What did you want to be when you were a kid?/Your occupation

So when we were all kids, we had a dream job. Some kids wanted to be an astronaut, others wanted to be a world leader. What was your dream job? You could also talk about your occupation if you are of legal working age in your area.

When I was about five, I was obsessed with sea life, so I thought I would be a marine biologist. At seven, I thought I would be a flight attendent. At ten, I considered social security. Right now, I’m stuck between a health career or becoming a restauranteur.

ASTROLOGER! Now something to do with computers.

When I was young, I wanted to be a rockstar singer. That changed a bit as I got older. Then I wanted to be a professional performer (actor or singer). As a backup, I would want to be a teacher.

I wanted to be multiple things. First a teacher. Then a vet, an astronaut and a firefighter. Now I’m on the road to becoming an animator.

I had a few different ones when I was little. Baseball player, lacrosse player, and astronomer. At around 10, I became dead-set on becoming a lawyer. That changed around junior year of high school, when I started to get into film. I originally wanted to do live-action, but now I really want to be story artist. My main goal is to become a writer-director though.

I’ve always wanted to be in the movie/ television business. I remember being like 5 and thinking “That’s what I’m gonna do”. It’s still what I want to do.

I was quite a boring child. I loved maths and so for a while wanted to become an accountant, then for some reason wanted to be a lawyer (though a couple of weeks’ work experience changed my mind about that ) and also an author. But for a couple of years now I’ve been a lot more keen on the clinical psychology route.

I remember when I was primary-school age, my parents used to take me to the post-office after school to collect the mail. They even sat me on one of the bikes and took pictures. :stuck_out_tongue: I think I must have wanted to be a postman then (my parents still tease me about it). My brother wanted to be a fireman, if I’m not mistaken. At one point, one of us wanted to be a policeman, I forgot who.

When we got over becoming civil servants, I considered becoming a marine biologist (cos’ I was good at biology, and I always loved the sea. Still do). Then there was the ‘CSI phase’ where I wanted to be a forensic scientist. Whereupon I realise, I’d be cooped upon in a lab most of the time inspecting corpses, without the glamorous ‘arresting the suspects’ aspect so often popularised in TV shows (It’s a common misconception that crime-scene lab rats get a gun and participate in arrests. That doesn’t happen in real-life, people).

Right now, I’m considering becoming an animator, or a journalist working for a film magazine (preferably), failing which, a newspaper in the Entertainment section.

lizardgirl: If I wasn’t able to study animation, I would be studying psychology right now. I find human mind really intriguing.

Wow! Hannah! Same here too! But end up with Cost Engineering. :frowning:

When i was about 8 i know i wanted to design video games, then in high school i just wanted to play in a band (i still would quite like that life style), but then i saw monsters inc and everything changed

When I was young, I think i wanted to be a pirate of some sort. I can remember all the way back in year 2 (Or second grade) I went into school dressed up as a pirate, sword and all! The only life for me when young was sailing the seven seas.

Now that i’ve grown up a little bit more, the only job I really have any interesting in doing is writing comic books. It’s the only thing i’ve been interested in since I left school all those years ago.

I’ve wanted to be a game designer most of my life (as in until I saw Up the first few times) so luckily Pixar isn’t too far from what I originally wanted! XD

Actually I’ve been undecided about my career pretty much my whole life. I am still iffy but I want to become an artist of some sort (at pixar  ). My indecisiveness is really killing me especially since I need to get together a portfolio ASAP while others are perfecting mine, I haven’t even started one.

when i was younger, i always wanted to do something that had to do with celebrities whether it be acting or something behind the scenes like a personal stylist. right now I’m working on my current dream, which is to become a film producer

When I was younger, I wanted to be a cartoonist (as in, drawing comic strips). More recently I’ve been looking towards being an animator or storyboard artist. And, since I’m too young, I don’t have a job. I guess my mindset hasn’t really changed over the years.

When I was a kid, my sister Kathryn and I were left to our own devices durring the summer. There weren’t any other kids in the neighborhood, so she and I would invent games or build forts with the couch cussions.

One day we found these heavy black metal cases with handles on them in a closet. They were so massively heavy we had to drag them out, across the carpet into the living room. Inside the cases were our parents’ typewriters, still in proper order.

That summer I wrote ten short stories that all began “It was a dark and stormy night”. We drew pictures for the stories, and stapled them into volumes, or three hole punched them and tied them with string. I liked that very much. Thats when I knew I wanted to tell stories, but it wasn’t untill I watched a An American Tail that I knew exactly how I wanted to tell stories.

In kindergarden, I sang Somewhere Out There, from An American Tail, in the school tallent show. It was my first time singing on stage, and as soon as I got a taste of applause, I wanted more.

Those were my first inspirations to become a singer songwriter.

Haha, that was one of my ambitions too. My parents told me “cartoonists don’t earn a lot of money” and “to pick another job”, but they sent me for art classes anyway and took me to see a famous local cartoonist (don’t think many folks outside M’sia know him), so I’m grateful they entertained my fancies, if only temporarily.

TDIT: C’mon! Which Malaysian doesn’t know him? LOL. Looking forward of his cartoons everyday!

When I was younger I always wanted to be in transportation. When I was really young, I wanted to be a bus driver. :stuck_out_tongue:. Then, as time progressed, I wanted to be a pilot. But, recently, I’ve realised that I can’t navigate for nuts, and I have really bad bearings (not to mention being four-eyed).

So now I want to be a journalist slash media presenter. Too bad I’m too shy, can’t speak for nuts and am pretty dyslexic too.
