What's on your mind? (Status Updates)

But how does it work on a narrative level when people are having a discussion? Why should I be on the edge of my seat when people are talking about the rules of inception or something along those lines? There’s no action going on… no suspense… It’s overused, in my opinion.

The two times I watched this film, I felt like the score was overpowering. If I notice a score during a movie for the wrong reasons, that’s not a good sign. It only complemented the scenes when there was actual tension, and that’s it. Otherwise, it should have been toned down or not used at all. I don’t really know how else to explain how I felt. Imagine someone putting a heaping tablespoon of cayenne pepper in your delicious burrito; some spice can be quite nice and exciting, but too much takes away from the flavor of the food itself. My metaphors are stupid, haha.

Russell bobblehead.

Because there’s a thematic coherence between the music and what they are talking about, by using the leitmotiv resource. And they also keep using the score in EVERY scene because of the oniric nature of the story.

Music is not only there on action or suspense scenes.

That’s true, and one of the reasons I loved it. Now we’re entering the terrain of the tastes, which is pretty deep.

I respect you position toward it.

PS: I’m sorry if my poor English suppresses the validnesses of my arguments.

I like your metaphors, Q. And even though I don’t necessarily agree, I think you made your point very well. Don’t let your limitations keep you from speaking your mind. I’ve talked to music students about my feelings on folks like Giacchino and Elfman and even they were baffled about the kinds of things I was saying because they had never thought of them that way before. Knowing the terms helps, but being able to communicate your feelings concisely is more essential

Just look at Armond White over at NYP. He peppers his reviews with tons of references and technical terms and would actually be able to make good arguments because of his in-depth knowledge. But as my friend stated, with his use of esoteric terms and obscure cinematic knowledge he obscures rather than elucidates. I mean who does “I feel that WALL-E lacks the roccoco elements of the later works of Goddard” really help other than pretentious film majors?

He never said that by the way. It’s just the kind of thing he would say.

What is this?! I want one.

There’s more info here.

I want one too! haha, Lasseter-san! So neat .

I’m considering getting some composing software and teaching myself how to write music.

Don’t know if I’m going to go through with it though. I’m very nervous about the whole thing.

^ That’s really awesome! I admire people who know how to compose their own music.

If you’re interested, there’s a torrent I found that I’ll have downloaded by tomorrow morning. I’d like to purchase the DVD, but I don’t own a region-free DVD player yet (yet–we’ll see what happens in the summer) and I believe shipping from amazon.co.jp is ridiculously high. Last time I checked it was $30. :frowning:

I think about having children constantly. I can’t wait to finally be married someday and have children of my own. <3

I already have most of their names picked out, too. xD

And call me crazy… but even though I said for years I never wanted to… recently I think I’m really, really sold on the idea of having twins at some point. A boy and a girl. (Even though I could never control that, I can still pray for it!)

I know what you’re thinking. No, I will not name them Ruffnut and Tuffnut. xD But I could very well nickname them Ruff and Tuff if I wanted to. :stuck_out_tongue:

little chef

^ Thanks to the wonders of science you could choose that. They now have such a thing called gender assignment that can make it possible to choose which gender your future baby will be.

Where you stand on that morally is another issue.

I’m at my parents’ house in the first time in months. And their dog finally likes me again. I don’t know why she hated me before.

That’s so sweet! I have names picked out too

I’m getting ready to go to youth group, we’re going out to dinner, I can’t wait.

The Ghibli Museum has got me thinking about how much I’d love to see a Pixar museum. A museum with artwork, a Pixar-themed play area for the kids, screenings of storyboard reels and such, and huge figurines/statues. I’d visit for sure.

Mood: Completed

Reason: Finished with my second update to my novel!

I’m really tired.
I was playing Dance Central on Xbox Kinect, it was really fun, but exhausting.
I`m also wondering why the sleeves on this t-shirt are tight, but the rest fits fine.

I went out to dinner for youth group, that was really good.

When I got home I noticed that my shrine/spirtitual spot was very dusty. So I got a red scarf and reorginized everything. I love it. It has feather, insence, a cross, shells, starfish, a voodoo doll, salt, rocks beads, a piece of a deer antler, and other natural stuff. I also have a picture of my deseased dog and grandpa.

I like it. It’s mostly Native American artifacts, but there is also some Christian, Voodoo, and Hindi elements.

This green curry I made is reeeeeally, really good.

little-chef, I’m going to adopt children, and name them all after royalty!! <3

Anyway…my brain is completely numb. :open_mouth: What do I do???

I have another two weeks of no school, so I’m planning out my schedule. When to buy textbooks, visit the high school, read books, hang with friends, the like.

This post is not here.

Mood: Exhausted, and Annoyed.

Reason: I spent all sunday working, didn’t sleep well, and had to search for my dogs around town in a bike that was too low and the brakes were clamped slightly to the wheels. Typing right now, i just want to sleep on the keyboard while my head’s tapping: “ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ”
