Movies - both new and old

lizardgirl - I never did see that film, though I’ve meant to for

quite some time now. How good is it exactly, if I may ask?

lizardgirl: Artificial

Intelligence was cool ^^ A little depressing at some points, I can remember …

Never saw Artificial Intelligence… I was mildly interested in it, but I’ve lost interest now…

I aslo like Pirates of the Caribean, First Knight, National Treasure, and other movies.

Here’s another question: What is you’re favorite film series?

Film series? Hmm, this is going to be a challenger. I think Harry Potter will have to be my top choice for now, followed by the Lord of the Rings.

Star Wars, hands down!!

Star Wars was good, if there were light sabers.

“Good”? That’s the most you can say? How 'bout “fantastic”; superb; magnificent; incredibly awesome!!! (snigger)

Heheh – I’m just kidding with ya’. But that’s what happens when one is a Star Wars geek.

I see what you mean.

The Spider-Man franchise. Need I say more?

I have breaking news of Steven Spielberg’s new film, Lincoln . Steven has recently hired screenwriter Tony Kushner (one of the screenwriters of Spielberg’s Munich) to write the screenplay for the film.

How about absolutely brilliant to the point that its brilliance transcends reason that even reason itself cannot fathom how undeniably spectacular it is? That made no sense whatsoever, of course, but you get my point  The Star Wars series, without a doubt, is my favorite film series (and, generally, films) of all time.

Munich was an excellent film (it’s also in my list, as a matter of fact), so I have no doubt that Lincoln would be great as well. Pair a great screenwriter with a virtuoso of a director and you get something magnificent.

CountSolo - Just how excellent was it?

Be warned- I can talk about this film a lot!

The storyline is SO creative and original, and despite seeming to be really unbelievable if you just hear about it, when you actually watch the film you just get engulfed in it all.

The acting is incredible. Jude Law is just such a special robot as Joe, and there is no doubt even for one second that he is a robot. His movements, the way he speaks, even the way his eyes look at other characters…And Haley Joel Osment is even better! He just blows you away the second you see him properly for the first time, saying in his innocent voice, “I like your floor.” There’s something so childlike about him even as a robot, that when he does get ‘attached’ to his ‘mother’, you believe every word he says about his connection with her.

The film does basically show that even though it’s set so far into the future, one of the core values that still remains is the bond between mother and child. And when the two have to be separated…I’m telling you, for this film, you will need plenty of tissues!

I admit, it’s a bit like marmite; there are people that love it, as well as people that hate it. But even so, it’s more than just a film…It’s like an experience more than anything, and it is something that I would recommend even to people that wouldn’t ever want to watch it again.

Just curious. What movies have you guys recently seen in theaters?

I’m assuming you’re referring to Munich, seeing that I’ve lauded Star Wars so much already.

Well, the thing about Munich is that it intrigued me throughout its entirety. The underlying premise of the movie is that violence cannot be resolved through violence - otherwise violence would just persist. Other movies have had this same “vengeance is bad” premise before (a lot of which were good); what sets it apart from these other similar movies was that it evoked its premise to the audience by means of an internal conflict by its main character, Avner. Because of this, the movie, to me, did not only transmit its message on a political level, but also on a level that would make you repent for ever having seeked revenge against those who have offended you - even the simple types of revenge, like stealing your brother’s candy after he stole away yours a week ago (maybe that’s somewhat farfetched and exaggerated, but what I basically intended to say was that no matter how small of a “revenge plot” it is, it’s still revenge and it’s still bad).

That’s how I felt about the movie, anyway. For those of you who haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. If you’re a little squeamish, then you should watch it with an adult (it’s rated R after all). It wasn’t really that gory, but there are some scenes that… well… made the movie deserve its R-rating.

Okay guys, I’m going to tell you what movie scared the living daylights out of me as a kid. I know you will laugh at this but it was E.T.
A friend of my mother’s recommended it because she took her 5 year old to see it, who loved it. I was four at the time. It was the first time I ever saw the THX logo, and the first time I ever heard that music. That scared me. The screaming parts in the movie terrified me. So I had my parents take it out and a few years later I got up the courage to watch it again, and I was hiding behind the couch. Even today, I’m still terrified of it.

At first I laughed, Bill, but I think it’s perfectly normal too be “afraid” of ET.

At first your like kind of freaked out by the little alien… but then you come to know him, and the “bad guys” are now trying to kill your new friend…

I was never really “scared” of it, just a little “freaked”!

It’s a pretty good movie…

I’ve never actually seen E.T. before. I really ought to watch it one day…
