Movies - both new and old

KICK ASS ROCKS!!!

I just came from the theater, I already watched Kung Fu Panda 2, soon my thoughts on the KFP2 thread

PS: Why does the KFP2 thread is still named Kaboom of Doom, moderators please fix it

Time Machine: B: This movie was pretty good. I remembered it being better, but it was pretty good.

The Aviator: A+: This movie is awesome! Leonardo DiCaprio was great in it, and so were Kate Beckinsale and Cate Blanchett. I especially loved the score.

I agree, I love that movie!

I saw the Addams Fmaily Values yesterday. I love the Addams Family. I can’t beleive I wasn’t introduced to this movie as a kid. I guess I was afraid of the Addams Family. But now, I find them very funny and legendary.

So, I’m thinking about watching the movie Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence pretty soon. Anyone else heard of it?

No, I’ve never heard of it before.

Fantastic Mr. Fox: B: Well, watching this with my family was terrible. :stuck_out_tongue: My siblings wouldn’t shut up for 5 seconds, and my mom hated the movie, and insisted on repeating said fact through the movie’s run time. My dad went down stairs and wrote papers instead of watching. But, I really liked it. Most of the humor didn’t appeal to me, but I did like the [spoil]what the cuss?[/spoil] joke that was repeated through the film. My favorite part was Mr. Fox’s [spoil]toast to his family in the store[/spoil]. So sweet! Great voice acting, and I’ll watch it again, by myself.

Disgrace:C: Well, this movie really confused me. I couldn’t tell if we were supposed to like the protagonist or not. I sympathized with him(it’s John Malkovich, for Pete’s sake) and even liked him, but he [spoil]raped a student and slept with a hooker, which I suppose were supposed to be offensive. I didn’t care that he was with a hooker, as he wasn’t married, and the whole story on his part was about how he learned why rape is bad and felt bad for it.[/spoil]

Lions for Lambs:C: I didn’t get this movie at all. Meryl Streep is a fantastic actress, and it shows, but this movie left me very confused.

Aww, shame your family couldn’t enjoy it with you! I can understand why some of the humour isn’t to your tastes, I kinda felt the same way, but I liked it. It’s interesting, and I love Roald Dahl

Yeah. I liked the movie, though.

Titan AE: F: Well, this was just terrible!! I don’t know why I thought it would be good. :open_mouth:

Holy Rollers: I never heard of this independent film before. It stars Jesse Eisenberg as an Orthodox Jew in New York City. Hhe ends up joining the Isreali Drug Cartel selling what he believes is 'medicine for rich people". Eventually he learns the truth and adapts to his new life of crime while has family disowns him. Based on a true story. I loved the ending. I give it a B

As I’ve mentioned several times throughout the forum and other social media, I’m really excited to see the Australian premire of Kung Fu Panda 2 ten days from now! I bought a ticket and I’ll be going with one of my close friends (he’s an animation geek like I am). A star-studded line-up of Jack Black, Lucy Liu, Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Jeffrey Katzenberg will be in attendance to grace the occassion, and I am so excited to see them in-person! My unversity magzine hasn’t gotten back to me about whether they’ve secured me the interview, even after I sent them a follow-up later two days ago, but even if I don’t get the gig, I’m still pretty pumped to be able to see the cast and producers in the flesh! Hopefully I’ll be able to take some pics to share with y’all!

I’m also interested to see X-Men: First Class after the rave reviews. It’s a ‘back-to-basics’ plot, and I’m really eager to see the story of Charles and Eric’s friendship (and how they ultimately turned into each other’s worst enemies). And Mystique! Ah, my favourite sexy villainess gets her own origin story!

Speaking of Eisenberg, I’m also looking forward to ‘30 Minutes or Less’, a comedy-thriller starring the Rio/Social Network star and Aziz Ansari (Flight of the Conchords, Reno 911!) as two hapless slackers who are forced by monkey mask-wearing criminals into robbing a bank. It has a very hilarious ‘Pineapple Express’/‘Superbad’ feel about it, and the most remarkable thing is that is based on a real-life story (although the actual incident ended in a mysetriously tragic outcome).

Rio: B
Surprise! I got the rare opportunity to go see a movie in theaters! :astonished:
Anyway, I liked it.
I rolled my eyes at quite a few of the jokes, but it had a sweet story, and I really liked the music. I’m glad I got to see it in the theater, the animation was very nice. I think it might be worth watching it again when it’s out on DVD.

I couldn’t go today, but I’m so excited, I’ll see X-Men First Class tomorrow,

That. Sounds. Awesome! Both of those things. I’m seeing KFP 2 tonight. as for 30 Minutes or Less, I want to see it! You had me at Eisenburg and Ansari (I’m a fan of both FoC and Reno 911).

K9Girl: I’m so glad you saw Rio! Yes, it’s very cheesy and sentimental at times, but I love those kind of movies more than snarky or cynical ones (although there are exceptions, of course). And Rio is so sweet throughout, it might just give you dental caries! <3

EJE: I’m so excited for you. Do let me know how KFP2 goes, I’m seeing it in 9 days time and I can’t wait!

bryanbmp: Do let me know it goes, I’m thinking of seeing X-Men: First Class if my friends are up for it.

I had a feeling you’d say that! I haven’t watched FoC, but I like watching Reno 911 if I’m up late at night. It’s such a silly ‘COPS’-style mockumentary to put your mind on ‘cruise control’ (I think the actors ad-lib half the time!).

Here’s the Apple Trailer for ‘30 Minutes or Less’. One of the best trailers of the year, tells the outrageous premise brilliantly; doesn’t give away too much of the plot, and features a catchy remix of a Johnny Cash classic. There’s also a redband trailer on Youtube that’s funnier, but I can’t post it here for a family-friendly forum.

Thanks! I know that you’ll love it! I liked it better than the first. I wrote a review on the KFP 2 page. I hope you read it! After the movie of course, it’s full of spoilers.

Since we’re 6 months into 2011, here’s my ranking of the films I’ve seen so far, in theatres. I didn’t walk out of a theatre disapoitned, so even the film on the bottom was still fantastic!

  1. Rio
  2. Rango
  3. The Hangover: Part II
  4. Kung Fu Panda 2
  5. Pirates of the Carribean
  6. Fast Five

For fans of Batman and movie fans in general.

Don’t know what to make of it, other than it looks ok I guess, reminds me of 3 years ago.

^NO!!! :`-(

Will it ever end?

The Money Pit: F: This movie had its funny parts, I give it that. But Shelley Long was terrible, it was stupid, and this is the only Tom Hanks movie I’ve ever been disappointed with.

The Ghost Writer: F: Well, this was pointless. I expected something great, and it was just another conspiracy theory movie.

I think you’re overreacting. This is barely the third movie (and es, it will end there).

Besides, most people disagree with you and think those are terrific films.

Thanks for the links, Pixarinho! I saw the campaign in the morning.

I know they’re good, and I’ve never tried to argue that. I just hate them so much.
