There’s still Gnomeo & Juliet (which I am really looking forward too even though it really reminds me of Toy Story) and this movie called Animals United.
The plot of Animals United:
The world’s animals unite to force humans to disarm and make peace (based on a book called Die Konferenz der Tiere by Erich Kastner)
Oh it’s getting an international release next year? I actually saw the original teaser a while back, it looks pretty good in the beginning, until that meerkat pops up at the end and ruins it. I’m very interested to watch this to see how German animators are doing.
Gnomeo & Juliet’s trailer had too many awkward pauses and strange jokes to endear me much, but at least it’s got Sir Elton John behind the music…
I suppose since they’ve already used the tagline ‘Year of the Panda’, they have to go with an intangible concept. I did like the bit at the end with [spoil]Tigress correcting Po.[/spoil]
By the way, according to the Chinese Zodiac, this year’s the Year of the Rabbit. I predict Hop will be marketed in such a manner in Asian markets.
A difference however will be that Po is working with them from the beginning and we’ll probably see more of their friendship and how Po works in an actual team on the field more, plus Po’s past is apparently important in a more obvious way. Plus if it talks about removing Kung Fu it will possibly be either an exploration into some other way to fight or solve their problems. I mean the Furious Five will have depended on their craft all their lives. Maybe Po can teach them something extra. Plus they’ll be travelling across China rather than in one place which will be fairly interesting.
Plus of course in the original movie ‘there is no special ingredient’ was the thing- the sought after artifact really wasn’t anything special, except in what it was trying to say in a way. That the only aspect that was the most important thing in mastering Kung Fu (and by extension anything) was you. This artifact apparently actually does something rather than simply be a metaphor.
This does sound strange though, it almost reverses that aspect of the first- by taking away Kung Fu by force perhaps no matter how hard you try, but then it could be almost saying that Kung Fu isn’t everything either and to be prepared and look into other methods a little less tried and worn too. To add to your knowledge from various areas.
I mean they could learn a DIFFERENT martial art after all. Or something else entirely.
Though if the artifact does nothing and it’s just a legend it will be a bit strange. But it KIND of sounds like it really does this and has some ‘mystical’ power unlike in the first.
Yeah, I’m kind of curious to see the full trailer as well. As of now I don’t really plan to see this movie, there are so many movies in 2011 I want to see and I don’t have that much spending money with a trip to New York coming up. As much as I like the original Kung Fu Panda, so many other movies in 2011 sound more interesting than this sequel.
Great thoughts, mentalguru. Much like Cars 2 is a reversal of Cars (Lightning was the fish-out-of-the-water in a small-town in the first, Mater will now be pushing his geographic and cultural boundaries in the second), I think it’s interesting how KFP2 is a mirror image of KFP1’s themes.
Until I see a trailer, I can’t say I’m over-the-moon excited (Hurr… hurr… over Dreamworks’ crescent moon with the little kid fishing from it, that is).
I suppose the team will learn less aggressive means of conflict-resolution. Conversation, not confrontation, young grasshoppers!
I can’t wait for Kung Fu Panda 2 I just love the first Kung Fu Panda, so I hope the second film is just as good. Has any trailers or anything been released yet?? x
But yes, I too enjoyed the first one, so hopefully the second will be as good. That remains to be seen of course but I’m interested in the possibilities it could have!
Wow, Dreamworks is now getting very clever with its ‘covert advertising’ (read: viral marketing). Go straight to the ‘gatekeepers’ (read: opinion-shapers) with freebies…
Where can I get one? The jiaozi recipe sounds delicious!
I’m kinda disappointed that they’re plugging a lot of teaser material, but hardly unveiling any of the new characters or plotlines (unlike Cars 2, which has been more ‘generous’ with its revelations). Can we see less of Po in the same pose and more of the other new characters, please?
You’ll never guess what animal it is (but if you want to find out, just check out the Wiki). He’s voiced by an actor who has played some of my favourite screen characters (Air Force One, Batman reboot, and the Harry Potter series).
If by female panda, you mean as a love interest, then it could be possible, although a lot of fanshippers like to pair Po and Tigress together. I’m a Crane x Viper supporter, though I have yet to find any empirical evidence of romantic developments in the first movie- hopefully there’s more in the second.
