I beat it yesterday
A friend let me borrow Halo Wars recently, it’s not too shabby. First console RTS I’ve played, liking it so far.
Currently trying to get all the Skulls, and beat the Campaigns on Heroic and Legendary difficulties, since I’m a slight Achievement Hunter.
Anyone tried the newly released PSP Go? I went with a friend to a Sony outlet and asked to try a demo. It was switched off, but we had a ‘feel’, and it’s quite compact, much lighter and smaller than the regular PSP. Its buttons were a bit tiny too, and in shrinking its size, some screen ‘real estate’ had to be sacrificed. Not to mention all those UMD movies and games you bought can’t be played (although I bet Sony would come up with a plan for users to convert the files from the disc to be stored on the internal HD). Overall, very good-looking (if slightly effeminate ) machine, a bit like the Nintendo DS, as my pal remarked.
The PSPGo! certaintly looks pretty but I have no intention of getting one, the buttons are way too close together to make playing easy, especially the analog stick and d-pad which are horizontally next to one another, making it very difficult to play button intensive games, like Monster Hunter or FPSs without giving yourself finger cramp, I tried in store…
The lack of a UMD drive turns me off too, downloading items from the PSStore to the PSP is, for me, tenuous at the best of times, with large downloads often timing out or disconnecting before completion, so a console which relies solely on them isn’t that attractive to me.
So although it looks very nice and is a much better size than the original without some infrastructure and ergonomic uppdates it doesn’t seem worth it.
Saving up for a Ds so I can buy Scribblenauts (aweasomest game on the planet, google it!) and KH 358/2 Days. Big KH fan. XD
Scribblenauts is a pretty fun game but it can get difficult during the last half of the levels. My solution to just about every problem is to type “gun” and shoot whatever is in my way, but sometimes it’s against the rules so I automatically lose.
I’ve been having a hard time getting into Scribblenauts, and I’m a tad disappointed by it honestly. A lot of words make the exact same stuff (like laser and death ray, or sword and claymore) and the pure stylus control is irritating. It’s a great idea, but could have been done better. Very ambitious though.
I got a PS3 for my birthday and I recently got Need For Speed Shift & Need For Speed Undercover. While Shift is absolutely stunning, I seem to play Undercover much more…
Oh my Gosh, a PS3, Phileas? And NFS Undercover and Shift? Ahh…! You’re so incredibly lucky! I’m jealous now.
Haha, but Undercover was fun, huh? I like the cutscenes (at least, from what I’ve played in Internet cafes). Want to give Most Wanted a go, as I heard it’s one of the best in the ‘Modern Series’. Carbon apparently is a storyline continuation, but I heard it was disappointing. Shift looks like a way better improvement over the awful Pro Street, but I really hope they return to the ‘sports cars street-racing in exotic locales’ format they did in their classic games. I don’t really dig the ‘Acting Tough in the Hood and Pimpin’ Your Ride’ crap… I miss the good ol’ days.
I just discovered my dream game! Imagine this:
GTA’s Sandbox Gameplay+Second Life customisation+WOW MMORPG=APB
APB is the initialisation of the title All Points Bulletin. It’s like World of Warcraft, but set in an urban metropolis and you play as cops or robbers!
What makes this different from games such as GTA or Saints Row is that the depth of customisation is astounding! Like, the character personalisation is Spore-deep (without mutant variants of course!) and the car customisation NFS-deep!
Even more amazing, while you’re doing a mission, you can see others doing their own missions at the same time. So while you’re escaping the cops in a car chase, you may see a random shootout or explosion from other servers in the same area simultaneously! No word on whether you can interact with other players engaged in a different mission though.
I love the police procedural genre, so this is like a dream come true! Really, it looks better than how I describe it, so check out the trailers below.
I am currently hooked to the World of Warcraft. I’ve been playing the Warcraft strategy games since I was 6, so when WoW came out, I couldn’t wait to get it!
I actually got my parents to pay for my subscription!
It’s extremely time consuming though, especially if you want to get far in all the new end-game content. But still, the story/lore is awesome, and the game itself is sweet too.
I’ve already discussed Halo, so I’ll discuss here another gaming obsession.
It’s weird; I don’t like the Harry Potter franchise, what with its anti-snake messages (and I’m going no further than that here), yet I like the games for the first two installments. To help myself detract from the story, I’ve replaced virtually all of the music files in the second game with my own music, compiled from several games, films, and, some instrumental studio albums.
If you think that’s nerdy, wait until you hear this: with each piece I replaced, I made sure, even through modification of it, that the music would fit the mood.
Take the Dungeons in Hogwarts, for instance. The themes are a little eerie; hence, my replacing one of them with eerie music typical of a late-'90s game called Riven (Man, I wish I could play that on my Intel-based Mac ).
I’ve also modified some of the scripts; the basilisk, for instance, says the kind of things Moaning Myrtle would.
Cheat mode, on a slightly less nerdy note, has also helped me enjoy the game. For instance, it allows one to access the Gryffindor Challenge, which can only be accessed one way other than automatically transporting oneself across levels: behind one of many permanently locked doors. For those who haven’t gotten that far, it’s really fun; the only level I may never get bored of.
All right, I’ll shut up now.
World of Warcraft is something I’ve tried to get into, all my friends play it so I I’ve had a chance to make numerous characters, I even downloaded the free trial game. But as much as I try I cannot bring myself to like this game.
I’ve played Warcraft 3 and am fairly familiar with the Warcraft world but I hate how WoW takes all that interesting background info and squashes it into reams of unecessary quest text, removes it completely or completely subverts it.
I dislike the simple graphic style, I understand that this is so the game will run on most computers and i commend them for that but if I’m controlling an all-powerful sorcerer I want him to look like one, not like some childs doodling of an elf.
But the factor which really riles me is the gameplay, I’ve had a chance to play every class to some degree, and for the first 3-5 levels or so yes it is fun, but then I come to realise that the whole game is going to be like this; get a quest to either ‘go here’, ‘go here and kill X X’s’, ‘go here and get X X’s by killing X’, or ‘go kill a slightly harder X.’ People tell me that it’s more interesting at the end of the game, with raids and such, but I’ve tried that too and that’s just the same with the added bonus or people shouting at you.
Oh and the combat, ugh, it basically consists of ‘click on a target, mash the spell/attack buttons, is the target dead? If yes then good, go select another target, if no then you’re not a high enough level, go back and kill more stuff.’ It’s like fighting sticks that hit back, there’s no movement short of getting out of the range of area attacks, if your ‘dodge’ is reduced to a passive ability then there is something wrong with your combat system.
Sorry for that rant I just feel that people play WoW not because it’s a good game but just because it’s better than it’s competitors.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the latest game I’ve bought. I just finished the main campaign/story mode (I have yet to really dive into the multiplayer component of the game), but I must say this game is flippin’ amazing. If there’s any game that has come close to being a big budget Hollywood style movie, then the Uncharted series is probably the answer. They have everything, from a cast of characters, narrative storytelling, massive set-piece scenarios, and absolutely stunning visuals with a shocking attention to detail. The game was just a nonstop thrill ride.
I say if anyone has a PS3, Uncharted 2 is a MUST have. If you don’t have a PS3, Uncharted 2 is one of those games that should convince people to buy one.
I prefer Warcraft 3 myself. My favorite reason would have to be the fact that you can create your own levels instead of being forced to use a preset. With the Frozen Throne expansion, you can even make your own campaigns!
My primary interest in making new levels is modifying preexisting ones. For instance, I extracted what is arguably the predecessor to WoW, the Orc Expansion Campaign, and gave the Naga a more sympathetic light (one of my own Naga characters even takes the place of Rexxar), replaced the music with a music “system” a la Presto Studios games (in which you hear one or two loops and other parts of the piece chime in at random times), putting emphasis on music from Myst III: Exile, and threw in some other minor bonuses.
Yeah I love to use the World Editor too, mostly just to pass the time, the majority of maps I start don’t get finished but it’s fun to make interesting abilities, terrain and gameplay features.
I just got this game in the mail:
A very fun game, and WAY better than Thirllville, I love how you can run over the guests on your rollercoaster. I have built a few rollercoasters but it says I need more stations, how do I add more stations?
I definitely think that if you want a game that let’s you build amusement parks, the game definitely has to be Roller Coaster Tycoon.
Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 is a great game. I was pretty obsessed with the game a few years back. It’s just so rewarding building the best theme parks I can possibly make… My only [big] complaint about the game is that it has some serious lag issues.
I remember getting the original Roller Coaster Tycoon back in 98 or 99. I was so addicted to that game! I stayed up for three days straight playing that game! I only took breaks to eat, use the bathroom and take a shower. I loved Roller Coaster Tycoon 2, but I wasn’t addicted to it like I wa the orginial game. When part 3 was announced, I thought the addiction would return. The video’s I watched made the game seem like it was going to be something amazing. When I finally got it, I was so dissapointed by what I played. The game was clearly not done. And one of the main things that bothered me the most about the part 3 when it first came out is that I would built these great rides, but virutally nobody would get on them. I became frustrated and put the game down for a really long time. The updates they released still wasn’t giving me what I needed to enjoy the game. I ended up losing the game and decided to buy the Platinum edition this year because of it seemed like things that bothered me were finally fixed. So I’m gald I bought it again. I enjoy the game a lot more now. But nothing will beat that first time I loaded the original game into my computer and say it in action, I was amazed.
Hah, I’ve still got the original Roller Coaster Tycoon knocking about, I used to spend so much time on it as a kid. Speaking of which I’ve just found my old gameboy colour with Pokémon Blue version. I know what I’m doing this week…
Been talking Metroid Prime a lot lately with DocKenobi and I ran though the first one twice AGAIN, hehe. Pretty awesome considering the second one got me a new personal record for fastest completion time at 2:49. I could play through that game forever. I want another one!
