DreamWorks Animation announces official 2010-2012 projects

Aw crud. Why don’t they just change the studio name to “Pixar’s Lesser Half?”

Eh, I’ve got to admit, Kung fu Panda sequel might not have a great name, but let’s hope it does shape up to be a worthwhile sequel. (although with Dreamworks I’m not sure it will be.)

But I loved the first Kung Fu Panda, definitely one of Dreamworks best, and wow, the music! The music was fantastic! And it had a great story, and lasting characters! (Not because of celebrity voice actors…) I mean, Pixar still rules all, but Dreamworks has definitely stepped up.

Although, with several Shrek sequels and spinoffs coming out, they may have stepped down… Seriously, they need to let Shrek go… The third one ended and tied up most of the loose ends that we don’t NEED another one. Come to think of it, the first Shrek was good enough, why must they keep milking past success!

As for the other movies coming out, I don’t know. At this point, I’m rather confused if any of them will be worth seeing. I guess I’ll have to see from trailers and such but after seeing Up, Dreamworks has a lot of work to do if they want to draw me in.

Just Recently watched both Kung Fu Panda and Monsters Vs Aliens, and I loved both, I actually loved MVA so much I bought the art book for it. Maybe I was wrong about Dreamworks, They seem to be on the rise with quality. Saying that, Shrek will be terrible and Oobermind doesn’t sound very appealing.

I will say one thing though, It is not fair to criticise Dreamworks for their ideas. People constantly say they are ripping off disney, sure maybe they done it with Shark Tale, but Pixar are not the only studio allowed to make films about Superheroes for goodness sakes, to say Oobermind is a copy is ridiculous. Release 5 years afterwards and still labelled a copycat film. NO
The plot is totally friggan different, as was the story for Antz and Shark Tale. Pixar most likely Started production of their films before Dreamworks, but it is impossible for dreamwoeks to know what Pixar are working on, Which makes me think it all just coincidence. Oh and people, Antz was released BEFORE A Bugs Life.

exactly, Dreamworks execs rushed the production of Antz so it would be released before A Bug’s Life the same thing happened with Madagascar. Dreamworks rushed it so that it would come out before The Wild. Thus, making the Disney/Pixar films look like the copies.

Henceforth, Antz was produced after Dreamworks Animation had heard of A Bug’s Life and Madagascar after The Wild.

Pixar never used to announce their films till late on, maybe a year and a half before release, and impossible ammount of time to get a film planned and completed, you’d spend nearly a third of the year getting a cast assembled.

I don’t think Dreamworks intend to copy pixar, they are afterall artists like pixar, Just not as good. :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe true, but it’s an undeniable possibility that The Wild was ripped off. The movie took around 6 to 8 years to be made - due to the lack of technology or something - and there are too many similarities between the two films to be considered as a coincidence. The movie received poor reviews for this, making Disney suffer a backlash.

Maybe now we know why Disney films are crappy nowadays.

thedriveintheatre and lizardgirl - Bah, you guys just don’t appreciate that type of crude humor. Heheh.

I see where both of you guys are coming from, though. Everyone has different tastes. I just happen to like pretty much any kind of humor, although I’ll admit that I’m more fond of slapstick antics, potty jokes, stupid one-liners, and physical comedy than refined humor. For example, if I wanted to laugh (and laugh hard) I’d pop in Space Balls and not Ratatouille. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve seen these films from this company:

Shrek: I enjoyed it. My family love it, I’m the only who thinks it’s overrated.
Shrek 2: I enjoyed it.
Antz: I loved it at the time, now I barely remember anything. Great soundtrack.
Spirit: very boring. Fail.
Simbad: very boring. Fail.
Shrek 3: boring. Fail.
Madagascar: crap. Fail.

I’m NOT looking forward for what they do to gain $$$ in the future

Ugh. I know what you mean. My family raves over Shrek. I thought it was pretty good, especially the music, but really…does it deserve ALL the attention that it’s gotten?

I’m actually looking forward to the Kung Fu Panda sequel. I really enjoyed the first one, a lot more than I thought I would, and I’m hoping the sequel at least lives up to the first, if it’s not better.

I can’t really say I care for any of the other ones. Shrek generally warrants laughs from me, but it never really struck the right chords with me. =/

As for other Dreamsworks movies in the past, I enjoyed Over the Hedge, as things that satire the human norm generally go over very well for me.

Bee Movie was okay…same with Madagascar. Never bothered watching the Madagascar sequel.

I’m actually looking forward to the ghost film. It’s by the same director as Lilo& Stitch. I just hope Dreamworks doesn’t hold back his creativity…

Apparently Dreamworks is also planning a movie based on the View-Master. Yes, as in the toy.

news-briefs.ew.com/2009/07/dream … r-toy.html

The Viewmaster? I had one of those…do they even market those still? o.o (Rhetorical, I’m sure they do somewhere)

I’m really curious to see how they’d make a film on that…yet…at the same time, I’m not actually that curious, if that makes sense.

Basically, you’re wondering how the heck they’re going to make this toy have a plot that won’t be completely silly.

But you’re not curious enough to get excited about the idea of a Viewmaster movie

I’ve already posted my comments on all the other films Dreamworks ripped off of Pixar in this thread, so just look at my other comments in this thread. But seriously? A movie about the veiwmaster?!! That’s a rip-off of Toy Story!!! 0_o :frowning: :frowning:

i cant believe they are making a madagascar sequel. i wonder how that will go

And this is why I love Pixar so much. I can’t stand how Dreamworks takes the good movies they make and goes on to make countless sequels for them. Like Shrek for example… the first two were great… third one was… “ugh”. I love those movies, but …

God Of Christ …STOP MAKING SEQUELS D:

I also recently found out that they are making squeals to Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda. On top of that supposedly they are making a Shrek , Kung Fu Panda and Monsters vs Aliens tv series.

I hate how Dreamworks takes a movie they make that is awesome… then just makes sequel after sequel; tv series after tv series… till it finally burns to the ground. :frowning:

Sometimes when I think about it… I pray that Pixar never ends up the same way, but I remember that they never make a movie unless they know the story, characters, etc will be great. I just hope it stays that way.

I heard today that MvA is sitting on the bubble to be made into a sequel because it did well in some countries and horrid in others.

I put money down that we’ll see a MvA sequel in the coming future.

And with it, the possibility of a spin-off show on Nick featuring Bob.

I kid, of course, but it could happen.
