What do your family and friends think?

My dad hates Disney, and I don’t think anyone else cares about either in my house.

Virginia, how could your dad hate Disney? :astonished:

Most of my friends (and everyone I’ve met and talked about it with, for that matter) pretty much unanimously agree that Pixar is super awesome. I’ve never had any trouble with anyone about my fandom.

As for my family, I think I’ve forced them to watch every Pixar film with me, and I’m pretty sure I’ve successfully made converts out of them! My dad’s favorite is WALL-E, and my mom just loves Up. My brother is the youngest, he’s 13, but strangely he’s probably the least enthusiastic fan out of all of us. 8D

Oh, I am well known for my fandom  Everyone at my grade school and my grade in high school knows about it. It’s only a 90 kid grade, but still. My friends have no problem with it. They’re neutral. I’m really lucky to have my best friend be a Disney fanatic like me, so we’re little nerds together about it  But she’s not very Pixar-oriented, though she likes them alright. But no one has ever had a problem with it, most times people think it’s kinda neat to be into it! I love being a megafan though, it makes life interesting. I swear half the stuff that comes out of my mouth is either a Disney or Pixar quote XD

He says they are Communists. :unamused: He basically ruined my life by saying Beauty and the Beast is Feminist, forcing me to read into that. I can’t enjoy that movie in the same way ever again. :frowning:

Am I missing something? How is B&tB feminist? And Disney is anything but Communist. The company flurishes in our Capitalistic society, making lots of bank.

In Beauty and the Beast Belle doesn’t want to marry Gaston mainly for two reasons: he’s abusive and he wants her to stay in the kitchen. I’m not really sure whether or not it’s feminist but if it is I don’t really care, besides I don’t really see feminism as a bad thing or why some see it that way (no offense to anyone who does obviously).

My sisters and close friends are very aware of it. They are mostly fine, but they just consider me quite the geek.

Well, my dad hates the Disney company. I guess he says they’re Communist because of the “liberal” messages in the movies. Personally, it doesn’t bother me. I just like them because they’re good. shrugs

Really? I’ve come to find that Disney, especially the animated movies, are probably some of the more conservative major film studios left in Hollywood. And why would they be Communist? Giving the government that much power would take away power from corporations…you know, them. Sorry, I just find that funny since most people who hate Disney hate it because of its status as an “evil” major corporation and think it encourages consumerism.

Well, you’d have to meet my dad. He’s just extremely disagreeable, and sometimes I think he only says these things to make me mad. It’s very frustrating. I guess he’s just crazy.

Oh this is a great place to vent my frustration…

Home:
My mum and stepdad just don’t get it. They know I’m Pixar nuts, and they usually bear it, but I did get told, albiet not nastily, to “be into something normal for an 18 year old”. They’re not really keen on Pixar movies, as far as they can tell, although my mum did take me to see a lot of their earlier films repeatedly and bought us the VHS.
My sister is a bit more tolerant. She isn’t Pixar nuts but she’ll happily sit and watch most of the films. She’s actually played quite a few Pixar scores in her school band, and she generally seems to like anything she’s played  . She really likes Monsters, Inc. and the Toy Story series, but she too gets fed up with my constant nattering. Other family members; my dad watched Cars just to watch Jeremy Clarkson’s cameo, but isn’t bothered otherwise. My aunt likes Pixar and animation, and she actually defended WALL-E when my grandparents said it was “stupid”, and I don’t think I need to express my grandparents views 8D

Real World:
If anyone talks about anything Pixar related, I’m immediately talking! Otherwise, people don’t know, or don’t need to know, unless they bring it up in the first place. But then it’s always bought up so most people know anyway. Some people have taken the mickey, but most are quite tolerant and like Pixar films, although never to my extent! Same goes for my collegues at work. I got into a big conversation about Pixar the other day with a cinema usher, and when I’m at work and little kids have Cars/Toy Story/other Pixar merch on them, I smile and go “oh that film was great!” which often results into a little convo with the child/parent, which is nice

I know! I do this all the time. I see beach towels a lot now with Pixar characters on them, and I just stand there smiling and inwardly cheering for them  My little cousin is a Cars fanatic, so that’s pretty much where I get all of my real life Pixarian conversation. Just me and my five year old cousin  It’s fun though, we were “driving backwards” in the backyard before like Mater

Some guy came in with a ton of Pixar merch in his car…like, Toy Story figurines, a WALL-E figurine, Cars window covers, Finding Nemo car covers…everything! It was awesome! Unfortunatly could only talk for like 10 seconds!
But the best convo I had was just after christmas last year, and I had found the Pixar calender for this year. The man selling them was maybe…60? He had grandchildren though and he had taken them to see all of the films, and we had this awesome 15 minute conversation whilst he wasn’t selling anything. The usual natter. A Bug’s Life was his favourite, and I got over excited because nobody ever says that one 8D. Sure hope he’s flogging them this year.

Oh dear! Liberal doesn’t mean communism! Those are two completely seperate things.

I guess I kinda see what he means by B&tB being feminist from EVAVoiceMatch posted.

Heheh, at my church mission trip this year one of the girls had Toy Story sheets we all admired, and brought Tangled, Disney Princess and Pixar coloring books and gave us pages from them (I got an EVE sticker I put in my journal!) and we fought over Disney Princesses.

BTW, none of us were under 15.

My 9 year old cousin tries her best to watch Pixar with me 8D or really any animation
My sister and other cousin are sorta skeptical, I think, and I’m not sure about my Mamaw. My aunt really is clueless  She probably couldn’t differentiate between Dreamworks and Pixar.

You go on mission trips too? Sweet, so do I.

Well, let me explain my dad’s viewpoint. It is total BS, but keep in mind Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie and I do not agree with this idea. My dad says that it is Feminist and crazy because Gaston is big and manly, and he’s the only manly character in the movie. He says the Beast is stupid, ugly(naw, really? Wow, Dad, good observation) and as a human too skinny and un-masculine.

And that’s why he says it’s Feminist. Now, the Beast as a human(or, Adam) is skinny and unattractive. I agree. But I still don’t want the movie to be Feminist. :frowning:

Well pretty much my whole family know’s i love pixar. But the only thing is that, half of my family thinks i’m crazy and to ald to be loving pixar, pixar movies and any animated and cartoon for that matter. I have seen the looks on some family memebers faces, and you can tell right away what there thinking. Ok i’ll leave it at that.

My family all likes Pixar. I’m the biggest nut, though. :stuck_out_tongue: I do most of my fandom here, but I sometimes take the interesting news and talk with my brother about it.
And my friends, they usually just say stuff like “Oh, I saw those movies! They’re cute.”
But I do have some awesome Pixar related moments with them sometimes.
