I’m not a christian either JustSo Wall-eCrazy. I think the thing is just to be there for her in general as a friend. But yes, that kind of thing really could be considered insulting depending on the person, even when the person knows you technically mean well. I know if someone had said that to me just a few years ago, I would have been terrifically angry. I won’t get into details why here but things were still a bit raw surrounding the matter back then. Of course you know this person better to gauge her reaction compared to me not to mention the situation so perhaps don’t follow my advice word to word. But a simple ‘You’re in my thoughts’ can be nice too. That people actually care.
Pray if you want to sure (you don’t have to tell her if you don’t want to in any case, and things like prayer, mediation, writing or thinking things through in your head like a conversation can help make things a little clearer and even help come towards a true solution or start the path to the solution itself), but that’s not really perhaps the only thing you can do.
Depending on her situation perhaps there’s possible research to be done online, there’s possible helplines and other things possibly depending on her situation (whatever it may be), and if you’re not able to dispense advice relating to her problem, they might be able to instead (whatever it is). Adults are sometimes necessary depending on the severity of this, and it sounds like she needs help whatever it might be. But I’d be gentle and show them you care in this way and to advise them to get help and advice from people if necessary. They may be at first stubborn at the idea of actual help in the form of other people. The thing is not to be forceful or to pretend you know best or know exactly how to fix everything instantly, but to help them understand you’re worried, you want to help but you’re not sure how to but perhaps you know some people who will. (Not necessarily in a religous sense). Maybe eventually a little push towards getting help will be necessary, but at first I guess it would be best to be gentle with her and try to make her promise she gets help from an informative source if she really needs it.
Whether or not someone is agnostic/atheist like me or someone believes in a christian deity or a different one, it’s not nice to feel alone or without actual human help, especially when times are rough.
I hope that helps, sorry to barge in if you didn’t want me to , just thought I’d throw in my 2 cents as someone who isn’t a christian herself. I hope things work out for you both.
mentalguru: Thanks for the help. Man, I feel so ashamed now; I wish I could delete my post, but all I can do is just edit it. And I didn’t even use this person’s name or anything.
Hope it helps in any case, and you’re welcome. I don’t think you should really feel ashamed myself, you’re just worried for your friend that’s all, and you didn’t really mention her main issue or name in your post, it’s terrifically unlikely we’d be able to find out who or what this is precisely about ourselves.
My midterms are coming up next week. I’m scared to death. But then again, we might have a snow day tomorrow! crosses fingers
So I might not be on as much with all the studying invovled shudder
Well, on the bright side, you might get a smile both Bruce and Randall would be impressed by if you’re lucky.
(Yeah I know it’s no fun and even just ‘cleaning’ is a bit annoying sometimes. I also had braces as a teen for a few years which was ‘fun’ as well, especially tightening with the orthadontist.)
Went to go visit a friend today. She had her appendix removed yesterday, so we made her a card and went over to her house to say hi.
Unfortunately, all the talk about doctors and hospitals almost made me pass out, so I felt bad that we had to leave earlier. I feel terrible whenever that happens. It’s only the seventh day of the new year, and already that’s happened to me. Totally not cool.
Lame! I hate those places! But I go of course! I just feel so uncomfortable there.
Well, I’m upset because Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort is having a facelift at the entrence. They took out the Golden Gate Bridge, California letters, and mosaic.
Makes me upset. I loved the feeling like you are walking into a postcard to the most beautiful place on Earth. Also they’re taking out everything San Francisco related in the park!
First they take out the GOlden Gate in the enterence, and then they took out the Victorian buildings/San Francisco Street for the Little Mermaid ride. Such a bummer, because in my opinion, SF is the best city in the state!
I heard all about that EJE. I was pretty upset because I’ve always wanted to go to DCA and now I’ll never get to see what it looked like in its original form.
On the other hand there seems to be an injection of art deco style in the redesign. I can really get behind something like that.
I’m thinking about starting a blog focusing on elements of movies nobody likes to reveal that one can find great stuff everywhere, even in the most terrible of things. I’d post things like pics of concept art and production design, good quotes, clips, music, etc.
I was wondering if anyone else would actually like to be involved in something like that?
Yep, It’s apperently going to be 1920s Los Angeles, just the way it was like when Walt Disney came to California lIt’s cool, but I still perfer the Postcard visual. Also the letters were fun to do photo ops! Only they never had a “M” for “Mackenzie” or a K “For Kenzie”!
Hopefull it will look better in real life than concept art
The original one was cool because the monorail would go through the Golden Gate Bridge! Way smaller than the actual one, but less traffic! (Let me tell you, there’s nothing worse than being in traffic on a bridge over the Bay in Earthquake country!)
To be honest the new design for the entrance kind of looks a little like a more decorative and closely packed form of that theme park which has ‘hurricane harbor’ right next to it which I went to in California too, or at least I think it does, but I might be misremembering here. (Six flags? It has the best rollarcoasters I’ve ever been on in my entire life at any rate, including one which literally made you feel you were flying by holding you horizontally). Or at least I -think- it llooks like the area you have to pay your tickets at though not the actual gate you had to go through afterwards to get in. Before hand there was an ultra annoying opening ceremony we had to sit through but it was worth it and we managed to get on a few rollarcoasters before lines got too extreme as well.
I have to admit, this new entrance doesn’t look very attractive at all, but perhaps they’re trying to cut costs to make even more money- it looks much cheaper to maintain I think if we’re talking long term at any rate.
