duh, thats the point. Sorry if I offended you.
Pixar.rocks- Well do you know who Katzenberg is? He used to be the head of Disney Animation until he quit because he didn’t get a promotion, and guess what he cofounded, DreamWorks. DreamWorks animation is a sort of revenge to Disney tat never really worked out. I read To Infinity and Beyond too, but you seem to have missunderstood it, Pixar and PDI were “friends” before they were affiliated with DreamWorks. When Pixar found out PDI was doing a bug movie and releasing it around the time of A Bug’s Life, they forgave PDI since they knew it was all Katzenberg behind it, but when DreamWorks faked them out by changing the release date, that’s when the rivalry started. Pixar had to keep everything secret and they do so to this day. Basically, Pixar was caught in Katzenberg’s dumb battle against Disney. Today Pixar and DreamWorks have friendly competition and they claim to “keep each other at their top game”.
Anyhow, DreamWorks doesn’t write their movies for “much older audiences” they write and market their movies to kids, they add the dirty jokes and references because they need to take up space becasue their stand alone stories cannot hold a feature film. It’s sad actually. You can tell that DreamWorks dumbs down their stories so kids (and only kids) will enjoy them thoroughly. Pixar writes for themselves, becasue when it comes down to it, they are viewers too, they know what people want. Not only taht, but they take time (2 years) writing the story, and it doesn’t come out of production until it’s perfect. I really admire Pixar for that, they really care, DreamWorks just cares that they can make “cool” characters that the kids will like, and then if they get lucky, they squeeze as much money as possible out of those movies that are succesful. My point is, Pixar movies are for all audiences , while DreamWorks makes their movies kinda… well… dumb.
Anyways, Rac_Rules, I know you were joking when you wrote that little dialogue, but do you know who the “Pixar script writer” happens to be for their movies, the director (and a small team)!! So basically you’re making fun of John Lasseter.
Ok, thanks martini833.
I wasn’t trying to make fun of Pixar, I was trying to show them as the sensible, clean one.
Yeah, I know, just letting you know exactly who you’re talking about.
Pixar doesn’t need to rely on dumb jokes to sell a movie, like DreadWorks.
I think a collaboration would be very interesting, though I think I’m mostly referring to the forces behind Kung Fu Panda. Pixar may be many, many steps ahead of DW, but I would be interested in seeing what they come up with. The individuals at the other studio couldn’t possibly be so hard- headed :
And thanks martini for posting the bit earlier on the page…I had no idea about the whole revenge-type motive! Very amusing.
And it was all because Katzenberg didn’t get a promotion at Disney.
Yeah that’s the more incredible, I mean that started the hole thing of “revenge” and stuff !
I don’t see how Dreamworks and Pixar would collaborate anyway. They do the same thing, it’s not like one will make the movie and the other will distribute (like 1906, which Pixar will produce but will be distributed/promoted by WB).
Only way I can think of is if Brad Bird or someone from Pixar goes over to Dreamworks to make a movie that Katzenberg ordered, like say if Katzenberg wants Bird to write Kung Fu Panda 2. Waste of talent if you ask me, as many here have said, Pixar directors nurture their own stories from the start, which I like.
Also, we’ve already seen some people go back and forth between studios. e.g., Brad Lewis, director of Cars 2 and producer of Ratatouille, used to work for Dreamworks. I believe he worked on Antz.
I think it would actually be rather amusing if they collaborated in a way that would involve both companies deciding the general storyline and theme of the film, and then Pixar would do the first 60 or so minutes, and Dreamworks would do the last 60 minutes. The drop in quality of both the story and characters would be hilarious.
i read a pretty interesting article on kung fu panda, recently: apparently the reason it was so good was because the film crew were given extra time to develop their storylines / characters / concepts, etc than they normally would. i hope this is a continued trend! although it doesn’t look like it happened with space chimps…blerughhhh.
[edit: my mistake - space chimps aren’t dreamworks. i find all those companies tend to melt into one, though!]
i wouldn’t like them to work together. dreamworks company ethos is different, plus they use completely different rendering software (you can see it in the fur, backdrops, etc). pixar are the pioneers of animation, where dreamworks seem to be more into the crass marketing/cashing in (as happened with earlier features - “HEY! finding nemo is the newest pixar flick! let’s coincidentally release a crappy fish movie with about 430530545 bad fish jokes and an ANGELINA JOLIE FISH”
in other news, i /really/ want to get hold of that infinity & beyond book!
hollietree, that comment is so true you made me bust a gut.
u make me bust a gut sometime, dude!!!
Well, I don’t really think their elements would mix well, but it would be cool to see Pixar and Dreamworks merging together.
Hahah, I like how you answered that Basil!
I second that.
I love how Basil always uses photos
Anyway, I hate DW. Yes, I just went there. Love Chris Sanders, hate DW. I <3 Pixar. Such a combination would make my head spin, and…well…I would never forgive Pixar, unless Jeff Katz gets fired first.
If that happened, even Chuck Norris would wet himself.
Epic win.
I can’t really understand why so many here hate Dreamworks. Sure their films aren’t perfect and nowhere near as good as Pixar, but they are good for a bit of entertainment and also a bit funny if you don’t compare them to Pixar standards.
Still, I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
