What's on your mind? (Status Updates)

I feel bad admitting this, but I wouldn’t exactly call myself a Pixar fan exclusively. I just like a lot of movies, and I happen to like a lot of Pixar movies. I also like a lot of Dreamworks movies. I don’t really like labelling movies into categories like that and judging them because of it. I just like movies individudally. I get kind of sick of the Pixar vs. Dreamworks thing.

I didn’t really like HTTYD. It wasn’t a bad movie, it was just different than I expected.

There’s always a lot of people arguing on youtube over Peter Gabriel vs. Phil Collins for Genesis. It’s like on every song of theirs I listen to on there. 8D I like them both, so I don’t really care. They always complain about how Genesis changed to pop after Phil Collins took over, and how all of the creativity left with Peter Gabriel. It is true that they got into pop in the 80s, but Peter Gabriel did solo songs in the 80s after Genesis that were popish too, so why are they complaining? 8D

Did a film summary for my Italian 1 class (which I’ll do a brief little review of in a different thread) and did pretty well on it!

I can feel related to that, Amy. I may seem like a Pixar fan, but anyone who knows me, is aware that what I really love is films in general. It just happens that you can’t be a real film lover if you fail to recognize Pixar’s genius.

I hope you’re feeling better, Bonanna.

Don’t feel bad about not being an exclusive Pixar fan. I think that no one on this site is a Pixar fan exclusively. Everyone seems to have other animated films they like more than some Pixar films. And there certainly isn’t anything wrong with that!

If you don’t mind me asking, how was HTTYD different than expected? Did you read the books before hand, or just had it pictured differently?

I am a bit. Also I like your signature! Based on the For Dummies series of books am I correct?

S330: Great, best of luck!

LQstudiesPixar: Whoever told you or gave you the impression you can’t like Shrek and Shrek 2? If they are film critics, half of them don’t know good movies (the other half are dead). :stuck_out_tongue: If they are your friends, haters gonna hate!

Yes, yes you must see KFP2 and HTTYD! And bring the tissues, cos’ your eyes are gonna sweat like a thunderstorm!

Leirin: I’m actually in a similar predicament! There’s a collector’s edition of a videogame I love that’s on Amazon. One seller is offering it for half the price of the other ($75 to $150), and there’s only 2 left. Thing is, the first seller has only 5 positive reviews, while the other has like 10,000-ish. I want it mint and new, and I don’t want to be ripped off. $150 is pretty expensive for a collector’s edition videogame, and I already own a used copy of it. The only thing I want to get is the Art Of book and soundtrack, and maybe the inside cover design. I could buy so many other things with that $150!

EJE: I think it’s the same person, Chris Sanders. I’m not sure if he brought his whole team over from Disney, haha. I know character designer Nicolas Marlet has worked on a lot of Dreamworks films, though! His art pops up a lot in their films, like in HTTYD’s Dragon book and KFP2’s dream sequence and drawings of Po.

SoA: I’m glad that other studios are starting to get better at the game!

theoutsider1983: I think people have a natural tendency to rubberneck. It’s why bloodsports like MMA and wrestling are all the rage, or action is one of the popular film genres. Ther’e something primal and universal about two people engaged in mortal combat. Personally, I don’t like looking at the real thing too, along with other unsavoury videos like accidents, etc (unless they’re funny and no one gets hurt, like America’s Funniest Home Videos or Just For Laughs).

And is this during break? If it isn’t, they shouldn’t be skiving! 8D

Amy43: Ain’t no shame in being a polygamist when it comes to films, we ain’t judging you! Also, with regards to HTTYD, if you were referring to the books, I can understand how they are totally different (Toothless, for example, is small in the books, Astrid is known as Kamikaze, etc). They managed to keep Stoick and Gobber intact, though!

Baliboi: Congratulations!

Thinking about my goal-setting counselling with my supervisor tomorrow. I’m halfway done through writing the list of things I need to improve on and my targets for the next financial year. I’ve sat through performance appraisals last year, but this will be the first time I’ll be setting targets and KPIs, so I’m very nervous!

Also, my brother is coming into town on Saturday, and I haven’t cleaned up the hosue. And I really want to go to Bronycon this year, but my supervisor has taken up the day before the first day of the convention for his leave. And knowing how long it takes to fly to America, not to mention the jet lag and queueing up for registration, I think I might miss the first day of the three-day event, which would be an utter waste for the expensive air ticket! :frowning:

Watching To Rome With Love.

I travelled to Rotorua. Today we are going to go to Goat Island.  But I think there is no goats there. :unamused:

Gradually crawling out of bed… So tired. :~o

By team, I meant Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois. They both directed Lilo and Stitch and HTTYD.

Exactly. A directorial duo is often called a team, even if the rest of the crew has changed.

I spent the evening at church helping a lady watch 3 preschoolers and 2 toddlers. I am exhausted now. 8D

I haven’t read the books, I just thought the movie itself was different than I thought.

Quite strangely im thinking back to an old show called My Life as a Teenage Robot.
A bit scary. Ive tried avoiding that show.
It’s not that i dont like it. Actually i kinda do (robots, epic battles between good and evil. What sci-fi nerd can’t resist that?) I just think it’s a small tad on the girly side is where the conflict is.

I remember that show. Wasn’t it done by the same production company who worked on Fairly OddParents?

Facing a long time at the bank.

PixarTeo: I visited Rotorua when I was a kid! I even went to Christchurch the year before, barely a few days before the earthquake struck. Man, that was scary!

EJE: Oop, my bad!

SoA: Mea culpa!

Amy43: Ah, I see. You should check the books when you have the chance! You can probably finish each within an hour or two, they’re really silly and delighhful reads, and fun to compare with the movie adaptation!

S330: Oh, I heard about that TV show, I’ve been pretty curious after seeing some fanart of it. What exactly do you mean by being “on the girly side where the conflict” is? Do you mean, like, most of the conflicts are emotionally-driven as opposed to “manly” disputes which involves physical fights, etc.? Just curious about your definition.

Just sat with an hour-long counselling session with my supervisor. He told me what areas I had to improve on and he wants me to revise my targets list. Also learnt a few nuggets of info about the company and the job. Very informative, although I was exhausted at the end because it came after a long day and an early offstone!

Looking forward to the weekend. I’ll be seeing a screening of the first full-length movie to be filmed in Singapore tomorrow (At Wit’s End) and my brother is flying in on Saturday. I also plan to get Motorstorm Apocalypse and Driver: San Francisco (as well as continue my hunt for a copy of Disney Universe)!

Ah that is cool.^^ I bet it would be scary.
When we went to Rotorua we went to the volcanic park and Paradise Valley. I love Paradise Valley.

I don’t remember. May take some research.

Well the show is about a teenage robotic girl. I remember talking about it with one of my co-authors once and he said that it was a little bit more of a girl’s show. After hearing that I probably kind of re-thought it (though interestingly, my observation indicates that apparently more guys like the show than girls do. ).

Hope you find it!

Yesterday I just finished watching the anime show Lucky Star. It was really funny!
