Read BRIT Award nominations (for those who don’t know, it’s basically the biggest music award in the UK). Some of it was actually quite surprising. Lana Del Rey for International Female Solo !
Being random and listening to “Wannabe” right now.
Thanks for the info! And I have no idea what Robopocalybse is, but it sounds like it’d scare me.
Nope, I live in the part of California that is 10 times better than Southern California (aka the land where they steal our water). I’m from Northern California, not far from lovely San Francisco.
But never the less, I still want to see the movie. Thanks for sharing that tidbit from Ryan Gosling. That’s amazing how we actually got to meet who he was portraying! Pressure is on! ![]()
It’s an adaptation of novel about a cybernetic Armageddon.
They’ve cast Chris Hemsworth, Anne Hathaway and Ben Whishaw (Lots of "H"s and "W"s there, uh?
)
EJE: Ah, I think you’ll love that movie. It’s a nice recreation of that time period, although some parts were quite goofy and predictable. Sean Penn was excellent, though, as the real-life Mickey Cohen.
I went to San Fran during my family’s US trip back in '05. I bought one of those funny “Alcatraz Triathlon” T-shirts (it looked something like the below picture from eBay), although we sadly never got to visit The Rock. We did go to Lombard Street, though!
Sadly, TDIT’s mum threw his beloved Alcatraz Triathlon shirt away many years ago.
SoA: Okay, Thor and Catwoman in the same movie, I’m there!
…
Just got back from the graveyard shift. Thinking of watching a local police procedural before hitting the sack.
Watching The Lovely Bones.
I’m watching ParaNorman.
That’s the last way I’d want to world to end! But I will see it because of Mr. Hemsworth.
I saw this this weekend as well!
Haha, reminds me of the “Stonehenge Rocks” shirt I got at Stonehenge! I haven’t been to Alcatraz either, and I’ve lived here my whole life!
So today had ups and downs. I went Ice Skating (at the rink owned by Peanuts cartoonist Charles Schulz, where he’d draw his comic strips) and I went shopping. That was awesome!
But I was driving home on the freeway, and I got rear ended. It defintely wasn’t my fault. But I played it cool, and didn’t loose my head. No one was hurt majorly, thank the Gods. My car is fine and is running, but the woman who hit me, her car was smashed and smoking.
I have a sore neck and head now, because of whiplash. I’m just thankful my car is fine, but i’m worried about insurance. She admitted to me it was her fault, but i don’t know what she told the Police Officer. So we’ll see what happens.
Made a new thread in off topic. It is called: Nail Polish!
I’m really sorry to hear about your car accident, EJE. I hope everything’s going okay, but it’s nice to hear you had some fun today too!
Many thanks! I’m not trying to stress out too much about it, it’s out of my hands. I shouldn’t worry about something until it happens, I guess. But being a poor college student, how can I not?
It could be worse, my car could of been totaled and I could of got more than whiplash. So, I guess you’re right, look on the bright side. I did overall have fun today!
Oh dear, I’m sorry to hear about your accident, EJE. Thank goodness nobody was hurt majorly.
I’ve never been involved in an accident, but I’m a worse driver than my brother because I spend less hours on the road than him (and my sister’s even more terrible, although she’s picking it up). Ironically, I’m a huge racing videogame nut. I suppose I subconsciously apply my experience driving virtual cars recklessly to real-life, although I make every effort to do otherwise! And my brother has already got into his first accident, it was a minor thing, he scraped someone’s unoccupied car while reversing into a lot. ![]()

Kinda had a bad day at the office. I had a lot of problems with laying out my page and I don’t think my supervisor was very happy with my performance (I let a lot of supposed errors slip through, although some of them I didn’t even know they were mistakes in his eyes). The thing about sub-editing is sometimes there are subjective grey areas and you gotta make a judgment call. But I must admit, I wasn’t at my A-Game today. He even told me to hurry up at one point, and he didn’t bid anyone goodbye when he left the office. And on top of that, we offstoned late by half an hour for the third consecutive day. ![]()
Hopefully tomorrow will be easier. It’s quite a thankless role, cos’ at the end of the day (as my supe would say), the reader’s not gonna care who made the mistake - everybody (ie the paper) must look good tomorrow.
Disney decided to pull the plug on The Little Mermaid 3D re-release today.
Watching Despicable Me
I was watching Millions.
Sorry to hear about the accident, EJE.
Thank you for the concern everyone! It means a lot. I went to the doctor’s today. I was given medicine to ease the swelling from the whiplash, and I have to do neck exercises and ice my head often. If I keep hurting after two weeks, then I’ll have to do physical therapy. But my doctor said not to worry about it bc I’m young, I should recover. But I’ll have the effects for a week!
And my car looks fine on the outside, but it still needs to go to a shop. So I’m going to get a rent-a-car for this week. Hopefully the woman told the truth on the police report, so I won’t have to pay for any of this!
Yeah, accidents are scary! This wasn’t my fault, but a couple months ago I was in a fender bender that was my fault! Luckily no one was hurt and the cars had no scratches, so we didn’t even have to exchange numbers.
TDIT: I’m sorry that you had one of those days! Hopefully tomorrow will be better, we all have our off days.
I hope you feel better E-J-E.
@TDIT.
Newspaper reporter Eh.
Ooohhh…sorry 'bout the accident EJE. ![]()
We are watching Hotel Transylvania (aka loosing our time)
EJE: Get well soon! I also hope you don’t have to pay for it (you said you were worried about insurance - do you have it?). Thanks for the well-wish too!
S330: Well, technically, I’m a sub-editor, although I’m hired as a “journalist”. I do write articles for my paper, but I don’t get paid for them, and it’s outside office hours. What about it, though? Was that an ambivalent “Eh”, or an interested “Eh”, or…?
SoA: I know you mentioned you didn’t really like it that much, but I must say it’s one of my favourite films of the year. But yeah, even I felt the slapstick moments were too over-the-top at times.
…
Oh boy, today was even worse than yesterday! I had the hardest page to lay out in my experience so far, it was a real doozy cos’ a paid ad sat in the bottom right corner so I ended up having to do b*stard columns (ie irregular columns) for some of my stories. On top of that, the copytaster (a reporter who doesn’t actually go “on the beat”, but takes stories from wired agencies and edits them) kept changing the stories, and she was being very stubborn about disregarding some of the rules that the consulting editor has told us to follow. I ended up spending almost the entire day on her page alone and walking back and forth between my supervisor - the chief sub-editor - and her; getting “shot” at as the messenger!
Finally, things came to a head and she confronted my supervisor and they had a row about the page (this is not her first time, she’s takes things personally and is defensive whenever we tell her that something should be changed). When the dust settled, I “let go” the page as my supervisor intended, since we are following the Big Boss’ (my supervisor’s nickname for the consulting editor, who’s higher up the food chain than “Boss”, the editor) instructions.
Not cool, man. Not cool! ![]()
I’m sorry, usually I don’t go on rants and take things in my stride, but it gets exhausting having to grow a thick skin and talk to reporters when they are very reluctant about their works being changed or having to do extra research, even if it’s for the better. If it’s any consolation, my supervisor’s mood improved towards offstone and he bid everyone (including me) good night.
Only two more days to the weekend, I can’t wait! Plus, tomorrow’s my favourite day of the week next to Thursday, which is a reporter’s “Friday” (we always work one day ahead of everyone else). This is because the main broadsheet has two of my favourite sections on that day: the Movies section (one day before movies premiere on Thursday), and the Tech section (I’m a gadget geek).
