Here’s my review:
Ratatouille is now officially my
favorite Pixar film. I want to look up Brad in the phone book and say “thank you”. The voice acting
is incredible to me because of how accurate the French accents sound. One of the scenes early on that made my
eyes go wide was:
[spoil] The scene early on in the sewer system where Remy is trying to catch
up with his family but then takes a wild ride down. I read on Wikipedia that that was ten times more complex
than the blue whale scene in Finding Nemo and I believe it. The sound designer, Randy Thom, deserves extra
points for the realistic noises.[/spoil]
The fur simulation and fire elements were extremely
well done. I almost forgot that it was computer generated. The shading on the food was so realistic that it
doesn’t look at all like CG food but the actual stuff.
Now, I love comedy and I could barely restrain
myself from laughing. One guy in the theater was laughing so hard. He was probably enjoying the film more than
anybody else.
There are some great lines in the movie. One of my favorites:
[spoil]Skinner: Welcome to hell![/spoil]
And of course, I can’t forget
about Anton Ego. He was already my favorite charater long before I walked in. Peter O’Toole deserves a ton of
praise for his performance. Another one of my favorite shots:
[spoil]When he took his first
bite of ratatouille, there is this zoom in and then a flashback I believe. Once again, great sounds by Randy Thom
thrown in there.[/spoil]
The ending title sequence was very cool. Here’s a description of
it:
[spoil]It was very graphic which didn’t surprise me at all because the ending title
sequence from The Incredibles was basically the same. I loved the fancy lettering on the credits as well
although they were difficult to read at some times.[/spoil]
I tell you, I’ll probably view
this film maybe 7-8 times in the theater when it goes into wide release. There is no dought in my mind that this
is one of Pixar’s best films to date. It’s that good. Thank you to John Lasseter and the entire Pixar team
for giving us this masterpiece.
