Must be a Californian thing.
Nope, It’s a general term that isn’t uesd much anymore, not regional.
Gee willikers, I didn’t know that.
My curiousity on the phrase led me to do some research. I know we’re not on topic, I’m sorry! But it’s pretty interesting, after this I won’t post anything off topic.
I quoted it wrong. The phrase is actually “Now we’re cooking with gas” (I heard the phrase “Now we’re cooking with coal” on a comedy show taking place during the Civil War)
“now we’re cooking with gas” was uesd in the 1920s, once gas was used in stoves, making cooking more simple than previous coal or wood (hence the quote I heard coal, which was used during the Civil War)
Now “cooking with gas” doesn’t make much sense to us today, but it was a big innovation in the 1920s.
NOW WE’RE COOKING is a modern phrase which is a decendent of the original phrase.
Interesting data!
Does anyones parent’s or groundparent’s use phases we don’t use. My dad said his brother still says “swell”. I don’t think I have heard my parent’s say “groovy”.
No I haven’t either.
My mother sometimes says:
“By jinkers!” and “Darn tootin.”
I can never take her seriously when she says those things because I just can’t help but laugh.
We usually use absurd and old fashioned expressions (mostly if they’re often said by a famous character) but we do it in purpose for the laughs
I like using old slang sometimes. It can be fun.
My parents don’t use them, but I sometimes do (sort of as a joke), it must come from reading alot of comics from that time.
I am now 14 and am still Male (obviously).
I can’t believe I’ll be 20 in less than a month!
And I’m still a girl.
I can’t believe you’re that young, e-j-e.
I see you eye to eye.

And I’m still a girl
[quote]
Arn’t you pretty much a woman. You are a girl. But I thought how it’s said is usally for female’s who are not adults yet.
Really?! You’re one of the only, most people say I’m younger than I look. I guess that’s bc I don’t wear makeup and like animated movies. People just assume that.
Yeah, that’s true. It’s just weird to think of myself as a woman!
A little less then three months until I’m 17…
I’m not people! I assume a person’s age mostly because of their maturity when talking, and you seem a little older than you are.
That’s just what I read. So that means I’m a man, not a boy.
I’m guessing my bad typing and complaining is why you see my as younger.
I don’t think I necessarily see you as younger either, but I knew your real age.
