Movies - both new and old

It’s a shame that one of the things that makes that show so amazing, is what’s keeping it from season DVD releases.

28 Days Later I am so glad I’m a different person now, than I was 7 or 8 years ago when I first watched this movie. Back then I tried to watch it, but I was bored and stopped about 30 minutes into it. I was expecting a horror movie back then. My love for Danny Boyle’s films is what made me watch it again, and I’m glad I did. His films are always so exciting to watch because of his camera work, use of music and lighing. And this was no exception. It was very atmospheric and full of suspense. And I loved the music so much I bought the soundtrack! I’ve always found Cillian Murphy’s eye’s creepy in certain lighting, and there were a lot of those moments in this movie! 8D

Frida- This movie is a biography of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. The movie tells how her physical and mental pains inspired her artwork, as well as her relationships with her husband, Communist leader Trotskey, and her affairs with various men and women.

A film that is colorful and beautiful to watch, and very informational. I give it a B.

Modern Times- This is my second favorite Charlie Chaplin movie, and his last silent movie. It is a hilarious movie, as well as a touching look into the industrial lives of the poor in the 1930s. I give it an A.

I saw this movie last Saturday and I loved it. I’m a fan of her work. Some of it has given me chills. But there were some scenes that were jarring to me. The surgery scene that looked like something from a Tim Burton movie being the main one.

I recorded it last Saturday! I’ve never been a huge fan of her work, but this movie has given me a bigger appriciation of it, and now I’ve been looking more into her art. And I thought of Tim Burton also at that scene!

Ugh, no. I do not like her. I meant Craig T. Nelson.

Pans Labrynth: This is a beautiful and chilling movie to watch. I loved that it was in Spanish! It was very violent, so I got a tad queezy, but overall the story was interesting and unique. A mixture of history and fantasy. I give it a B.

Aw, you saw Frida? I didn’t see your review before. I love it. I remember I watched it at 2 AM, and was like “Wha???” and rewatched the next day. I loved it. I love biographies.

Saw Titanic yesterday.

Haha, yeah it did get pretty trippy! It made me appriciate her artwork more, she was a very brave and unique woman for 1930s Mexico!

I watched Teen Titans, Trouble in Tokyo with my brother. We’re both fans of the Teen Titans animated series, and it’s a enjoyable movie.

I saw loads of movies, so no in depth reviews:

Captain America: Next to Spiderman 2, this has got to be my favorite Marvel movie ever. The acting is perfect, and by this point Chris Evans has become one of my favorite actors. The sets and effects are brilliant, and what I love most about them is that they aren’t used for annoying usage of CGI, they are used wisely and effectively. Expect a Visual Effects Oscar nom for sure. Simply the character of Captain America is one of my favorite superheros, because I think we can all see ourselves in the role. This film is, dare I say, beautiful, and definitely one of the most creative movies in recent years. Plus the after-credits scene has been my favorite film moment of 2011. A

Cowboys and Aliens: Don’t listen to the critics, this film has got to be one of the most fun movies of the year. The acting and direction is thoroughly enjoyable, and the effects are interesting. It can be funny, scary, and action-packed whenever it pleases. Sure some parts of the story are simply stupid, but if you treat the film more as a tribute to 50s B movies than a serious sci-fi/western, I’m sure you can enjoy yourself too. B+

Kung Fu Panda 2: I love everything about this movie. The score is immersive, the animation is beautiful, and the story is effectively dramatic. There were a few parts were I simply had to say outloud, Wow. By this point all the characters have been realized enough to were I love them all. The opening fight scene, and how it relies entirely on music is a feat that must be seen to be believed. Sure the dark-for-the-sake-of-being-dark attitude and somewhat hinted at shipping between two major characters makes it seem more like a fanfic than a Dreamworks sequel, but it sure is a dang good fanfic, and much better than the original. When the teaser for this came out, I was so angry I wrote an essay on it and concluded I wasn’t looking forward to the film. Yeah…I feel pretty dumb now. Without a doubt my favorite Dreamworks film and favorite film of 2011 so far. A

Brazil: Sure I already saw this film, and talk about it a lot anyway, but I just bought the DVD and watched it for the second time. IT GETS BETTER! On a second watch, it’s as if it’s a completely different film (in a good way), and if you still haven’t seen this movie, I feel sorry for you. A+

Fright Night (1985): I haven’t seen the remake, but the original is one of the most entertaining horror films I’ve seen. I love how it plays tribute to the classics, I love the over-the-top yet high quality effects, I love the credits song of the same name, I love how it made me laugh out loud and jump in my seat within a scene change, and heck, I love Peter Vincent. At times it can be unusually sad, but if you’re mature enough I’d say give it a watch. I love it because I’m a huge horror fan, but you may like it on its own merits. B+

Transformers 3: Transformers 3 can be summarized by one expression: facepalm. D

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Very good casting. Extraordinary special effects. Good to superb acting. Excellent action sequences, and yes, the bridge scene. Where did it slip? In the Story, dummy!

Ok, overall I still rate this a very worthy film to go see, and give it a Very Good. But the Sci-Fi is all wet! And this is the genre of this film. This stuff is just not biologically possible no matter what you load in that virus, and the time frames are like overnite, which is absurdly brief.

Now for consistency with the Planet of the Apes story. First, you will have to have seen at least a couple of the 5 original movies, especially the first one and then any other. It’s a very good idea to go to a video parlor and get whatever you can of these. The first two are excellent movies, even for today’s discriminating tastes. There is the whole dvd set which you can buy online for like 30 bucks, and it includes a 6th movie, which tells you how the movie was made, its place in history (really it was that influential!), makeup, budgets, interviews 30 years on, etc… I saw all 6 just a week before Rise of…and that sure was the way to go.

So, you have to ask yourself what were the screenwriters trying to do back in 1970 with this series? The overall idea is to show us that truth gets short shrift and that both humans and apes can be quite hypocritical, with self righteous robes merely changing the species underneath. That we may destroy ourselves by repeating history and it could be due to racial or even inter-species tensions.

This restart of the series hasn’t really addressed most of these points, so far anyways, so I would give it a chance. I personally like the way the story progressed, despite its sci-fi failings, even tho it didn’t really break new ground with the critical self righteous aspect.

Has anyone seen The Amazing Spider-Man trailer?

Yea I saw it when I watched Captain America It looked good.

This is an excellent review of the movie! It’s exactly how I felt about it. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Lilo and Stitch: I didn’t get to see all of the movie, although, as I saw it some 9-ish years ago, I can vaguely make out the beginning. I thought it was pretty good, nice visuals, humor and setup. Although somehow, unlike most other Disney movies, I didn’t feel that much of an attachment to the characters. :frowning: Maybe that’ll change on my next viewing. I did enjoy it, though!

And the Elvis references are awesome. :sunglasses:

Haha, glad you liked it!

I’m glad you like it Leirin, L&S is one of my favorite Disney movies.

Rio: I enjoyed this movie. Its characters are likable enough, and the animation and character design is very nice. It…could’ve done without the songs, but aside from the expected pop culture corniness, it’s a pretty good movie. So, from a movie critic standpoint, I’d give it 3 and a half out of 5, but from an enjoyment point of view, I’d say a solid 4.

I watched with my twin brother a yu-gi-oh movie.
