I was entertaining either a new laptop (cos’ my three-year-old 2006 Macbook Pro can’t handle the newer edition of Maya, or the newer games with Windows XP as boot camp), a PSP (cos’ I always has to ask my bro to download the Pixar games I want onto his machine, so I considered getting my own), or a PS3 (to play MGS4, Uncharted, and Blu-Rays).
In the end, I decided to ask my parents for a new laptop, since I figured I could still leech of my bro for his PSP and that I could ask for a Blu-Ray drive to be included on the laptop instead of using the PS3. So we went down to SITEX last weekend (which is like an annual tech fair, sort of like Cyber Monday in Singapore). I bought a Dell Studio 15 with Full 1080p HD resolution and a Blu-Ray/DVD combo drive, 4 GB Ram, 500 GB Capacity. And it comes with Windows 7!
I didn’t go with another Mac this time cos they still don’t have Full HD resolution, a HDMI port or a Blu-Ray drive, and are seriously overpriced. I was also considering the XPS 16 with its 1 GB Graphics Card, and 16-inch screen, but I’d have to fork out a few hundred more, so I went with the cheaper Studio line. It’s a lime-green colour (cos black and white is too predictable), and it looks pretty fat and bulky, but specs-wise, it’s pretty top-notch.
I’m so happy and thankful (my parents said this is the second and last laptop they’re getting for me, next one’s from your own dough! ), it’s a preorder since Dell does online orders, so I’ll only receive it in a few days time, latest by December 18. But I can’t wait, it’s gonna be sweet!
The only other gift I think I’ll get is a mousepad, since I never had one for three years now (I purchased the Razer Krait beginning this year, and it’s a pity I can’t use it on glass surfaces! ). Probably make it Pixar/movie-related.
Sally Johnson: I second LightningandDoc, The Art of Cars is just seriously awesome, I always borrow a copy of it from the public libraries every time I return to Singapore!
