Cars

I’m surprised so many of you rate Cars so highly- (is it an American thing?). I thought the story

was weak and the characters hard to relate to- more like a traditional, sugar coated disney film. The other

Pixars were funnier, cleverer, more satirical and had more heart.

That’s just my opinion- for what i’ts

worth.

I also have another theory- my 3 year old son’s least favourite movies are MI and Cars. These are

the only two movies not set in ‘the real world’ (albeit a real world where Superheroes exist, fish can talk and

toys come to life!!).

lucasisking - Welcome to Pixar Planet,

lucasisking! I hope you enjoy your stay here.

As for the movie preferences:

Well, everyone has their own tastes, likes, and dislikes. I’m not all that fond of

Cars myself, but other people around here absolutely rave about it.

Finding Nemo is currently at the very top of my list; however, others don’t seem to

care for the film as much as, say, The Incredibles. It all depends on your

preference and point of view.

But, again, welcome to the forum boards!

I’m a fan of the movie ( #2 on my list , behind FN )

because I’m a big fan of NASCAR ( i’d say go elliot Sadler , but he had to go switch to dodge , ill stay with

my M&M people ) and i love antique cars , especially the super rare 1951 hudson hornet that’s so big

there’s no way i’d be able to drive it . Also , it has to do with route 66 , a more , american setting . I’m a

big fan of the 50’s retro , so i relate to the movie a lot .

Why I love Finding Nemo : It has to do with

saltwater fish , the kind I could watch at the pet store close to my house for hours , maybe days !

Like Mitch said , it all has to do with preference and point of view .

Thanks for the welcome guys.

You’re quite right- would be a dull world if we all had the same preferences. Yet at the same time our

differences make for good debate.

I think there is something to like about all the films- even my less

favourite ones. And all bias aside, I think even a sub-par pixar film is in a league above many of the lesser

studios.

Although I said I didn’t like cars as much, that could change once I’ve seen it a few more

times (which won’t happen yet for the reasons mentioned in the Cars thread!).

I think as long as the

studio keeps being inventive, witty, charming and keeps telling good stories, the list will go on and on- maybe

as long as the traditional Disney series.

lucasisking- Welcome to Pixar Planet!

I have to agree with you on the

Cars front- it’s definitely a Pixar film that I’m not so keen on in comparison with the others. I think you’re

right about it being an American thing with all the fans- they can relate it to NASCAR and it becomes very

appealing, and the entire film itself did have that retro American theme, as gottalovepixar said, which is

probably why Cars did so much better overall in the States. All of the other films weren’t really aimed at a

particular country or culture, which seems to be why they did well in most countries.

It’s a good point.

Don’t get me wrong- we LOVE our cars here in

Britain and I like the overall US Roadtrip/ Midwest theme. If the story & characters were stronger, Cars

could have been pure gold.

As you say, the themes of the movie are more beloved to Americans so you guys

could probably overlook some of the movie’s weaker aspects.

I think Toy Story probably has the most

universal appeal- after all we were all children once (some of us still are  )!

Cars !!! I’m totally obsessed with that movie!! :unamused:

About Cars being

mostly popular in the USA, I don’t know about that. I’m in Denmark and Cars is a BIG hit here! When it

premiered in the cinemas it was the most watched movie the first three weeks and it stayed in the top 10 for I

think the rest of the time it played. The toys and merchandise are stripped from the shelves the second they are

put out. It can be quite the struggle to get a hold of all the toys and merchandise I want!

My second

favourite Pixar movies are Toy Story 1 and 2 !

These three movies are not just my Pixar favourites but

my favourites of all movies!

Don’t

misunderstand- Cars was a BIG hit in the UK and even now the shops are still chocka with Cars merchandise. I

think it’s more a case of being a critical failure than a commercial one. It’s

the first time critics haven’t unanimously raved about a pixar film- a blip if you will on a hitherto flawless

record. I suspect Pixar will need a hit with Ratatooie to bounce back- especially since CG movies are now ten a

penny.

I haven’t noticed this topic and just saw it. So… here is my two cents:

My

favorite Pixar film of all time has to be Toy Story 2. I just

loved the charactars in the first one and in the second they were even better. The

plot was absolutely fantastic: I can’t seem to get bored of it, every time I watch TS2, I just walk away like,

wow, that is a great movie. I think that brings up an interesting point, that, although many people hate the

thought of pixar doing sequels, Pixar’s most popular and most successful was it’s only

sequel! So, for instance, I would love to see A Monsters Inc 2,

others may disagree, but I think Pixar knows how to do a follow-up picture and I wouldn’t worry about them

ruining the story.

Your thoughts?

I don’t really have a list of my favorite films, just more of a

class system.
(It’s a lot easier! )

Upper

Class:
The Incredibles
Toy Story 1
Toys Story 2
Monsters

Inc.

Middle

Class:
Cars

Lower

Oh yeah, and welcome
