys right now. Not only do I have to wait for the blu for probably two more months, but you guys get all these cool extra’s :astonished: .

  • Baby kevin plush
  • Talking dug plush
  • Steelbook

Damn  .

I have a question, I don’t know if anyone said this yet, but I don’t want to go through 9 pages searching for it.

If I pre-order the “UP (Two-Disc Deluxe Edition + Digital Copy)” now, will it come the 10th?

Cause it says this, “Want to receive this the day it comes out?
Order it in the next … hours and … minute, and choose One-Day Shipping at checkout.”

Here’s the page: [url]Amazon.com

Man, I typed that like I was asking a question on yahoo answers.

Wolfy: I’m pretty sure it will, but I’ve never actually used speed shipping on Amazon.

Great offer: amazon.com/gp/feature.html?i … 1&plpage=1

Sweet! Thanks for the info Bryko and Karly, sounds like I’ve got some more swag heading my way! Especially since a friend of mine works at the Best Buy I’m going to, and he’s gonna grab all the promo displays and posters for me. SWEET!

Yes it will! I did that with Harry Potter 7 and I got the book about midday of the day.

miafka: I’m thinking about all the dvd buying competition Up will have in the next few weeks: Transformers pushed 5M copies a few weeks ago, then Ice Age3 came out, and now HP6 and StarTrek on the way, all to compete with Up in an era of diminishing dvd sales due to the recession, netflix, and ez cheap renting. (I’m renting the IA3 dvd right now to see if there are any juicy extras, and bought the last 2 as used copies).

But mostly I came to this thread because I’m confused, and these 9 pages are hard to slog thru. I don’t have a blu-ray, bought my first dvd player just for Wall-E, but want to see all the features worth seeing. There seem to be 2 choices in the current Best Buy ad circular: one disk for regular dvd players, and a 4 disk for blu-ray/non blu-ray. Ok, so let’s say I buy the latter at a slightly higher price than the single one. The word is that there are extra features on at least one of those blu-ray disks, unavailable on the regular dvd player. Is this true? If so it’s very upsetting to me, I just paid $175 bucks, twice as it turned out, and now some built-in obsolesence seems to be forcing me to buy an incremental technology. What is the reasoning for this? Seems like a scam to me if true.

I’ve read some stuff on page 4 here by eerik on August 10th. It shows quite a number of features that I won’t be able to see this fall. Two days to go.

DHoSW:
Yeah, the Best Buy circular did NOT show everything.
Besides the 1-disc normal DVD and the BluRay set, there’s also a 2-disc Normal DVD set. This is what I’m getting (and I’m getting it from Best Buy. In fact I already got the email telling me it’ll be in tomorrow).
It has TWO discs, plus a digital copy disc as well. There are a bunch of special features on this version (not as much as on bluray of course, but way more than you’d get on the 1-disc set).
Here’s the listing on Best Buy’s site:

And here it is at Amazon:

I HAVE IT

I am SO happy right now guys, this is awesome. I’m not getting to watch it on Blu-Ray yet, but I’ll be able to soon.

Ahh, I’m SO HAPPY!

EDIT: Well, just finished number 51, and it was great! The quality just on the DVD is exceptional, I don’t see how the Blu-Ray can be better in all honesty. Saw all the features in the DVD, they’re pretty nice. Just gotta do the commentary tomorrow. Should be nice.

Really amazing.

If you have a nice HDTV, wou will be surprised. I makes all the difference.

So I was going to get UP and Monsters at Best Buy because of the $10 off but I decided to stop in Target first since they’re next door. So glad I did because the $10 is a coupon attached to all the Monsters Inc. Blu-Rays! So instead of spending $42.98 at Best Buy for just the Blu-Rays I spent $43.98 at Target and got the Target exclusive Journal. Happy dance

Then again, I wonder if you can use the $10 off coupon at Best Buy to get them for $32.98…

I couldn’t go to Best Buy until my lunch hour, and they were already sold out of Dug, so I went to Target and got the Journal instead. It’s cute!

I came home long enough to drop off my package - can’t wait for the day to be over!! South America, here I come!

(ps ffdude, I knew you would be the First Kid On Our Block to have it!)

EDIT: Major Disappointment

For those interested in the normal (not BluRay) DVD, from all information beforehand, it appeared that the “Deluxe” version (with the Digital Copy) would have a lot of extra features that the 1-disc set wouldn’t. This is not the case. I thought the “Composing for Characters” was supposed to be on the Deluxe normal DVD set as well as the BluRay. Not the case. From all advertising, it was touted as “2-disc set plus digital copy” when in actual fact it’s only ONE DVD (the “2nd DVD” being the digital copy disc). So I don’t know if it’s worth paying extra for what you get. I’m not sure what extra features (if any) come on the budget 1-disc DVD. Besides the Dug short (which is on all of the versions), this “Deluxe” set has a full director’s commentary, the 20-min or so documentary where they travel to South America, a couple of alternate scenes, and that’s about it for bonus features. I’m not sure if the budget 1-disc version even has a commentary (which is worth getting). But sadly, Disney has decided to withhold most of the other extras for the BluRay only, as they did with Ratatouille (Wall-E for some reason, actually had a decent normal DVD treatment).

Again, I don’t know if the 1-disc version even has a commentary. If it does, then it’s not worth getting this “Deluxe” edition, because you’re just paying for the digital copy. If the 1-disc version doesn’t have a commentary, than it might be worth getting this just for the commentary and the so-so featurette documenting them travelling to South America. A real disappointment. I’m glad I was able to find and download the “Composing for Characters” on YouTube.

End of EDIT. Sigh.

For those of you who ordered it at Best Buy: they will price-match other retailers, even if you bought it on line, and even if you got the free steelbook case with it. Call their 800 number (1-888-Best-Buy) and give them your order number and the name of the merchant selling it for less (like WalMart). Most likely your card has already been charged or authorized, but they will issue you a credit for the difference that you’ll see in 7-10 days. When you pick up the disc in the store, they’ll charge you the original price, but if you first call their phone number above (before picking it up in the store) they’ll also issue you a refund for the difference on your card. Actually I don’t know if you can do it after you’ve picked it up or not, but I suppose it’s always worth a try.

I wonder if there are any easter eggs on the disc even…

Just bought Up on DVD. Bought the 2 disc special edition.

@miafka Yeah, I got the 4 Disc, and it included all the features you mentioned, is the Many Endings of Muntz on yours as well? Rather short, but interesting. I can’t wait to dive into the Blu-Ray, gonna be SO GREAT!
