Why would they do this? (WARNING: Spoilers for TS3)

If you haven’t seen Toy Story 3 yet, then run run RUN!!!

Is humanity this cruel? Are we capable of delivering such unhuman and cold products as this? First of all, (to bring attention to the nit-picking), why is Hamm in this set if the other toys aren’t. I’m aware they couldn’t put every single toy from the movie here, but at least have a more important character. Second of all, why would they release this set before the movie came out? Not only is it spoiling the movie to every kid who buys it, but it’s spoiling the movie to every person that glimpses it in the toy store, on a TV commercial, or just walking to work while passing by Macy’s (for example). It would be bad enough if they just reveal the final scene, but the fact that it’s titled “Trash Compactor Escape” and that it has the Little Green Men operating the claw is too much. Third, did they hire a Middle School kid to name the playset? Last time I checked this is what a trash compactor looked like:

This is not a trash compactor!:

Finally, why would they even make this Lego set? Wasn’t the scene in the movie emotional enough on it’s own? Wasn’t part of the brilliance of it because of the fact that it was so original and nobody would be able to make it end differently? Now your kids can have their own independent incinerator of their own, to brutally murder all the toys they’ve come to love over their lives. Genius, right? Errr…

P.S. This thread is intended to be taken as a joke and is meant to be satirical. If you are offended by this then it was not intentional and I appologize, but this is NOT meant to be taken seriously.

Yeah, I was P.O. ed the first time saw it, too. They shouldn’t do this to the movie or kids. :imp:

Yeah, that’s pretty stupid on a couple of levels. I know I didn’t see that scene in the movie and think “Gee, I’d LOVE to reinact that with MY toys!” :unamused:

Yeah, I personally don’t think it’s the best part to recreate either, however, if Lego has the rights to a movie, they’re probably going to pick a pivotal scene.

The conveyer belt would be a fun thing to recreate, but the incinerator was just too serious. Though I guess the crane is a plus.

Great points, Chuckles. Not the smartest thing Lego has done lately. :unamused:

Now excuse me while I tip Woody down the chute again! Lotso for the win! :smiling_imp:

yea… i was lucky enough tat i spent all my time in toys r us with the toy story collection n mattel toy story figures, so i didnt see tis important scene from lego b4 i saw the movie… if i examine the package b4 i saw the movie, it will be ruined… i do think tat lego shouldnt do somethg like tis again…

on the other hand, many other toys show spoilers, e.g. [spoil]woody + green plane[/spoil] from the mattel adult collector’s

How could you? MONSTER!!! :imp:    Seriously, though, that was a joke, right?

I find this both equally funny and disturbing. On the one hand, it’s hilarious that Lego actually deemed this an appropriate scene to re-enact, whilst on the other hand it’s disturbing that they deemed this an appropriate scene to re-enact. They must’ve had some complaints about this, surely.

Yeah, this was brought up a while back in the existing topic.

Also, it costs Lego more to make minifigs than regular parts, so every minifig they include in the set bumps up the price - which is why we don’t have the full cast here. Plus the Potato Heads and Slinky can’t be put into minifig form because they’re still owned by specific companies (another reason why we don’t have a Ken minifig). We have Hamm because he’s only appeared in two other sets so far (as oppose to Buzz or Jessie who have been in loads), and Lego don’t really like to sell all the main characters in one set (aside from bigger sets, like the train). These are just Lego’s ‘rules’. YEAH.

But yeah, I luckily forgot about this set when I was watching the movie, so the resolution to the situation was still quite a surprise. This set doesn’t really do the scene justice, though.

I know, but that thread wasn’t dedicated specifically to this Lego set.

I was definitely a little offended when I saw that this set exists. It reduces truly mature storytelling and very serious themes to “escape antics for 7-year-olds.”

I’m generally used to the “cheapening” effect that movie merchandise brings, but dang.

Today when I was at target I saw something similar. It was an electronic game based off the same scene. 4 players use their claw to try to save the toys from the “trash compactor” and whoever saves the most of them wins. The cover shows Buzz being saved by an Alien, and Woody and Jessie getting close to the edge with horrified looks on their faces.

To me it just screams “bad idea for a game, especially one aimed at kids” but it’s just not cool to do that kind of thing with such a great scene. If anyone would like, I can probably hunt down a pic of this thing. It kinda suits the game that I found it on the clearance row at Target.

Wow. That’s like having a [spoil]“head-in-the-box”[/spoil] game for the movie Se7en, or a Tyler Durden doll, that, when immersed in water, turnes into [spoil]Edward Norton.[/spoil] I feel very sorry for anyone who had the movie spoiled for them by this ridiculous and disturbing toy.

So you want each of the 20+ Lego Toy Story sets to have their own topic? The original topic is a catch-all discussion of all Lego Toy Story sets, including this one, and the points raised in this topic have already been discussed in the previous topic.

EDIT- Please don’t use quotes within quotes. Thanks!

There are lots of threads that are more specific than existing topics. looks at Pixar DVD threads. It’s not worth arguing about. If it’s bad, the mods will lock it up. If not, it doesn’t matter.

If anyone wants to comment in the general TS lego thread,

pixarplanet.com/forums/viewt … story+lego

I don’t think you understand the point of this particular thread. This isn’t just about the Lego set it is about the spoilers the set raises and the spoilers other toys show of Toy Story 3.

EDIT- Please don’t use quotes within quotes, thanks!

No it isn’t, it’s about the spoilers of this Lego set, which is already being discussed in the other topic. But whatever.

I hate to quote myself, but can we stop this pointless arguing?

Actually I wrote this topic mainly to question why someone would take an incredibly sad and emotional scene like this that touched the hearts of millions of movie-watchers and left a dark impression on me…and turn it into a childrens toy. It’s like if they made a Freddy Krueger teddy bear, maybe.

I know you’re being serious, but this part made me laugh.
