Not likely.
Iâd like to see a little evidence to back up
that accusation.
Not likely.
Iâd like to see a little evidence to back up
that accusation.
Here, Dash:
I
said this:
After reading the article from âOogieâ about his trip to Pixar, Iâm pretty
sure, W.A.L.-E. is going to be something about aliens, outer space,⊠. Someone at Pixar told him that they
need the shorts to see if they CAN do something with animation.
Lifted â> W.A.L.-E. Is the bell ringingin your head?
And you said this:
Although WAL-E wouldâve had
to start production in 2004/5 to be coming out in 2008/9. If lifted has just now been completed then they started
it about simultaneously. Not much of a test run there. If they are testing for a sci-fi feature length flick then
I suspect it has just started within the last few months setting it up for a 2010
release.
![]()
Yeah - my bad there. Since then Iâve actually learned a bit more about the production of
shorts compared to films and that Lifted wasnât âjust completed.â So yeah Lifted likely will be a
predecessor to Wall-E. Although, Iâd say I more gathered enough facts and jumped on a pre-established band
wagon rather than âstoleâ an idea that you invented.
I havenât
done any research on the subject myselfâŠbutâŠ
Wall-E, to me, could be two things already
discussed.
Wall-E could be considered a codename for a robot. And it could very well have multiple
meanings. Robots has been done before, Dreamworks if I recall, and given that Ants and A Bugs Life had had their
sublte similarities, Pixar probably figured itâs about time to do a robot movie.
Probably I would suggest
taking a page from Bicentenal Man, the Robin Williams starred film with a robot trying to be a human.
This
version would be an interesting way to go. As it would test Pixarâs abilities to manipulate a metalized main
character. (this would involve metal reflection and various reflections of other props onto the
body).
HoweverâŠthe alien one is also good.
Donât know WHERE I heard this, for sure probably wasnât
Pixar related, but was about an alien who comes to earth to learn of the human species.
Wall-E can be a
few things here.
Personally Iâve played Destroy All Humans. In the game you play an Alien who is actually a
clone of many.
So Wall-E could just be the E (therefore maybe 5th) number in a Wall series of Aliens.
Or
simply, Wall-E is just the alienâs name and just Wallie in a short term.
OR, and to think it a different
way, Wall-E may actually be ANOTHER character. For instance, may be a boy (kinda the whole ET thing here) named
Wallie who is called Wall-E by the alien.
Who can really say.
Robots would test Pixarâs technical (not
in terms of their work, but in terms of technology-making) aspects, while Wall-E would focus on beyond the
stars.
that would be cool if they did an ET thing in reverse,
where an alien boy finds and befriends a humanâŠ
but then again, thatâs kind of like Monsters
Inc.
I do like the idea of a robot trying to be human, the whole awkward, "just wanting to fit
in" kind of thing.
Well Pixar does
plug in a few things from other sources to get great gags.
Unsure really if Pixar did repeat any of the
morals or themes.
That seems to be an interesting way to go.
It goes along with the whole Artificial
Intellegence thing. If machines have hearts, can they think and act on their own, that sort of
thing.
Personally I do think A.I. can surpass Human intellegence.
Just for info - Robots was Blue Sky (makers of Ice
Age) not DreamWorks.
I think Nexas is on the right track here though. The one thing I will add though is
if this is an Andrew Santon film as believed then it may take place mostly in a foreign environment (like space)
since this is something he likes to do. (refference to Finding Nemo taking place in the ocean - an environment
fairly foreign to us)
Nexas - Interesting speculation â Iâm liking your interpretation of the matter.
The only thing I have to say against this is that Pixar is an original studio with original ideas: stealing (or
borrowing) ideas from other films is one thing that I donât see them do very often, with the exception of
Monsters Inc. (Feed the Kitty reference) and
Toy Story 2 (reference to Star Wars). But hey â you
never know. The space field has been explored so many times in movies that itâs hard to think up a new story
that does not resemble those of past films.
Weâll just have to wait and see what the future holds for
WALL-E, as we still hardly know anything about the film besides its title and
(possible) concept.
Interesting. I never
really thought about what the setting could be. Space does seem like a cool environment to put robots in. Space
seems to make sense actually. Although robots interacting with humans puts a different spin on it. It would be
cool to see how they âdealtâ with each otherâŠ
Just curious. maybe if we predict what the âEâ stands for in Wall-E, then we might
get a clue of what Wall-E really is.
The Star
Swordsman - âExtraterrestrialâ? ![]()
I think that one is pretty obviousâŠas a plain,
straight-out guess. However, it is only that: a prediction. Hopefully, we will get a teaser trailer of WALL-E
along with Ratatouille; then weâll know more about it.
I knew
Extraterrestrial would be the first word to be placed out. Maybe E could be the first letter of the main
character.
I think
Wall-E is just a âfuturisticâ spin on the name Wally, I donât think it stands for
anythingâŠ
besides, it might not even be the main characterâs name⊠like Ratatoille⊠(gosh, I
canât spell that DX)
The Star Swordsman - AhhâŠI see. Well then, it could be a number of things: Evan,
Eric, Elliot⊠![]()
Googly-Bear - Off-Topic -
For future reference, itâs spelled Ratatouille. ![]()
If the âEâ is, indeed,
the name of the main character in the film, then what do the other letters stand for in WALL-E? An affiliation,
perhaps? Or maybe a vehicle/spaceshipâŠ

An spceship would be
awesomeâŠ
Maybe WALL is like the english and H.M.S?
That leaves the letter E again. ![]()
HmmmâŠ
All
the ârobot trying to be humanâ theories sound a bit like short-circuit (and a hundred other films on that
theme). Come to think of it- the machine on the poster looks a bit like Number 5!
Maybe it is a robot
explorer (like the mars probes) that gets left behind during an expedition and has to cope on an alien planet.
The aliens might look like the ones in Toy Story 2 (Potatoheadâs adopted family!). Though personally I think
they are a bit too generic to make good aliens.
lucasisking- We now know a lot more about this topic. Check over in
Wall-E Plot in the Wall-E forum.
See ya around!
I watched the Incredibles today and noticed that the
Underminer hands look kinda like WALL-E?s hands. Take a look your self, what do you think?
JV - Hey yeah â so
thatâs where Iâve seen WALL-Eâs
âclawsâ/hand(s) before! I thought they looked familiar⊠(snigger)
Thanks for the
information, JV! ![]()
Yeah! I Agree! Good thinkin! ![]()
