The neon signs say:
ピクサー 自動車道 Pixar automobile road
頭痛薬 headache medicine
ガレージ garage
危険危険 danger danger
速い fast
These are all fine and interesting and belong in the short.
夜間逆火鎮静剤 RPM night time reverse fire sedative RPM. I’m sure this is Chinese but since this is a surreal short than it’s ok for me. Also, Japanese people genarally do not make a fuss. aintitcool.com/images2008/CarsTokyo2.jpg
On the left side of the picture there is a rainbow car with yellow stars looks like Kirarin Revolution. I don’t know much about Kirarin Revolution. It was after my time. comingsoon.net/imageGallery/ … ater_2.jpg
I’m still liking Lightning better in this short. I mean, just look at him; he’s drifting. Someone tell me that isn’t a reference to Fast And The Furious.
Nice pics Wboon and Rey! And I can’t wait for Tokyo Mater! I’ve seen all three shorts now, and I’ll be posting them up on my channel soon! I’ll do an in-depth review for the remaining two later.
Did anyone who saw Bolt after December 12th saw Tokyo Mater? I really hope it shows when I see Bolt in theatres (hopefully).
I saw some of the Cars shorts last week during ABC Fam’s showing of Polar Express. I gotta admit, they were pretty amusing! I liked the fire rescue Mater one best. And I liked how at the end of each one Mater was like [spoil] Dont you remember? You was there too[/spoil] I really wanna see Tokyo Mater now but I’m not gonna be going to see Bolt anytime soon.
I just came back from seeing Bolt again with Tokyo Mater attached in 3D. It. was. AWESOME!
Tokyo Mater has it all, it’s my favorite Cars Toon yet!
I highly recommend watching it, it’s worth the ticket.
I will reserve spoilers until later…
Anyone else experience Mater’s drift-racing adventure in Japan?
So, who’s seen Tokyo Mater? I know I have, twice, but nobody seems to be posting about it. If you’ve seen the short, post what you thought about it, if you haven’t, go out and see this great short already!
P.S. I do realize international audiences are unable to watch it yet but when you can, do it.
I’ve narrowed down two female Japanese singers, who can sing both English and Japanese, in Tokyo Mater. They sing something like jikan mo drivin’ drivin’ wasurete pumpin’ pumpin’ hajikete jumpin’ jumpin’ sugar lovin’ brass lights.Jikan mo wasurete, hajikete means just forget the time, have fun. I’ll wait for the official announcement.
I saw the short in theaters. It was kind of dumb, but I did notice two Pixar references.
[spoil]Mike and Sulley are in a Japanese restaurant at one point, and there’s a sign advertising “lug nuts in a cup” from Buy N Large at one point.[/spoil]
[spoil]i saw mike and sully too and i think its funny how in the movie mike and sully go to a japanese restaurant and now its cars that go to this restaurant .[/spoil]
What did you guys expect, Tokyo Mater was a complete parody and the purposeful cornyness made it! I think this was Pixar’s perfect opportunity to go with that type of humor, and you gotta admit it was funny and action packed!
i do admit it was funny and action packed and that is one out of many things i like about pixar.
The thing was [ now i know this was a short] it was too short and choppy.
I mean first maters walking then he sees i guy that has to go to tokyo out of the blue i thought it was too quick for the eye to see if you know what i mean.
The dumb thing was…[spoil] when mater was looking around and then slightly touched a guys car and then gets mad is not a good reason for a big race [/spoil]
I think the fact that Mater’s tale goes on so quickly besides it being a short film is that it’s Mater’s Tall Tales, which means it could be true or false and we don’t know how much of this is real of not. And with Mater’s imagination, an alien could’ve popped out of nowhere and it would’ve made sense.
Another thing that made it funny was that Kabuto (the Japanese drift racer) [spoil]could get offended so easily, remember it’s all exagerated, and Kabuto is THE drift king (nobody messes with him, thus he started a race which looks awesome in 3D.)[/spoil]
When you use this type of humor you can’t expect an Academy Award performance, but just a ridiculously funny short, and I think Mater’s imagination (or was this all real…) is the perfect place to go with that and Pixar took the opportunity and ran with it,
I found Tokyo Mater on Youtube. Watch it while you can. Sorry, it’s in Italian I think, but for some people in Japan, that’s good enough you know. American muscle Mater cars are the best! The ending credit song is not Japanese. youtube.com/watch?v=bAVO-WZ_ … r_embedded
Does Someone have a list of all the “Mater Tall Tales” Cause I’m getting confused as to how many there are…
Here’s the Ones I’ve seen… but I keep feeling like I’m missing ones
Rescue Quad Mater: Mater as [spoil]Firetruck[/spoil] and [spoil]Doctor[/spoil]
The Matordor: Mater as a [spoil]Matador [/spoil]
Mater the Greater: Mater as a [spoil]Stunt Driver[/spoil]
Tokyo Mater: Mater [spoil]Made of Anything But Stock[/spoil]
