It sort of grinds my gears when people say Pixar’s films are for babies and toddlers. Um, no. That’s not true. Pixar’s films always have something that can appeal to every age group. Kids can’t just enjoy them, adults and teenagers can too. I’m nearly 16, and I still enjoy films like Toy Story and Monsters Inc, and people who tell me I’m too old to watch them can keep it to themselves.
I know! I know plenty of adults and teens who love Pixar movies. That does drive me crazy sometimes.
Those people are just stupid and ignorant because Pixar movies can be enjoyed by everyone.
You know what REALLY grinds my gears? When I’m on a forum and if I type something it gets FILTERED into SOMETHING ELSE. Sure, I’m fine with censoring and all that jazz, but really, turning ‘cool story bro’ (I admit, old meme that is unfunny) into ‘I have no friends’? REALLY? Smart move RWP, almost make me wanna leave your little big Banjo-Kazooie hacking community >_>
Haha, Badger, that reminds me of an April Fool’s prank my sister pulled on her own forum one year. The word “the” would be censored with “monkey butts”. It caused a pretty strange reaction.
Haha, that was honest of you to admit that, lizardgirl. No biggie, I’ve been to Dubai before, and they’re pretty liberal there. Any Emirates country is forgiving to tourists, though of course, you have to try to be on your ‘best behaviour’. Malaysia is not as conservative as the Middle East, women can be pretty fashionable with their headdresses. My friend was ‘interrogating’ a Muslim friend of mine (you can read about it in the ‘Current Moods’ thread) with some silly questions about the her ‘tudung’, but we all thought it pretty funny (including the Muslim friend). As an interesting piece of trivia, if you ever wondered what Muslim women wear as swimwear, they wear the headdress, long-sleeve shirt, and a pair of tracksuits.
As for whether it’s extreme, from my research paper and personal experience, I’d say every religion has their own extremist elements (Buddhism is probably the most moderate one). Islam is not so much as extreme, but strict with their doctrines. There are some controversial parts of the Quran (and any other Abrahamic religion for that matter) which I won’t go into now, but it is mostly due to historical events and some religious leaders’ own personal motivations that led to such interpretations. It is my belief all religions, in their essence, advocate that humans aspire and work towards being the best they can be to themselves and to others, and the sooner we realise not every religion is perfect, the better we are able to work together to find our common beliefs.
Anyway, I think I’ve gone off topic too…
Yeah I agree, the one people I truly hate are jerks. It’s alright to be dumb or misguided (cos’ we’re all ignorant to a certain extent), but when you’re just mean or dismissive towards others, and you know it, there is no excuse. You always have the choice to debate in a friendly and matured manner, or act like a total twat.
Yeah, I think I saw the closing down of that one, but I wish I had actually paid attention to that board then. I’ve recently taken a personal interest in religion after reading about recent events (the building of the New York mosque, the burning of the Quran, the declaration of Mary MacKillop as Oz’ first Catholic saint, etc.). That and the fact that I’m agnostic makes me curious to learn more about the ‘other side’ (and to give me ‘ammunition’ in case we ever do get in a friendly debate, which is most likely never the way most people act on forums nowadays ).
“Dumb or misguided”??? I find that very offensive.
Anti-fandom. You know what I mean. We’re all guilty of it. You hate something, and you rub it into everyone’s face until you have no friends. I hate it.
Anyway, I respect all religions, and the lack thereof. I’m honestly looking into Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, and Mormanism. They’re just people. Being different doesn’t make you wrong.
Honestly, I feel much more loose now. I believe in and adore Jesus, but I also like some Muslim beliefs better than some Christian(gasp!! I’m going to get shot…) pretentious, judgemental ways. I’d say Islam is the most interesting, followed by Hinduism. I’m not switching religions, but learning about others. Honestly, I think I have a little bit of everything in me now except Athiesm or Agnostic. I feel very free now, as dumb as it may sound.
Well that only makes sense. After all, Islam and Christianity are brother languages, along with Judaism.
And you sound like me! I’m believe in Universalism, I believe that there is one divinity and many spirits, and religions are different ways to worship God.
There is a Sikhism saying that says “All religions are rivers that flow into one ocean”
I don’t think that’s what they meant. I think they meant that they understand if you unintentionally insult others religions because you are ignorant about their beliefs or don’t know any better (like a child asking a stupid question about a less common religion. They should be corrected and scolded, but are not necessarily mean people), but if you do know better and are just being a jerk, that’s a whole different pot of tea there.
…And this is why we don’t allow religious talk. I think we should end it with that, OK?
I said that couple posts back. And about being dumb. I have no doubt of something higher then us. But I am not willing to “bow down and worship” something I do not fully believe in or agree on. I have no problem with what people do as far as religon and personal affairs. That is there own life and it is there birth right to do as they wish at there own risk. It is there “free will” to do what they wan’t and it is my “free will” to say or think on it or any other matters as I wan’t but, I choose not too judge one or critisize ones bielfes or life style. As I don’t feel as if it is right for me to do so.
You’re absolutely right, Rac. I have nothing against ignorance or wrong teaching (in general). Besides, what’s ‘wrong’ is subjective. But I have everything against antagonism and bullying. That was what I meant by that statement.
And that’s totally cool, and I respect that. Read my post again. I’m against anyone- Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist, Hindu, Scientologist, Pastafarian, Atheist or Agnostic who are mean or disrespectful to another’s beliefs on purpose. I’m also talking about the fact that I’m fine with people being dumb or misguided in general (it’s okay to ask questions, have friendly debates, or clarify mistaken assumptions about something), not just with respect to religion. Again, it’s trolls and bullies that I can’t stand.
mopar, you should ask instead of assuming things …anyway another gear-grinder is people who like to show-off their riches,as if that’s a reason to feel superior…But these days the world revolves around money though…
He probably didn’t mean it, carsluver, but again that supports my stance on ‘accidental offense’. That’s the reason why we ask questions, have friendly debates, and clarify mistaken assumptions. As long as one didn’t mean to insult anyone on purpose, one didn’t do anything wrong. Nobody knows the answers to everything and the true nature of our existence, and we’re all just human beings, myself included.
Anyway, yeah, I get annoyed when people flash money. However, I wonder if I would think the same if the ‘money-flasher’ treated me? Would I still feel annoyed, or would I be happy I got a free lunch/gift/round of grape soda thanks to someone owning a lot of money? Hmmm… I think too much.
@xcarsluverx Doing that might keep me outta trouble sometimes.
@thedriveinthetre So sorry. Wasnt really have’n a good day. Sorry if I upset anyone.
Sorry guys.
About the money thing… Yeah. Um annoys me sometimes.
No worries, mate! Anyway, yeah, we all wish we have money (Unless you live in a Communist regime or a remote island colony, you’d need money to survive), so it’s only natural that we get a little ‘sour grapes’ with people who have more of it.
What I can’t stand are chronic borrowers. I’m afraid to admit I have friends who keep asking me to lend them money to eat, pay their cinema ticket, buy a pencil, etc. And then they go buy the latest video game, comic book, RAM upgrade card for their custom PC, insert unnecessary luxury item here. I’ve tried hinting to them and they’re sort of getting the message, but I can’t stand people who are ‘penny wise, pound foolish’. Now I’ve gotta be honest and say I do treat myself every now and then, but I always make sure I have enough to afford my lunch first.
This is how the whole subprime mortgaging crisis started, because of irresponsible spending and not enough savings. I’m all for advocating compulsory financial literacy education in every high school if I had it my way; folks need to realize if they can’t afford it, they can’t afford it, end of story.
I was the one everyone wen’t for money in school. And they always paid me back.
That’s cool, mopar. I need to mix with better company, I guess.
eh just tell them if you dont get your money back then you’re never doing it again. Thats what I did.
ellie-jessie-eve, that sounds cool. Maybe we should talk about it in a PM.
Eh, if people earned the money, they can “flash” it all they want. I’m dirt poor, and it never offended me. Now, if it’s their parents earned money, that’s a whole different animal.
But it also annoys me when people spend money they don’t have or can’t afford to repay. Monetary responsibility, people!
What grinds my gears is when people say that Beauty and the Beast glorified Stockholm syndrome…yeah…
