WALL•E Superbowl Spot

Funny you mention that, Heimlich. That was my first impression, too. Buzz was unmistakably voiced by Tim Allen, but Woody…ehh…errm…I dunno. However, I think Tim would be more available than Tom to record for a TV ad.

~~=oP

Yep, I saw it too. I really liked it. I thought it was funny. My dad was cracking up at the end though. Didn’t really get me too excited for the movie, but I found it enjoyable. Especailly Buzz and Woody.

You know since it’s 2008 and Toy Story 3 is coming in 2010, Tim and Tom should have been at least starting recording voice by now, so maybe they just did that quick gag at a recording session for the movie.

It’s awesome! I love that bit right at the end where[spoil] Wall-E tries to wipe away some of the dust.[/spoil] He’s just so cute!

And I agree- Woody didn’t sound one hundred percent like Tom Hanks. I mean, at times the voice was pretty good, but it still sounded a bit…different.[/spoil]

I loved the spot - it just oozed cute. What is funny is that just seconds before it aired, my friend and I were discussing commercials, and I mentioned that there was supposed to be a WALL-E ad. And then there it is.

I don’t know if it had the desired effect, though. While it aired, all the people I was watching the game with were discussing that there was going to be a TS3. I didn’t hear too many people saying that they were wanting to see this one, no matter how much I tried to promote it. At least I know I’ll be seeing it.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that it just might be Tom Hanks doing the commercial. His voice just sounds so distinctive, and unless there is an amazing Tom Hanks impersonator walking around, I think it probably was Tom. His IMDB page lists 4 upcoming movies for him, and TS3 is the only one listed as actually “filming.” (One has been announced, one is in pre-production, and one is in production.) Also, they managed to snag him for one line in the Cars credits, so why not get him for a 30-second ad?

AH! Thank you!! I was waiting for it 'cause that’s the only thing my computer will load from. Sadly I have to go to school in a few minutes, so I’ll watch it later.

The guy who played Woody was so not Tom Hanks!

That was so awesome! WALL•E just can’t stop being cute :3

BEHOLD! My updated sig/avatar in honour of this spot!

Yeah it was great!

Nich sig!

Seriously guys, that must’ve been Tom, he did a cameo in Cars, signed on to do Toy Story 3 and recently talked about how he loves Pixar, why WOULDN’T he do the tv spot?

Also, it’s been ten years, his tone could’ve changed. (I don’t mean the deepness, or style, I mean the way he presents emotion).

Buzz Lightyear: How sure are you? (on a scale of 0 to 100)
Leonarduille: Nice avatar and siggy!
Martin: That’s just what I was thinking. No, it doesn’t sound exactly like Tom Hanks in the Toy Story movies, but it doesn’t sound too different.
I have to agree with Martin; I think his tone changed.

You know what, I just compared the Toy Story trailer, and the WALL-E ad, and it seems Tom is using what I like to call his “calm” voice, which is the complete opposite of his “strong” voice (i.e. “You are a TOY!”) I guess he didn’t use much strength for the commercial, but those lines didn’t require him to SCREAM like in the forementioned line. He did emphasize the word “infinity” just like Tom does and Woody… would (no pun intended).

I found something. Right when the trailer starts, Buzz and Woody are sitting on a couch next to a book shelf, look on the top left hand corner, yes that’s “Anyone Can Cook!” By Auguste Gusteau!!Go check it out, I reccommend the large HD version for better visibility.
Mods- Sorry for double posting… again. I just wanted people to see it.

Great find, Martin! That’s amazing! :astonished:

Indeed.

Thanks for showing that, Leonarduile!

I was watching the commercials, waiting to see if The Dark Knight would have a trailer (it didn’t :frowning: ) but I was pleasently surprised by Wall-e! I wish it’d show more about the story, but I can deffinatly see the angle of marketing they’re using. Pull people in with the cuteness! XD

oh, and for the record… that was Tom Hanks’s voice. I’m sure of it.

I don’t think it’s Tom Hanks doing Woody’s voice, either. But maybe his voice has change since the last movie. I don’t know. I hope he gets his usual Woody voice back before they start recording TS3.

On a different note, WALL•E the Movie has its own YouTube channel, now. They’re a bit slow in putting up videos and a few videos are missing (the Buy ‘n’ Large commercial, for example). Maybe they’ll upload more videos soon.

Here’s something interesting from the movie description on that page:

Joining WALL•E on his fantastic journey across a universe of never-before-imagined visions of the future, is a hilarious cast of characters including a pet cockroach, and a heroic team of malfunctioning misfit robots.

Not sure if that movie summary has been posted anywhere else before, but that last line sure is intriguing.

Really? It may have backfired on Pixar, then. They should have just showed the normal footage with WALL•E playing with the vacuum from Disney’s website. They have to make the “trailer” stand out from other Superbowl commercials, I suppose…

Nice find! I love how Pixar put references in their tv spots for us Pixar fans to find. Heheh.

Yeah, that’s been the description on Walt Dinsey Picture’s homepage and the WALL-E.com website. The mistfit robots we know of now are [spoil]M-O (the cleaning robot and Auto (the auto pilot bot).[/spoil] We know this from the Comic-Con presentation.
Thanks for the YouTube link!

Now that I’ve watched it a couple more times, I 95 percent sure that it is Tom Hanks in a calm voise.

Tom Hanks does not voice Woody in that commercial. 200% sure.
The person who does voice woody sounds enough like Tom Hanks to fool enough people. Many who saw that commercial didn’t even think of who was doing the voices. But there were also alot of people who said “yup that’s not Tom Hanks”. Look around on Google, there were other people not fans of Pixar that said said he wasn’t Tom Hanks. If alot of people say it’s not Tom Hanks, then it’s not him. And if you didn’t notice anything the first time you saw the commercial, then you can’t say anything. Only the people who know Tom Hanks voice would notice the first time. Think about it.
And look at Tom Hanks IMDB page. He has like 3 different movies going on at the same time.

Here’s some real posts on a superbowl forum by 4 different people. Not one said it was Tom Hanks.
“That was a terrible Tom Hanks impersonator”
“Also, pixar movie add was entertaining. Was that the original voice for Woody?”
“That weren’t no Tom Hanks.”
“Tom Hanks? I don’t know, but it definitely sounded like Tim Allen for Buzz…”

If you still think it’s Tom Hanks in that commercial, then yippee. But don’t say we’re wrong.
