Video Games

Got Cars-O-Rama for the wii for Christmas…the animation is good, the cars better, and the speed the best. The storyline is okay but rather short. I would give it three stars out of five just because its so quick and easy to beat…but you can drive McQueen up to 200 which is pretty awesome!!

Yay, I managed to get a pre-owned copy of Twilight Princess for 40€ after all!

Looks pretty awesome, so far, although I prefer the fishing rod controls from Ocarina of Time.

I don’t think that’s particularly true, the older generations always complain about the younger, first it was music corrupting them, then television, then cars, then music again and at the moment it’s video games. The correlation between the increase in video games and violence in young people is not really that large.

I’m not saying that everyone who plays video games is calm and beatific, some of them will be violent, and potentially dangerous. But the same could be said of almost any demographic.

On a lighter note I spent the last month playing Spirit Tracks and it’s fantastic! There’s very little about it I don’t enjoy, the train is fun, the bosses are great. Some of the dungeons are perhaps a little lacklustre and some of the dungeon items you don’t get to use very often, I would have liked to see more of the [spoil]magic rod of earthbending[/spoil] for example, that was a great concept executed well, probably my favourite Zelda doodad.

The correlation between the increase in video games and violence in young people is not really that large.
This brings to mind the economic and scientific axiom (Wall-E reference, woo hoo!):

“Correlation does not imply causation.”

Just because two variables are related to one another does not imply one causes the other. There can only be a strong suggestion. Plenty of people play GTA/Kane and Lynch/Mass Effect/Super Mario Bros, but only a dumb minority actually believe you can get away with carjacking, bank robbery, extraterrestial relationships, killing people by jumping on their heads.

Anyhoo… got a couple cool games for my new PSP. First is Loco Roco. In case you guys haven’t heard of it, let me tell you: This is the happiest video game I have ever played in my entire life. Seriously, it’s so saccharine sweet, it’ll give you tooth decay. The gameplay is deceptively simple: You navigate the title character (what can be described as a Pac Man with antennae) around the surreal, dreamlike worlds by the shoulder bumpers on your PSP console. Along the way, you’ll encounter strange creatures, befriend the adorable Mui Mui (I always laugh when the Mui Mui speaks. “Mui! Mui!” 8D), and fight off those dreadlocked scoundrels, the Moja. It’s not very difficult to get to the end of the level, but the real challenge lies in exploring as much of it as possible to ‘save’ all the Locos (there’s 20 of 'em), as well as a couple of hidden goodies in the usual secret chambers. The music is oh-so-cheerful, and the colour scheme is bright and childlike; I was grinning like an idiot while playing through it! If there’s one game guaranteed to cheer you up, it’s Loco Roco.

The other is Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice. If you’re a fan of modern, over-the-top car chases like from the Matrix Reloaded and Bad Boys 2 or video games like Just Cause and GTA, this is the ticket for you. The protagonist is the Commander, a nameless cop in a special police division that specialises in high-risk pursuits and armed urban combat. Throughout the game, you have to take down four different gang factions, each with their own activities and motives, with an underlying bigger plot that will hold the entire country to ransom. While battling crooked criminals and psychotic terrorists, you’ll have to contend with a new riot unit (the suspicious Viper Squad) and a possible mole in the organisation. The story is simple, but engaging enough while delivering some surprises along the way. I had a blast with the unique gameplay, which has you hopping onto vehicles a la Agent Smith and hanging on roofs and hoods while in motion! The shootouts are simplistic but fun too, and the driving is fast-paced and furious. But the best part is the Chief’s angry one-liners when you die, most of them variations along the lines of “You’re fired!”:

“Don’t die, or you’re fired!”
“Your mum called. She says you’re fired.”
“When you see St. Peter, tell him you’re fired!”

It’s hill-lay-rious. I love PF: EJ, and I’m curious to play its predecessor.

I borrowed Trauma Center: New Blood from the library recently (Yeah, my library has video games. FTW!) and… man, it’s more fun than I expected. That, and addictive. It’s HARD too, but it really is unique and a blast, and has some great controls.

To comment on the whole “Games are causing kids to be violent!” stuff, there is just this to say:

‘Games don’t make kids violent, neglect, bad parentingand guidance does.’

Edited. Please refrain from shouting. Thank you. – Mitch

I recently got Bioshock. And it’s an absolute masterpiece. Can video games be art? Yes. Bioshock has just proven that to me. The detailed environment, the voice acting, the story, the artwork, it’s all so…brilliant.

And I really wouldn’t have imagined that a company had actually dared to make something so uniqe into a videogame. Being stuck in a utopian experiment gone horribly wrong and having to fight your way through mutants with a wrench. While you to start to think about whether you truly are your own master? It’s just mind-blowing.

The gaming community is hyped up about Bioshock 2. Has anyone gotten a chance to play it?

I have just finished playing Psychonauts (which was on sale for £1/2$ on Steam last week, although I believe the offer has now ended) and it is absolutely fantastic, born from the mind of Tim Schafer (Grim Fandango, Brutal Legend) it plays like a cutesy platformer but is in reality more of a dark comedy.

You play as ‘Raz’ a young boy who sneaks into a government summer camp for training psychic agents known as ‘psychonauts.’ Over the course of the game you develope cool psychic powers such as telekinesis, levitation and pyrokinesis and meet a whole plethora of quirky characters. Please note that by ‘quirky’ I mean absolutely insane…

As a psychonaut you can enter people’s minds and walk around there mental landscapes, fighting their inner demons and curing their pyschosis. There’s a fairly complex plot lots of interesting and well designed levels and great, like really great, humour. Seriously I can get a lot of enjoyment out of just walking around talking to people.

If you get a chance I’d recommend you play this game, although bear in mind that there is some fairly adult humour (although not anything crass, just mature) and it can get a little, ah, creepy, at times.

9/10

I’ve recently been replaying Super Paper Mario.

I had forgotten how awesome that game was…

Is it bad that I completed Batman: Arkham Asylum as quickly as possible just so I could play The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion again? I started a whole new character (again), but hopefully this time she’ll be the one who goes on to complete every quest possible.

Yes that makes you a bad person; Arkham Asylum is fantastic :stuck_out_tongue:

I jest, i jest.

Is it bad that I play the Arkham Asylum challenge levels jsut to see how many times I can make Batman punch mooks in the crotch?

Just got a 360, needing some friends on live :stuck_out_tongue:

my tag is theDMCmeister

What are yours?

Been a little busy in the Wii with Super Smash Bros. Brawl…

Assassin’s Creed 2 was the best game I ever played. The story was great and how accurate the cities are is amazing. I really can’t wait for the third. [spoil]Since at the end of the game they revealed Desmond uses the hidden blade and that modern sword/pole thing. I think the third game he’ll have to learn gun techniques so he’ll have to go in the Animus again for that.[/spoil]

Altair only spoke with an “American accent” because the Animus wasn’t in complete synch. He was really speaking Arabic.

Nintendo’s got a pretty solid Summer/Spring release schedule for the Wii; Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Monster Hunter Tri, Endless Ocean: Blue World.
Lots of excellent titles, I’m not made of money!

After beating Twilight Princess and getting totally stuck on the Ganondorf battle in Ocarina of Time, I’m giving Rebel Assault III another try now.

The menu music is, like, the greatest Star Wars music John Williams never composed, the graphics look great for the most part, but the gameplay could use some fine tuning here and there.
Actually, for the missions where you are on foot, they should have adopted a more Zelda-esque control scheme.

Hey, has anyone heard any new news about Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep? I read it comes out in June (I think), but that’s the only thing new I’ve heard.

I recently got a Nintendo 64 on ebay

Here are the 4 games I got for it:

My favorite is Golden Eye, so fun to run around as James Bond and kill guards. My least favorite is Lego Racers :frowning: [/list]

We got a 360 this weekend and I am lovin’ it! It’s soo nice to be playing Halo again

Just finished the game inFAMOUS and it’s quickly become one of my favourite games. The best thing about it is although I’ve just finished it, I know I’m going to play it again in a few months because this time, instead of doing everything to be evil, I can change and be good!
