Kung Fu Panda 2

Huge fan of the original movie as it was Dreamwork’s best CGI movie since the first 2 Shreks and Antz. The sequel might surpass the original.

I completely agree with you.

Before this I didn’t really have any expectations for this movie. However, now I think it has a lot of potential and I’m pretty excited for it; I think it looks 10 times better than Cars 2, in my opinion. Although the trailer does step into the “typical Dreamworks territory” with the tone and music, so did the trailers for the first KFP and HTTYD. Either way, it seems like there are some interesting ideas going for it, and according to this article that floated around the Internet the other day, it may have a lot of dramatic depth.
The main thing that caught me about the trailer, though, was the visuals. This is arguably Dreamworks’s best looking movie yet, in my opinion. The colors, lighting, set design, etc. all look incredible and even very bold when compared to other major CG animation. The animation is top notch too, of course.

I wasn’t huge on the first movie, but I’m definitely looking forward to this one. Dreamworks has been moving down a nice path lately.

I agree with you on the visuals in this, the whole movie looks a ton better than the first one.

I am somewhat satisfied by the latest trailer, thought not entirely over the moon (unintentional Dreamworks logo reference) yet.

The production values are excellent, and the scale of the setpieces seem larger and more audacious than ever before. The fireworks sequence reminded me a bit of Mulan’s finale, but I suspect this alone will be just one of the many action sequences in KFP2. I am getting annoyed by how Po seems unfazed by all the dangers and seems to be whooping and one-lining his way through obstacles. Part of the appeal of the first movie was how daunted (though mostly optimistic) he seems by the challenges, but here he comes off as overconfident and practically fearless.

Lord Shen certainly looks like a fantastic villain from his pose at 0:42 and single-minded destruction of the previous Masters. This guy means business, he’s more in the league of Syndrome and Dr Facilier, than say, Rumplestiltskin or The Green Eyed Man. At least, from first impressions. I’m certainly looking forward to Gary Oldman’s portrayal, and I hope he’s a formidable villain and not played for laughs simply because he’s not a kick-*ss species like a leopard or anything.

The plot reminds me a bit of ‘At World’s End’ from POTC. It’s the end of the golden age of Kung Fu (well, that’s how I perceived Master Shifu’s exposition), and Po, the Furious Five, and other Kung Fu Masters from “all corners of the Earth must stand together”, in the immortal words of Geoffrey Rush.

I’m interested to see how they explore Po’s backstory, and the whole deal of 3D enhancing the emotional scenes. If it approached anything of the majesty of Dragon’s moments, I’ll be pleased.

So far, lots of potential. I’m just really annoyed the trailer producers had to go with a Black Eyed Peas number, which in itself is a remix of another song. Why couldn’t they have picked something like this, this, or h**l, even this?

I wasn’t actually that bothered by the music. It doesn’t seem appropriate for a movie taking place in China (?) but meh, it worked in this case I suppose.

Anyway, it’s a job well done. They (quite epicly) introduced the (simplified) plot of the movie without giving away too much and threw in some appropriate action and funny sequences. The movie itself remains a mystery that will only unfold if you go see it.

So yeah, I’m not worried at all and I’m still expecting a great and worthy sequel to the first KFP I learned to love.

That’s it.

I’m weirdly looking forward to this. The first KF-P was good, so lets hope this lives up to it

I personally think this one will be better than the original.

Yeah, I wasn’t really that into the original, though I loved the Samurai Jack-esque 2D opening. This trailer has convinced me to give this one a chance, it honestly looks like a vast improvement over the first.

I really liked the first one. I mean, it wasn’t like Toy story or anything like that, but it was much better than most Dream Works movies. I liked it much better than Shrek, personally. But either way, I agree, this one looks much better.

I like Shrek better, but that’s just nostalgia talking really.

I understand that. I just never really liked the first Shrek for some reason. I mean, my mom took me to see it, and I can’t even say how much I didn’t pay attention to it. I wanted to see Monsters, Inc. because the banner said “From the creators of Toy Story.” :stuck_out_tongue: And now, knowing what Shrek’s actual purpose was, I resent the entire series, sequels, spin-offs, and all. I found Kung Fu Panda enjoyable, nice, pop-culture less enough, and I just loved every minute(ecxcept the ending).

I vaguely remember seeing Shrek in theaters, and I really liked it. I saw Monsters Inc too, because of the same “from the makers of Toy Story” thing. I enjoyed both, but now I’d say Monsters has held up better over time. And the Shrek sequels were all bad, yet I can’t wait for MI2.

And yeah, the ending of KFP was pretty lame. Maybe KFP2 will rectify that.

Haha, I remember my mum thinking that Shrek looked unsuitable so she took us to see Monsters, Inc. instead.
Andyeah, the ending was pretty rubbish. But a rubbish ending isn’t such a big deal on the scale of things.

I agree. I wanted a KFP sequel, because of the ridiculous ending. I wanted emotional fulfillment, and instead, we got another fat panda wants food joke. Not cool.

And I agree, MI has held up better, because it didn’t have as many pop-culture jokes. :unamused:

I think the same can be said about ABL against Antz, aswell as Finding Nemo against Shark Tale.

Shrek, for me, is too recent to be counted as ‘nostalgic’. Also, I personally don’t think this KFP will be better than the original. Could some people that didn’t like the first one here clarify this here for me please? Because I seriously don’t get why. XD But that could just be me…

Either way, I don’t think it will beat the 2008 feature, but will still be awesome nonetheless.

I was 5 when I saw Shrek so it counts as a movie from my early childhood. And did you see the new trailer that was just posted? I think it was on the last page or so, that is what convinced me to give this movie a chance, mostly because it visually looks good. I didn’t even watch the trailer with sound, so I didn’t have to listen to the jokes.

I think the sequel to Kung Fu Panda is gonna be better than the first. Hey, it has a skunk, crocodile, and evil peafowl, c’mon!

My friend is letting me borrow Kung Fu Panda on DVD. Maybe after watching it, I’ll be more excited for the sequel.
