CARS!! (duh) ![]()
I think we might have already done this but we can do it
again.
Cars is my favorite Pixar film of all time. If Ratatouille is really good then it will probably be
my favorite Pixar film of all time.
Uhm…This is very
difficult for me, but it has to be Toy Story.
Well this should be an obvious one. The incredibles. Long list of reasons why, but I
don’t want to get started.
Here ya’ go:

Ages
Knock yourself out. ![]()
Wow, you really must love Nemo! Just looks at that huge piece of writing! All I can
say is wow.
The Star Swordsman -
Haha – thanks! ![]()
I’ve only seen the film about sixty-four times. Every quote and movement of the
characters does not go unnoticed by me, and don’t even get me started on the number of Nemo toys I have.
There’s a reason I joined the Finding Nemo Usergroup. ![]()
Alright, I’ll
stop going off-topic now. (heheh)
Here is how my ratings for Pixar films would
go.
Nemo
3)
Cars
4)
Toy Story
2
5) A Bug’s
Life
6)
Toy
Story
7)
Monsters Inc.
1. Cars
Toy Story 2
3.Monster
Inc.
4 and 5. Finding Nemo and
The Incredibles is a tie for me.
Story
The Star Swordsman - Good idea. By the way, may I ask why
Monsters Inc. is your least favorite Pixar film?
Here is my list:
1) Finding Nemo
2) Toy Story
2
3) Monsters Inc.
4) Toy
Story
5) The Incredibles
6)
Cars
7) A Bug’s Life
I estimate that
Ratatouille will take the place of Toy Story 2 in the
future, moving the other films down the list a bit. (snigger)
Incredibles
7. Cars
Well, Monsters is
last not because the movie was bad. I just happened to like the other movies more.
Monsters, Inc. now seems to have this really, really
weird atmosphere to me…I think it’s because of the Art Of book. It’s so creepy.
Mitch: Toy Story 2 and Monster Inc. are
both 2 and 3 for us.
I had no idea that Cars is one of your least favorite Pixar films.
Do you think
Ratatouille will be #1 on your list?
The Star
Swordsman - Ahh…I see. Now I understand – heheh.
lizardgirl - I definitely know what you mean. The Art of
Monsters Inc. book scared me to bits. ![]()
JV - Haha – yeah,
I figured that somebody would be a little bit surprised concerning the fact that
Cars is one of my least favorite films. You wanna know why? Well, to tell you the
truth, I have never liked cars in general. To me, they are (or were) just boxes with wheels; until I watched
Cars, I never did like them that much. Well…except for this one Ferrari that I saw
in a car museum once. My aunt is a huge car fan, so everytime she comes over to
visit, my sister and I have to, of course, go with her to a car show or museum. Well, there was this one museum
that we went to (which was showing Cars trailers – heheh) which housed the most
beautiful Ferrari. I’m telling you, I fell in love with it. So now, the Ferrari is
my favorite car (besides the Honda), which is saying something. ![]()
And yep,
Ratatouille will probably be either #1 or #2 on my list. More than likely, it will
take its place at the #2 spot on the list, since I don’t think that anything – even rats – can
ever take away my love for Finding Nemo. ![]()
In order, here are mine.
Story
5) Finding Nemo
6) Toy Story 2
7) The Incredibles
I don’t hate any film- it’s hard to
hate something created by Pixar. And hate’s a strong word. I just liked some better than others.
A few of the places on my list
seem to shuffle around from time to time, generally depending on how recently I’ve watched each of the films,
but so far the only major change (i.e., more than one space up or down) would be The Incredibles going from 1 to
5, but that only happened because it was a while before I got around to actually getting copies of Pixar’s other
films. ![]()
1.) Cars
2.) A Bug’s Life
3.) Monsters, Inc.
4.) Toy Story
5.) The
Incredibles
6.) Toy Story 2
7.) Finding Nemo
ABL and MI are definitely the two that flip-flop the
most, between 2nd and 3rd. The Incredibles dropped down partly because, after watching it so many times, I
noticed a few things that I hadn’t noticed before that bugged me a little (I seem to recall FONY having
mentioned having this happen to her, as well), but after watching it again not too long ago, I think it might be
gaining on TS a bit… which means that I’ve probably gone a bit too long without watching that one, as well!

And before I get voted off the island for having Nemo last, I’d like to do a little to make my
case. As you should all be able to guess, yes, I do of course love the movie, and it’s just my least favorite
and not at all a bad film, but when you get down to it, Nemo seems to have the most “kiddy” feel to it
of all their films. All Pixar’s movies are built to appeal just as much to kids as to adults, but obviously
each one is still going to have a different balance; The Incredibles, I think it is safe to say, is the one that
would be farthest towards the “adult” side of things, and it seems to me that Nemo is farthest towards
the “kids” side of thing. It’s odd, looking at how the theme of the movie is really about fatherhood,
so maybe my view will change once I’m a father, but for now, tone-wise that’s just the way it seems to
me.
Edit: And of course now I realize that the
thread is about your favorite film, which I didn’t talk about at all.

The fact that Cars was the first theatrical release after my Pixar obsession began is definitely
somewhat of a contributor towards me liking it so much, but obviously it would be foolish for that to be a very
large reason. I love the story, but more than that I think it’s the characters that do it for me. The citizens
of Radiator Springs, while not being terribly well-developed, add their own little brand of humor to the movie,
and the major characters are, I think, some of the best that Pixar’s come up with to date. Lightning’s an
incredibly believable character, and while his character arc through the film is of course incredibly
predictable, the way it’s done makes it a wonderful experience to watch. Sally is so much more than the
obligatory love interest, also acting as probably the deciding factor in
Lightning’s change (although it’s a close call between her and Doc). And of course Doc. For sheer depth of
character and backstory potential (which, Pixar being Pixar, I’m sure was thoroughly developed but never
revealed to the public), Doc is my favorite Pixar character ever, period. I could make an incredibly lengthy
post about Doc, but, seeing as I probably will sometime sooner or later, I’ll spare
you all for the time being.
Only character I really have any gripes about is Mater. (Finding Nemo and Mater
in the same thread; I’m just asking to be burned at the stake, aren’t I?
)
Down-to-earth is fine, but I think Pixar went a little bit too overboard with the
cute, innocent stupidity aspect of him; I can’t help but feel like he’s the sort of person (car) that I
wouldn’t be able to help but talk down to, which I don’t think is what Pixar intended at all… Or maybe I’m
just a little too preppy and am missing his character’s point entirely.
And finally, it is simply a
beautiful film. Pixar’s animation is at its best in Cars, and the cars’ design is astounding, making them so
alive. The car-ified southwestern desert is absolutely gorgeous, and the race scenes are breathtaking. I also
love the use of vocal music, especially non-Randy Newman vocal music (nothing against Randy, but it’s just nice
to have a bit of a change). Not only is the music incredibly good, but it fits the movie perfectly, as opposed
to just being in there gratuitously, as some other companies do with their computer animated films…
DElf - Seems like you and I
have something in common – lengthy, wonderfully drawn and opinion-ated posts are our speciality. ![]()
I
was wondering whether or not you would explain to me why you placed the spectacular
film of Finding Nemo at the very epitemy of your list – I was almost on the verge
of shock there. (snigger)
However, I understood you completely…once you sincerely explained your point.
Finding Nemo is, indeed, one of Pixar’s “cuddliest” films, so to speak;
it is, as you said, geared toward a younger audience, despite the fact that it does contain a fair amount of
adult-themed comedy.
I also seem to relate to your lack of “appreciation” for Mater.
Unfortunately, and as much as I hate to say it, I never could find a reason to love Mater exclusively more than
any of the other characters in Cars (or all of the Pixar productions put together,
for that matter). Now, don’t get me wrong, he is a wonderful addition to the plot of the movie he stars in.
Simply put, I’m not as “Mater-crazy” as some other people are, for some odd reason.
And yes,
Doc also has to be one of my favorite Pixar characters to date. His gentle, yet mysterious personality won me
from the moment I met him in the little town of Radiator Springs. To tell you the truth, he is only my second
favorite after Dory.
Another wonderful post, by the way, DElf. I love lengthy discussions that center on
particular subjects. ![]()
Here’s my list:
Story
5. A Bug’s Life
6. Monsters, Inc.
7. Cars
As I said in the (now archived) thread that I
started called “Where do you think ‘Ratatouille’ will rank in your Pixar list”, the fact that
Cars ranks last doesn’t really say much about the quality of the film. That’s
because, in my opinion, every single Pixar film has been brilliant so far.
I’m
not sure where Ratatouille will be on my list. It won’t be number one, but I also know it won’t be last either.
I’m gonna say in between Nemo and Cars. (Maybe TS2)
