Pixar Internships & Residents 2012/2013

I was hoping to apply for a lighting internship but there isn’t one posted DX I’m considering PUP just because that’s the only other 3D internship that matches my skill set.

Just a question for anyone who might have the answer. The Technical Direction, Global Technology internship talks about knowing programming (C++ , python, and perl) but also asks for art aesthetic. My programming background is very limited (I only know a little MEL and Python) but it has to do with texturing and lighting which is what I want to do. Should I apply to that instead of PUP? Any input will be greatly appreciated!

@mikahla: you should send prints, so they can put them on big tables and have the hiring committee walk around the room to have them judge what they like.

@scadstudent: most if not all the GT folks have some sort of engineering degree (many of them were in computer science grad school), and the majority of the job is programming software that is specific to one particular movie. since you’ll eventually generate pictures, it is still good to have an art aesthetic to judge whether a result makes sense or not. PUP is much more general, and as far as I know it doesn’t involve much programming, so that might be a better shot?

good luck to both of you!

As a senior in undergraduate graduating in May, can I still apply to PUP?

Only 3 days left! Have you sent in your application? If so, what have you applied to and were you interviewed yet?

I’ll be applying for the TD:GT internship. I’m currently getting my reel and resume together. I’m currently deciding what to include and what not to include.

I wish you all the best of luck!

I applied! Eeek! Really exciting isn’t it? How long do you think it’ll be before they start interviewing?

Good luck all!

Ooooh also, I sent mine from Ireland, and while I applied online well before the deadline, I’m concerned it won’t get there in time, do you think it’s a HUGE deal if the reel is late, because technically you have applied and submitted before the deadline date, just got held up in post?? Or is this me being unrealistically optimistic. Thoughts?

@Cailin as long as it is post marked before the deadline you should be fine. Also I thought they are doing everything digitally this year?

I also thought the same thing about the digitally thing. When I went to look at the SlideRoom account, it showed 3 positions (Animation, PUP, TD:GT).

I applied for the Editorial Intern and they wanted a DVD Demo Reel posted…? Yeah it was post dated before the deadline! Whoop! Thanks for responding!

I just finished touching up my resume and writing my cover letter. I also put together my demo reel breakdown and the videos I’ll edit together tonight for the reel. Oh right, I’ll be applying to the TD:GT internship. I don’t expect to get an interview or get past the interview if given one, but if I don’t try then I definitely won’t get one or get past one.

good luck! (yes, there is a lot of luck to it… at least timing-wise)
make sure to also highlight your programming skills, and try to sound a bit more optimistic at the phone if you get interviewed.

Thanks, I will try to sound a bit more optimistic if I do get a phone interview which is very unlikely. :stuck_out_tongue: My reel consists mainly of stuff I programmed and only contains 4 projects because my other projects aren’t very relevant.

Wow…looks like they hired enough interns already for their TD: Global Technology internship. They took the listing off the website. :frowning: I was rejected by one studio and I can’t even apply to this one.

Oh no :frowning: I’m sorry. Though at least your resume and all is updated for somewhere else.

I noticed though the editorial deadline was Friday yet they still have the listing up?? And why would they take a listing down before a deadline and leave one up after a deadline? Making very little sense to me…

The technical director internships went down very close to (likely exactly at) midnight PST, which makes me think it was just a mistake on Pixar’s part when entering the deadline into their system. I suspect they’ll reappear in the morning. Failing that, you can send your stuff in as a generic application and mention that the listing shut down before the posted deadline.

My portfolio is here, if anyone is curious about who else is applying: kevinbakercg.com/portfolio/.

Eep. I wasn’t freaking about PUP application much until just now. Haha.

Nice stuff Meloncov. Good luck to everything applying~

Here is my submitted reel to add to the batch of 2012 hopefuls: vimeo.com/37578886

NOOOO I was about to send in my Technical Direction intern application but it is down. It’s 7 hours before the deadline! If I’m a junior can I still do PUP because it is the only one that applies to me? I’m very sad right now DX

I thought the TD was back up. Not the main listing, but you can still submit in Slideroom.
I would suggest you package your resume/cv together in PDF and upload it along with your reel at slideroom if you didn’t do the actual application through the main site.

Also I had no idea TD was so soon. I thought it was along with the other internships due in April.

And yes. I’m a junior. I think juniors are the majority of applicants for PUP.

@aiyaitsai The TD internship on their postings is gone but is apparently still up where they want reels submitted but you have to apply for an internship to be able to post on the demo reel upload. I’m just going to apply to PUP and send an application for the TD internship to my schools turn in since Pixar is visiting in two weeks for interviews.

EDIT: So I just submitted my application for PUP. :open_mouth: Good luck to everyone that applied. My reel is vimeo.com/38733137 I’m open for critiques!

At least Pixar visits your school. No studio visits my school.

Anyways, the TD:GT internship is back up again and I just applied. I wish you all good luck and myself a miracle.

Out of curiosity what schools are you guys coming from?
