Ratatouille box office results

It seems that Ratatouille’s domestic box office performance will be comparable to A Bug’s Life…both coming in under $200 million. But the Bug did even better internationally than it did domestically. With a non-US setting, perhaps the Rat can enjoy similar success. What are the international release dates for the Rat in the UK, France, Germany, etc.?

The UK is 5th of October, France is the 1st of August, and Germany is the 3rd of October. The release dates are very spread out- Ratatouille will finally be released worldwide on the 19th of October. So, this implies that however much money has been made already, there’s a whole lot more to be made, to say the least!

And a quick side note- I didn’t realise until now how highly rated Ratatouille has been on some websites. It’s number 51 on the IMDb, and that’s no mean feat!

only 200 mill + and just another Brilliant classic that will keep selling for generations

just amazing film making

After almost 3 weeks in release, Ratatouille has gross 148 million in the U.S. If Ratatouille can manage to gross just 2 million dollars everyday for the next 30 days, it will break the 200 million dollar mark. That’s all I want.

It will. I know it will. It has only been a couple weeks! There is still plenty of time for it to break 200.

Me too, I have total faith in it. I’m guessing (as far as Domestic releases) it will become the 6th highest grossing Pixar films, right above Toy Story (191 million), but one below Cars (244 million), maybe about 210 million?

And yet Toy Story is still regarded as one of the best, “recent” animated films.

Ratatouille’s overseas box office has been updated, and the film has earned $29.6 million overseas, making Ratatouille’s current worldwide total $178,031,089.

Here’s the interesting thing: I’ve been comparing Ratatouille’s worldwide total with that of past Pixar films (mainly Cars, The Incredibles, and Finding Nemo). Now, I know it is far to early to tell how successful this movie will be abroad, but I found some rather surprising numbers in Ratatouille’s breakdown. First of all, there’s countries like Argentina, Brazil, Israel, Chille, and Mexico. In these countries, Ratatouille has already earned close to (if not more than) half the gross that Cars, Incredibles and Nemo received in their entire theatrical run! A prime example of that is Mexico, in which Nemo is leading the pack with $17.8 million. Well, after just two weekends in Mexico, Ratatouille has earned $8.9 million! Then there’s Ukraine, in which Ratatouille has already earned almost twice as much as Cars did! Plus (if Box Office Mojo is correct), it looks like Ratatouille has already been released in several countries the other films have not, and is doing fairly well in those places. But probably the biggest surprise is Russia. All three of the past films earned between $3.3-$3.8 million. As far as I know, no Pixar film has ever grossed more than that in Russia. But in just three short weeks, Ratatouille has picked up nearly 9 million dollars there!

Just a note: these numbers may not be correct. It’s possible that as time went on they stopped updating individual numbers on the site, and instead just added up the total profit. But still, Ratatouille is doing much better than expected overseas in a short period of time, and most of the major countries haven’t even seen the film yet! Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the UK (among others) are usually big money-makers for Pixar, and their releases are spread out over the next several months. I still don’t think Ratatouille will make as much overseas as Finding Nemo’s $524.9, but it should do quite well, and more than make up for any lower-than-expected performance in the US.

Shark Bait - Heheh. Wow. That is, indeed, wonderful news to hear, especially seeing as many of the big market investors (namely Disney executives) were waiting on tenterhooks to discover whether or not this particular Pixar film would hit the mark. Alas, it has exceeded expectations, in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the update! I’m not that surprised that this production is raking in the dough and charming the hearts of many audiences worldwide.

I think that Ratatouille will do well in France.

ratatouille will do great no matter what!

I whole-heartedly second that. It only makes perfect sense.

If memory serves me correctly, Finding Nemo was a pretty big hit here in Australia so I’m guessing it will be the same for France. The thrill of seeing part of your country in a Pixar movie is awesome. :sunglasses:

Only five million to go! :sunglasses:

We’re officially ahead of A Bug’s Life now.

rachel - Exactly. Ratatouille is only the second Pixar film to be centered around a known country/area, Finding Nemo being the first. I hope they do one for America. (snigger)

Bill - Thanks for the update! The rats are taking over the kitchen (and the box office)…

Dash - Thank goodness…

Well, we do know where Monsters Inc was set despite it being a fictional location and of course Cars was set in the US southwest along Route 66 in the fictional town of Radiator Springs. We also know that The Incredibles was set in California in the fictional city of Metroville which is based on the San Francisco/Emeryville area. We know this because of not only the street names but also by the California style homes, Edna’s mansion by the ocean (note it’s close to the coast), the map zooming in on the Bay area when E triggers the homing device, and most convincingly the Insuricare return address being listed as Metroville, CA as is clearly visible on a printed envelope in Bob’s office. So Pixar has done two US based movies that we can narrow their locations down to small regions despite their being fictional cities.

That is such a relief. Now can it beat another Pixar movie?

Dash - Oh yeah!! Heheh. Well, my previous statement has been proved non-factual and incorrect! I forgot that The Incredibles was based in the state of California, even though the city the said group resides in is obviously a fictional concoction. The same goes for Monsters, Inc., now that you reminded me of it (I completely forgot about the map – heheh).

Thanks for refreshing my memory, dude!

(You know, I don’t know why more people don’t call you “dude”. I mean, everyone should call their partners a “dude”. It’s only the coolest word on the planet! goes off-topic :stuck_out_tongue: )
