I started this thread to continue a discussion that was going on in the Dash
thread.
We all think that Violet’s black hair doesn’t seem natural. Any ideas on how it got to be that
way?
Odd topic I know, but a good one.

I think the creators just wanted her
appearance to go with her personality. She has long black (a color that symbolizes mystery and the unknown) hair
that covers her face, she’s a shy character who doesn’t reveal to much about herself, nor seem all that
confident from the begining thus hiding herself from any and all potential embarasment. The hair is as much of a
“shield” as her powers I guess.
Not really a “how” (leave that to genetics experts)
but a “why”.
You just summed up my reasoning behind it. ![]()
I believe that in movies, it’s
okay to let certain things slide. Sometimes, it’s best to follow design rather than
science.

I still say she dyes it! ![]()
It still seems a bit
strange to me, though…Pixar are very nit-picky about every little detail, so I’m sure they must’ve formulated
some logical reason for Vi’s hair being that colour.
I was just amazed at hoe they even got her LONG HAIR to
look like decent LONG HAIR.
Hair and Long Hair, like fire and water and clothes and humans, are just HARD
to do on a computer, and PIXAR pulled it off beautifully!!

Thanks! I feel the same way about character designs. I just cannot picture her with red or blonde hair! ![]()
Didn’t they?! My first thought when I saw Vi was
" Man I wwish MY hair was that pretty ![]()
My hair looks just like hers, only thicker and not so shiny.
LOL wishes for thinner hair

Yeah, what conditioner does she use to get that beautiful shine? ![]()
Let’s face it. Some people
are just blessed with great hair. Violet is one of the lucky ones. ![]()

Doesn’t Helen get a little
annoyed of Violet’s long hair? I mean, it is kind of rude to be hiding your face at the dinner
table.
And Helen does tuck Violet’s hair behind her ears, though it doesn’t really
seem out of annoyance- she just wants to see her daughter’s face.
And also to boost her confidence. That powerful part
exhibits a lot of synbolism. Violet has been hiding in the shell of self consciousness and insecurity as shown
her hiding behind her hair. Helen putting her hair behind her ear show that Helen wants Violet to believe in
herself and she is showing faith in her daughter. All Violet has to do is believe herself.
Did you know
the animators really wanted Violet’s hair to be cut because her hair was so difficult to animate and simulate,
but the persistant Brad Bird would always insist on keeping her long hair?
Yep. Vi’s hair was definitely an issue, but good ol’ Brad knew it would work out in
the end.

Not only that but
hair that is wet, with wind blowing, jerking her head.
Before Violet, the
animators at Pixar first had the idea of having the idea of long hair for Boo on "Monsters Inc. Of course,
after they found out how difficult it was to animate hair, the gave her pigtails.
All of the hard work they put into Vi’s hair definitely paid off!
Most of the animators at Pixar gave up becuase the hair was such a challenge.
Even though it brought the production to
it’s knees for some time.
