Your Friend the Rat fan commentary - 9.12.2008

Mitch - If necessary, I’m ok with waiting until November or even later so you can be in the Ratatouille commentary. If we end up doing other commentaries in your absence, I hope you don’t miss out on very many.

Novemeber seems to be fine with me for the Rataouille commentary. Plus, all of my thankgiving week is most likely off.

Raises hand slowly, takes deep breath Alright, everyone, I’m taking the leap off the edge of my comfort zone into the great unknown (sorry for the theatrics). Count me in for this weekend’s commentary if it’s not too late with y’all!

FYI, this will be the first manifestation of my voice in the public domain of the Internet, as I have never done reviews, commentaries or any other appearances, videos, photos or otherwise. No, I don’t have a Facebook, MySpace or whatever online social networking site, so don’t bother finding me. Heck, I don’t even have MSN! :open_mouth: I only participate in this forum and Varaces, and my only creative works are on YTube (though DeviantArt and FanFiction are in the works). My online identity has remained a secret…until now. So please understand that for me, this is a very daunting experience.

Coupled with the fact that I have a crazy load of assignments this week and I haven’t even seen (although I’ve heard) of this short, and you’ve got one very nervous first-timer here. But I so much want to do the future Ratatouille movie, so I’m willing to give this a shot.

With regards to preparations, I’ve got a Skype account on XP, and a working MacBook Pro. My Mac comes with a built-in video camera and microphone, and the last time I tried conferencing with my parents was a couple of months ago, so I’ll try again to see if it still works (yes, I still talk with my parents, it’s just that they call my bro’s laptop more often, and lately my account hasn’t shown up on their screen even when I’m logged in. I’ll try calling my bro again and see if my name turns up). With regards to time, this will probably be the most insane (in a good way) weekend of the year so far, because after I clear the hurdles of my assignments on Friday, I’ll have to hustle to finish my Wall-E parody and release it on YT in time before I, yes, watch Wall-E himself in cinemas this Saturday! Opening weekend, here I come! So it’s great that this commentary has been postponed to Sunday, but I’ll still try to work off my (hopefully) supreme joy after having witnessed my most anticipated film of 2008. You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting for this…

So the only thing left for me to do is get YFTR. Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I still haven’t seen it and the only place I could view it is on YT, but you know their slider is (annoyingly :imp: ) at 5 second intervals! So I can’t get to the precise frame to synch with you guys. I’ll need a copy real fast before Sunday (1 day ahead Down Under).

Oh, and that’s a real bummer, Mitch. Although I have yet to listen to the first recording, I’m sure you would have been a great addition for a second go. Personally, I don’t see why we have do the Ratatouille commentary once. We could, like YFTR, do a first draft (as none of us has ever done a feature-length) and get Mitch in on the second (if final) one. Nobody said we can’t do a test drive. But I’m also open to waiting till November, when most of us would be more free during the winter breaks (or summer, in Oz). No rush, and think of it as delayed gratification. Anyway, whatever trouble you’re having, Mitch, I hope you can pull through and resolve it successfully.

thedriveintheatre - Welcome!

thedriveintheatre: It is never too late to join in. Welcome aboard.

Mitch - I’d be willing to wait until next month, or even November if that’s what it takes for you to be available for the Ratatouille commentary. We’ll just take things one step at a time. I hope you do get to do it.

thedriveintheatre - Yay! Another Aussie! (Even though I know you are studying here from Malaysia, you’re still an Aussie!) Welcome! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts, Andre. I can get you a better version of YFTR, if you want (PM me.)

Just to let you know, as of now (unless the time changes) it will be 7am this Sunday when you record, ok, Andre?

November is also fine with me, i guess we will do anything for Mitch to be participating with us on the Ratatouille commentary.

You guys are all so kind. I feel like a pin you guys’ sides by skipping out on the Ratatouille commentary this month… to which everyone agrees to move it a couple of months ahead. I don’t deserve it. <img src=“{SMILIES_PATH}/love2.gif” alt=“:loves:” title="In

Well, thank you very much, everyone! November is fine with me as well, at the moment, so I’m willing to wait that long until I get adjusted. In the meantime, go ahead and do any other commentary you’d like without me. I don’t wish to hold any of you up in any way, form, or fashion.

thedriveintheatre - Awesome! I’m glad that you’ll be able to make it on Sunday! And don’t worry, you’ll be fine. We were all pretty nervous the first time around, but after a few minutes we got adjusted, and the end result wasn’t too bad for a first try (in my humble opinion). I’m sure you’ll have a great time.

Ha-ha! “Delayed gratification.” That’s cute. November is fine with me, but if you and everyone else would like to do a “test” commentary on Ratatouille without me then I’m perfectly fine with it.

Thanks, dude. You all are so sweet.

– Mitch

Mitch- It just wouldn’t be right to do the Ratatouille commentary without you! And if that means leaving it for a month or two, then I can’t see any problem with that. If we’re going to do this thing, we might as well do it right.

Anyway, I agree with Rachel, this might be a blessing in disguise, as the extra time will mean that when we do do it, we’ll be very prepared.

lizardgirl - Aw, gee. Well, I feel the same way about you guys. We can’t watch The Incredibles without The Star Swordsman, and Monsters, Inc. wouldn’t be much fun to commentate on if you didn’t join in.

That’s true. The more time we have to prepare and get ourselves adjusted the better…

I ain’t worthy… hugs everyone

– Mitch

Well, I am afraid if there is a future TI commentary, I might talk too much or too little. I have a lot to say, but there are times when I try to find new things, and that usually results in silence.

Mitch - That’s ok. I was looking forward to doing the commentary with you, but I can wait. =) I’ll just put my time into other fandom stuff, or maybe organise a different commentary, in the mean time, if that’s ok with you. What movie wouldn’t be right if I didn’t join in, Mitch? Ha-ha! No, you couldn’t answer that 'cause I haven’t officially made up my mind of which is my favourite. Heheh.

TSS - You mean when you do a commentary by yourself? If you had other people to do it with you, the pressure would be off of you and there isn’t anything wrong with silence, even real commentaries have it. I’m sure you’d be a natural at participating in a The Incredibles commentary.

Well, thanks rachel. But I just wanted to let you know that I have done commentarys on TI several times before. It is just finding different things to say are whats hard for me.

Yeah, like i watched Ratatouille probably 50 times and i always manage to see something i hadn’t seen before, and i’m like, wow ! How come i didn’t see that ?

Well, over the summer, I believe I have seen Ratatouille 20-30 times total. BUt I only watch it for enjoyment, so next time I watch it, I’ll observe a few things.

Yeah well i only do that on Ratatouille, i guess you do the same thing with TI.

Well, when I watch TI Pixar.rocks, it is usually a mix between observation and enjoyment.

Exactly like me ! :stuck_out_tongue:

You do solo commentaries, TSS? Wow, do you have them in the public domain, or is this a kind of personal project thing that you’re a little too reluctant to share (I can understand the latter though, I have had started work on some fan videos, only to give up on them because I got bored, or lack of time, or because it plain didn’t work). Only my best works make it to Youtube.

50 times, Pixar.rocks? Are you kidding me? And TSS, an Incredibles fan, has watched it 20 times? I’ve only watched it a measely one time in cinemas, another time on the plane, a third time on DVD and various parts of it when I edited my Ratatouille music video. But I tend to watch films that are special to me as few times as possible, so as to not diminish my enjoyment and so I retain my good memories of them. That way, when I finally decide to pop it into the disc tray again, it will be an event I can look forward to, kind of like a treat I give myself. Besides, there’s tons of great films to explore besides Pixar, not that it’s any less significant than other animation works out there, of course!

Sorry for the long post. I just watched YFTR once in its original form and a second time on mute with your commentary playing. I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and it’s great to hear all your voices for the first time! I’ll probably post an extensive review of the first commentary, as well as the short itself, in the near future, but in a nutshell, it was awesome! Remy and Emile are so likable, and they present a very strong case for their species.

All your accents are great! If you want an inkling of mine, just watch Phua Chu Kang, a local Singaporean sitcom that’s popular on the island and in Malaysia. Some expats loved it and even brought it back to their home countries. The title character is played by a local actor called Gurmit Singh, and his trademark chuckle and dishing out of colloquial phrases (affectionately dubbed ‘Singlish’)along with frequently mispronounced words are one of the endearing aspects of the show. Singlish kinda sounds musical and ‘Chinese’, and we’re efficient when it come to getting our message across (lots of literal English translations from other languages, coupled with shortened sentences which make no grammatical sense). It’s a melange of English, Chinese dialects, Malay, and Tamil. Check out this classic PSA music video during the Asian SARS crisis, and this scene on ‘beng’ (gangster) speak (Don’t worry, no vulgarities, as PCK is shown during family hours). Granted, my accent ain’t that strong (I hope), and I’m quite adept at ‘switching’ between Singlish and English.

My voice by the way, sounds awful in my opinion. Kind of deep, like I have a frog stuck in my throat and I’m speaking through a muzzle. You’ll hear it tomorrow. :stuck_out_tongue:

thedriveintheatre: I indeed do do solo commentaries, but after I record it, I listen through it once, then delete it. I don’t put it on a file hosting site, but I could the next time. I guess the reason why I don’t put it online is because I think no one really cares.

20 ties I have seen the movie, more or less. BUt while Mitch says she has seen the movie 50 times, I think it might be way more than that.
