What animated films would you like to see Disney tackle?

Perhaps a remake of Poor Little Rich Girl?

I hoped someone wouldn’t think I was crazy.

It would be most gratifying to see any studio tackle Forbidden Planet, so why not Disney? As Disney animator Joshua Meador provided animation for the original film, it would be like coming around again. Supposedly J. Michael Stracynski is working on a re-visioning, but that seems to have an air of development “underworld” about it.

I’m praying for an animated movie set during the American Revolution!

I really wish they would continue with The Snow Queen and King of the Elves… those fairy tales aren’t well known, so it’d be nice to have Disney introduce it. Plus, I want to see their twists in it - some people complain that Disney doesn’t stay all that true to the original stories, which is true (especially if you read the original Grimm fairy tales - what a shock, they’re like horror movies!), but I think that’s what makes it better. For example, the Genie from Aladdin… in the original tale, he had NO personality or feelings, but the Disney version had him as the most hilarious character. Or how Tangled explained why Gothel kept Rapunzel hidden, or took her in the first place… in the original story there’s no reason!

Agh, I’m rambling.

I’d also like to see something with Hispanic heritage, Japanese heritage, or the idea of one being set in the American Revolution, as ellie-jessie-eve pointed out. Would be interesting!

Hm… I wonder if they could expand on the story of Little Red Riding Hood… but then again, people might think of Red Riding Hood or Hoodwinked. Scratch that.
Well, maybe they could try… Rumpelstiltskin? That fairy tale needs a lot of expanding to make sense if you ask me. They could try something inspired by maybe one of the stories in The Rumpelstiltskin Problem by Vivian Vande Velde…?
Or maybe The Seven Ravens… I like that fairy tale. Obviously, Disney wouldn’t keep the part where [spoil]the girl sacrifices a finger as a key to free her brothers[/spoil], but I’m totally okay with that.

Uh, I’m out of ideas for now.

BDD, what do you think of a child friendly version of Frankenstein?

Only if they stay true to the source material, which Disney rarely does. So, no. I really don’t mind it when Disney changes stories, but most people’s idea of Frankenstein is so different from the book already, that I wouldn’t appreciate them straying from it even more.

I guess that makes sense. And now that I think about it, in the middle of the day (as opposed to 11:00 at night) it doesn’t seem possible to have a kid’s movie about Frankenstein that even makes sense.

You could, but I’m sure it wouldn’t be very good.

Well, I think it’d be interesting, just like my earlier idea of a Disney version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde… but the problem would be if they lighten it up too much. Don’t get me wrong, I love Disney for their twists, but…

Well, I think the closest Disney will get to Frankenstein is Lilo & Stitch.

LOL, good point!

I’ve always wondered if Disney could do anything with that Hans Christian Andersen story, The Galoshes of Fortune.

I’ve never heard of that one! What’s it about?

It’s so much to try to sum up! Let’s see. Well, what the story basically is saying (or at least what I got out of it), is that people tend to look at other people and think that that person seems happy or they have it all, I wish I was them. Or that those were the good old days, unlike today, I wish I could go back. But those people who seem like they have it all and have a better life than you, or they seem to be enjoying life more than you, have their emotional scares just like you do. Basically, looks can be deceiving. And also, you don’t know what you got until it’s gone. There are also some fairies in the story. I wonder if Disney could find a movie in the story. I’m still learning about story, and I’m not saying use most of the story. But I could see some potential for some great characters and some moments with heart. I’ll post a link to the story. Tell me what you think.

I want to see Disney do Rumpelstiltskin in cel animation. I’m surprised they haven’t done Thumbelina yet, but every other animated film company has done that, so…

I think they are making Peter and the Starcatchers in 3-D animation, which is weird for a company that already made a Peter Pan movie in 2-D animation.

Toy Story in traditional 2-D animation would be awful.

I’ve only ever heard of one Thumbelina cartoon. :open_mouth:

I mean, there’s also a Barbie movie, but only little girls watch them.

Thumbelina (1992 film), an animated film produced by Golden Films based on the Danish fairy tale
Thumbelina (1994 film), a Warner Bros. animated film directed by Don Bluth, also based on the Andersen tale
“Thumbelina” (Faerie Tale Theatre), an episode of Faerie Tale Theatre
Thumbelina (comics), a mutant super villain in the Marvel Comics universe most well known as a member of the Mutant Liberation Front
Thumbelina: A Magical Story , a Japanese anime TV Series later edited into an eighty minute film
Thumbelina (1978 film), a Japanese anime film produced by Toei Animation
The Adventures of Tom Thumb and Thumbelina, a 2002 animated film directed by Glenn Chaika
Barbie Thumbelina, a 2009 animated film inspired by the fairy tale with Barbie as the lead role

The only one I knew of from childhood was “Thumbelina: A Magical Story,” but I learned about the others later on. I saw the film, not the TV series. It was my first introduction to anime…I didn’t watch any other anime till I discovered Pokemon in 2999.

I would also like to see Disney tackle Hawaiatha, as a full-length feature film.

Actually, Walt Disney did want to make a Hiawatha feature film. However, it was never put into production.

Seeing Tarzan and being blown away by the amazing animation on the gorillas I would really like to see Disney make a Donkey Kong movie.

Whaaaat! The last movie based around that game wasn’t even technically a movie! But then, they did have a TV show that Nelvana made, but… eh. And I doubt Disney does films based on games.

Excuse me being a fangirl…

I would like to see that! It is odd to imagine Disney doing an animated film based on a video game. I would love it though.
