I think it’s technically one of their weaker films but I have very nostalgic feelings towards it. And yeah, Cars 2 is most certainly at the bottom.
Yep. Cars 2 has its flaws, but I thought the film was just average.
I don’t think Cars 2 is paticuarly bad, just, like you say, average. The worst thing is that I actually believe it was rushed and had some potential. I remember watching interviews with John Lasseter before it’s release (and yes, I did see that now infamous “Toy Story 4 is happening” interview on BBC Breakfast when it was broadcast ) and remembering how excited he was about it, and thinking that I hope the critics don’t tear him to pieces…
Every canon is going to have good and bad films though, right? Like, DreamWorks have had Shark Tale and Bee Movie, but they also did How To Train Your Dragon and Kung Fu Panda. 11 out of 12 is marvellous.
Exactly. It felt as if nobody at Pixar wanted to make a sequel to Cars. Which led to people leaving the studio during production and post production. It still should of been released this year if it were to fix problems that the story had. Even if that meant no Pixar film last year. But Pixar is human, they can make mistakes can’t they? I think the reason why the critics were a little too harsh is because they weren’t expecting this kind of thing from Pixar. Seeing how Pixar’s track record was before, I can understand why.
11 out of 12 is actually miraculous. I’m pretty proud of them.
I think A Bug’s Life is low on a lot people list not just because of the Toy Story thing, but it’s a movie about bugs. Not a lot of people like them, so they don’t wanna watch a movie about them.
Here’s my updated list:
- WALL-E
- Ratatouille
- Up
- Finding Nemo
- Toy Story 3
- Cars
- a bug’s life
- Toy Story 2
- Monsters Inc
- Toy Story
- Incredibles
- Cars 2
Didn’t you use to like Toy Story 2 better?
I’m ridiculously proud of Pixar. I always have been, and I always will be. They have an amazing track record, no matter what you say about Cars 2. Which, like Milan, I also liked.
My list is:
- Up
- Toy Story 3
- WALL-E
- Ratatouille
- Cars 2
- Toy Story 2
- Cars
- Monsters inc
- The Incredibles
- Toy Story
- Finding Nemo
- A Bug’s Life
Yep. And if Pixar can keep cookin’ up great films for the audience, I will still love them. They can still make mistakes, but I would like more successes then failures.
Disney has made more then one failed movie, and people still love them.
I’m massively proud of Pixar. People can’t write them off for one thing when they’ve achieved so much.
I 100% agree with you.
I agree with dd. People just can’t turn their back on Pixar after one misfire after what they accomplished over the years.
Yeah, and their successful movies were more than that, they were arguably masterpieces (most of them). I wonder which upcoming Pixar films will become my new favorites. While nothing really stands out except Pete Docter’s mind film (and Newt—sob), I never really knew which previous films I would love when they came out, so it could be anything. There may always be a hint of doubt and pessimism when Pixar is releasing films, especially because of the Cars movies, but I still have faith in them. Their employees are too talented to start making bad/mediocre movies all of a sudden, but that said I really would like to see some talented auteurs/directors emerge. I still get tingly with anticipation when I think of how Pixar’s number of films will continue growing… Some of those future films are bound to be masterpieces!
People thought that Pixae would never fail, so when they saw Cars 2 they were shocked and some lost faight in them. Maybe the same happened to Disney when they made their first fail movie, but soon they proved them wrong and made a good movie again. Maybe these people will be the same.
Good point, PF. I was thinking about this too: Disney released great movie after great movie when they started, and then there was WWII and financial problems and all that. But they came back in the '50s with more great films! And the cycle continued with the Renaissance and such. Pixar’s not old enough to have such a cycle yet, but I think it could happen.
Perhaps, it’s not like a keep track.
That’s a very good point you make.
