You know what really grinds my gears?

I don’t really go along with all this religion stuff but I do respect other’s choices as long as they don’t try to cram it down your throat. That alright? xD

I agree with Rac,I also Hate it when people feel like they have to judge and crtique everything,if you ask me it’s very arrogant, and I STRONGLY dislike people who do that… :imp:

xCarsLuverx: Well, I personally don’t have a problem if someone wants to give constructive criticism on something, but if it’s just negative criticism with no meaning, then yeah - I see where you’re coming from.

In some ways, criticism can be good and bad, and sometimes it’s okay to criticize something (in a respective way, of course!).

If you’re making reference to art or movies, then I believe that criticism may be okay, but like I said, it’s only okay if the person critiquing the material does not do it in a way that is degrading - criticism is just a way of helping people out. When someone points out a mistake in your art or whatever work you do, it shows you what places you need to work on so you can get better at what you do.

But I definitely agree with you on the fact that some people do get a bit over the top and just call it “criticism” so they don’t get accused of bashing anyone. That can get quite irritating.

^ I see that problem in debates, especially over the internet. Back when they still allowed religious/political debate here (I kind of think now banning it was a good idea–it did make the place seem a lot less friendly) some users would mistake “debate and critique” and think that means “you can say whatever the heck you want, throwing rather offensive insults included, and its okay.” Yeah, sorry, but that’s not debate, that’s bashing. There’s a difference.

I’ll tell you what grinds my gears…

Console fanboys. Bunch of stuck-up, delusional hypocrites who workship their system like a god and insult others for not agreeing with what they think. Most of the time, they only like the console for it’s graphics and hardware. Ugh, they’re everywhere. Youtube, gaming sites and even the Little Big Planet community. These people need to grow up and realise every console has it’s advantages and disadvantages. We probably wouldn’t have all this console war rubbish if it weren’t for people like this.

Rant over.

^My thoughts exactly! I consider myself a gamer but I don’t insist on console/brand loyalty. Can’t we just enjoy the games we want to enjoy?

What I’ve been saying for years now, 100 percent true.

If one can afford it I reccomend owning all 3 current/seventh generation systems as they all have great games on them.

Yeah, ditto on the console fanboy front. The only reason I have a PS3 over an Xbox 360 is because I had a PS2 and I wouldn’t be able to play them on an Xbox. And the only reason I had a PS2 in the first place was because my dad bought it for me. People can’t believe that I simply have no bias, and that it was all circumstancial. Is it really that much of a big deal what consoles you choose to play on?

And that, my friend, is why I don’t play video games.

Just saying here, but you can play video games and avoid and/or brush those kinds of people aside, it’s what I do.

Thanks for the advice. I was just kidding around though. The real reason is because I’m lame and I never take a side and got a new console after the PS2. I guess I just don’t like playing video games that much.

Well, I can’t say I blame you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not at all. Fanboys say things like “ps3 is da best xbox and wii suk any 1 who h8s sony isnt a true gamer lolololololol”. And as much as I like the Playstation, it’s community has several immature fanboys who think Sony is the only true gaming company.

I’ll tell what also annoys me. Fred Figglehorn on Youtube. He has one of the most annoying voices ever, and he’s not even funny. He just films a video of himself doing stupid stuff then speeds his voice up.

The real reason though why I hate him so much is the fact he’s getting fame in the media for something mostly anyone could do. I mean, all he really does is speed his voice up. If you look at all the things he’s earned (Merchandise, TV movie, lots of subscribers e.g) it’s pretty clear that the media is desperate to make any talentless hack famous.

I could do what Fred could do myself, probably better than him. I could probably write better, more interesting plots. Would I embarass myself by doing that though? Oh no. No way. I’d say that the only reason he has so many subscribers and fame is because of the population of immature kids out there who actually think some talentless hack making their voice higher is funny.

And if you think about it, is his show really appropriate for kids? Of course not. Just look at the characters. His mum is a drug-addicted alcoholic and his dad is on death-row. I also forgot to mention. Because of his fame, he’s managed to appear as a guest star on two awful TV shows, iCarly and Hannah Montana. If you ask me, I’d say he fits in perfectly.

Overall, I think Fred has no talent at all. If you like Fred, that’s fine. Just understand that the above is merely my personal opinion.

What happens to grind my gears is when people completely reject any form of modern music that appears, and call it s*** just because it’s new stuff. As if the oldies are the only form of music acceptable to listen to or something, or that oldies are the only “good music” out there. I have nothing wrong with the oldies, but I really, really hate it when people have this mindset. Then you’re made to feel like some idiot because you happen to like a whole bunch of stuff that’s in.

little chef

Oh god, I can’t believe that clown’s getting his own movie. My brother couldn’t even finish watching one episode of him. I fared worse, I ‘backpaged’ after five seconds when I first discovered him(I’m not kidding!).

Well, IMHO most contemporary music is a little hedonistic. They tend to have a club-beat and fit in well with a discotheque environment, but their lyrics are just too provocative and lurid for kids to listen to. I miss the good ol’ days of Backstreet Boys, or Celine Dion, or even The Beatles where they would sing about first love and going on dates and all that sweet stuff. Nowadays, the lyrics would be about drinking, ‘living it up’, more drinking, shaking booties, and getting laid. Of course, there are people like Bruno Mars and Michael Buble (who does Sinatra covers anyway), but these are the exceptions rather than the rule.

Don’t get me wrong, I am a full-blooded adult who likes a little spiciness every now and then. But the raunch culture is getting too pervasive even for my taste.

Usher used to be a great R&B singer, but now he’s given in to the ‘Armin Van Buren’ scene and starts doing techno. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, I dig ‘Falling In Love Again’ and maybe a few Gaga numbers, but there’s very few wholesome bubblegum pop. Same with rap. Listen to Grandmaster Flash and compare that with 50-Cent and you can see the difference in tone and purpose. As for music videos, the singers try to be as vulgar as possible (or in Gaga’s case, lay the innuendos thick) on the pretense of being ‘edgy’ and ‘provocative’. :frowning:

Call me an old-fashioned idealistic conservative when it comes to music, but when can we get some modern music that kids can actually safely listen to?

I’ve seen the Fred movie…I almost threw up. It was unbearably awful.

Mac haters / “All Mac users are hipsters/morons/only use art and music programs”-believing people grind my gears quite a bit.

What’s even more disgraceful about Fred’s movie is the fact that next year, it’s getting a theatrical release in the United Kingdom. What is the point in that? I bet that barely anybody here knows who Fred is. Why couldn’t they have just aired it on Nickelodeon like they did in the United States? Or a much better idea, not aired it at all?

I can’t think of anybody over here in the right mind who’d pay money to see some annoying, screaming brat on a big screen. If anybody over here would want to see this garbage, I’m sure they’d just buy a US Import DVD of the film on Amazon instead of waiting a year to see it in cinemas. Seriously, whoever thought that it was a good idea to release this crap in the UK theatrically should be sent to a mental hospital.

Call me crazy, but I will watch this movie if I get the chance to. Not so I can enjoy it, so I can see how terrible it is. It has to be bad, especially since it already has a 2.5/10 user rating on IMDb.com.

I agree! I don’t see the appeal of his videos, I can’t even watch a whole one, because it they are so annoying! And then he gets his own movie, I mean, realy? Ugh.

Couldn’t put it any better. I am so tired of hearing like, 9 and 10 year olds singing “I’ll get him hot, show him what I got!” :open_mouth: The music is ok for older teens and adults, but little kids needn’t be getting exposed to it. I guess there are some contemporary bands that might be good for all age groups though, Owl City is always clean. I think their music is pretty good. I’m not like a big fan or anything (it doesn’t charge me up the same way, say, The Beach Boys does), but it’s still one of the better bands IMO out there.

I hate it when I type something really long and important and then when I press submit my screen comes up with a notification “Connection closed by remote server” then when I reconnect to the internet, the important post i was about to submit has gone and it says “no post mode specified” or something like that. Grrrr it ain’t half stressful!
