Fett101 - I’m terribly sorry about your cat. He certainly lived a long and healthy life, though, and I’m glad that he didn’t suffer upon his passing. You took great care of the handsome devil.
queen_of_painting - Both of your cats are very pretty! I love their names. (heheh)
lizardgirl - What a beautiful cat! Man, everyone has a feline but me.
This here is Jack Aubrey. Yes, he was named after the title character in the Master and Commander series. (My mom is a great fan of the novels, so it was only inevitable that at least one of our rats would adorn a cognomen mirroring that of one of the characters in the books.) Aubrey is a survivor, in that a neighbor of ours bought him for his son’s snake. Thankfully, the snake wasn’t hungry at the time, and the rat, alone in his own cage one night, escaped into our neighbor’s garage. Amazingly, the rascal survived for an entire week on cat food… while evading the cats at the same time. Our neighbor finally captured him and asked us if we wanted him, as he knew that we are great animal lovers and that we wouldn’t want to see the escapee get eaten. (This neighbor of ours is a huge animal lover himself, and even though he said that he doesn’t care about buying feeder rats, he can’t fool us. )
A few months later, Jack is now as pampered as anything and is, to date, the most playful rat we’ve ever met. He’ll literally roll over onto his back so as we may tickle his stomach.
The first photograph depicts Jack when he was about, oh, two months old, perhaps. We first acquired him at this age. The second picture is one of Jack when he was a little older – three or four months, maybe. The last image shows the rascal as he is now, which is, I suppose, six months of age.
Aubrey is rat number eleven (11)!! I finally passed the tenth mark! (I was aiming to own at least ten rats in my life time, so I achieved my goal!)
For anyone who is wondering, Kirby, my last rat, passed away in November of last year. It took me approximately two months to get over his death, which is unusual, as I hardly cry over anything at all. I was pretty fond of that particular rat. Heh.
