Haha, the last time I put books on hold, I wasn’t sure what the waiting limit was and when I went to get them, they had already put them back on the shelves. Our library is stupid, anyway. They don’t file things very well. One time they said that all the books were in, but only one of them was out on the shelf!
It all really depends on the librarian, too. Half of them are old ladies who don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, no matter how many times you walk into the library saying, “You know, the books I’ve requested months ago… How to Train Your Dragon…? Cressida Cowell…?” they still stare at you with this stupid face like they don’t know what the heck you’re saying.
Oh yeah, sorry. I was speaking in Dragonese. No wonder you couldn’t understand me…!
I had that exact experience two weeks ago! I met a friendly librarian at the Sydney City library who I asked for a book request… I wanted the third book ‘The Rescue’ from the Guardians of Ga’Hoole series (cos’ I know the film will be based on the first three books) and the friendly lady (she was middle-aged) apologised as she didn’t have any ‘pink forms’ (the ones where we write on for book request purchases). She sent me upstairs to the head librarian, but not before warning me she was a little… ‘you know’.
So I went up, and it was this silver-haired woman who was so geriatric, she looked like she passed retirement age decades ago. If she was kind, I wouldn’t mind the age factor so much, but she was incredibly cranky and slow, and she was not content with just giving me the forms, she wanted to search them up to see it if it was any other branch to be sure. This was after I told her there was none in the Sydney network. Then she looked up the rest of the books in the series in other libraries in Australia, and even though I was not interested in inter-library loans or the other books at the moment, I was too nervous of interrupting her (cos’ she had an eternal frown and that ‘snooty’ look about her) and had to sit politely for a quarter hour shaking my leg while she wrote every title down (there’s 15 altogether!) on a notepad at the speed of a Brontosaurus.
Sorry, that was a rant. To paraphrase Gru, “Why are you so… old?”
Of course, not all oldies are baddies, but this woman really got on my nerves and she achieved nothing with my encounter compared to the friendlier one downstairs, who explained to me how to request inter-library loans myself and even purchase copies online cheaper than the ones on Amazon. And then she said “Hey, isn’t it that owl movie that’s coming out? I saw the trailer before I watched Toy Story 3 in the U.S.” and that just made my day.
…
So at the moment, I’m just thinking of how to plan my Spring Break, which has officially started. I got lotsa homework to do, a paintball session on Sunday, and a couple of movie outings planned with friends and solo (I got several vouchers to burn). And of course, plenty of catching-up to do fanworks-wise.
Right now I’m hoping the weekend goes well. My brother’s going away for the weekend, and I’m hoping I can get some new shoes this weekend and maybe go see TS3 for Labor Day.
I’ve been trying to repair my old, poor, corrupted iPod for four years now, and even to this day can’t get it to work.
The computer used to actually recognize it. Now it pretends like it’s not there, so I can’t go in and reformat the disk itself, which is probably what should be done to it.
I’m kinda sad today, as I was supposed to go to church, which I love, but I’m feeling sick so I have to stay home. I hope it’s just my allergies though, and that I’m not really sick.
