Are you excited for the sequel?

After watching the released trailer and the extra scenes i am starting to like cars 2 although time will tell whether or not the entire franchise of cars is scarred just because of the not-as-great storyline. I think Cars 2 will be better for storyline features and mini-plots but still the overall feeling of Cars will never change after the 1st one. Cars is still more about merchandise than anything else at this point. (although the short stories were great)

I would say my anticipation is rising but my hopes are not. It still has the same Cars feel that i had for the first one but with more experience at this point.

Um,that dosen’t make any sense. Why would they make a sequel of merchindise only?

I defintely agree. Pixar movies are made to make money of course, as well as to create jobs and the directors artistic needs. Sure, making money off of the merchandise is a great side prize, but It’s not the only reason the movie is being made, I’m certain.

What i mean by my post is this;

The movie cars was good…at its best good. The movie was average with some plus of it being Pixar and having great music with enjoyable characters. For a Pixar film it was average, for a film in general it was good. It all depends on what you compare it too…if you compare it to the generic Dreamworks (no offense) movies it is superb. But when you compare it to The Incredibles or even Ratatouille it fails…it just does.

To be honest my family has more Cars merchandise than any other Pixar film…ever. The young siblings like the film but they love their cars…they just do. The cars franchise would be a blockbuster for Dreamworks…but for Pixar the best part of it has to be the merchandise…and John Lasseter has to be loving that.

Now i’m not saying this to bash cars or make it seem worthless…i’m just saying Cars 2 has a lot to live up to and with the new spy feel it isn’t going to attract the same age group. Not saying that’s bad thing; i think its good. But this movie needs to find its own identity in something other then being “Cars”…if you catch what i mean.

I appreciate your opinion, but there’s nothing wrong with merchindise,Toy Story has a lot of merchindise and yet no one’s complaining…so you can continue to believe what you want to believe, but it makes no sense to say this is all about merchindise…

Merchandise has nothing to do with the quality of the film itself.

absolutely…Merchandise has nothing…Cars 2 should be another great film by Pixar…and they will love the added income through merchandise that spawns from it.

Ok,keep telling yourself that…

Merchandising is associated with every movie. So why are we going on about it? eje is 100% correct. I am very excited for the film myself.

Why thank you! I’m excited for the film as well.

I was in the line of yes and so-so. I excited for it but not as much as I was for Toy Story 3.

What?! Comming from a Pixarteer?! Haha…just kiddin… :stuck_out_tongue: 8D Actually I agree with you though…

I’m excited because it’s the sequel to my favourite movie. I mean what are the chances that they would make a sequel to your favourite movie? Not as often as you would think. I got lucky!

I think it’s because I was like 5 when I first saw Toy Story, I was 15 when I first saw Cars. A 10 year old is probably more excited for Cars 2 then they were for Toy Story 3 because they grew up with Cars.

Yeah same here. I was also more excited for Princess and the Frog and Rio. But Cars 2 not so much. I’m still anxious to see it!

Very true. Plus now Pixar has the chance to catch the new generation of little kids and get them hooked on Cars too. 8D

As much as I adore Pixar, the sequel’s going to turn me off. I mean, it sounds like a Disney thing to plug sequels for merchandise, and the whole thing sounds stupid.

Well how do you know this is entirely for merchandise?

Cars is a cash-cow…who knows what they’ll do?

Again,it does not make sense to say this is all about merchindise…
