I only have one chance left to contribute to the overall gross total tomorrow, as September 6th is the last day Ratatouille will play in my area. It is a heart-wrenching dab of information and sorrow, but that’s life for ya’. I’m gonna do everything in my power to see it one…last…time either this evening or sometime tomorrow. (snigger)
Yes! Ratatouille finally did it. Yay! Hopefully the other countries will contribute a bit more to this gross.
Mitch - Aww. I feel for you. I hope you have a good time when you see it again… It won’t be long until the DVD comes out I bet. Ironically, Ratatouille has officially opened in Australia today (September 6). Woohoo!
rachel - Heheh. Thanks, rachel. If I do go, I will enjoy every last bit of it. As for the DVD, it’s just not the same as seeing it on the big screen, ya’ know?
Yay for you Australians out there! Enjoy seeing it again, dude!
Now that Ratatouille has crossed the $200 Million mark when it comes to U.S. and Canada ticket sales, we can now officially call the movie a certified domestic blockbuster. If it reaches the $400 Million mark in international sales, which I certainly hope it will, we can then call it a certified international blockbuster. Of course, in the end, it all comes down to how qualitative the movie is, rather than how much it acquired at the box office, but you have to admit that “certified blockbuster” has got that nice ring to it.
I’m really glad that Ratatouille is doing wonderfully at the box office (it’s doing better than I expected, to be honest); it gives me a sense of hope, in that I can sense that quality still matters quite a bit to moviegoers.
News from the Portuguese Box Office - In the week from August 23 to August 29, Ratatouille was still number one and grossed 1 448 379,71 Euros. Just to make a comparison, Ratatouille grossed that in 15 days, while The Simpsons Movie grossed 1 235 485,61 Euros in 36 days. In short, it’s being a HUGE success.
I’m just sorry I don’t have any more recent numbers, that’s all I have for now!
Ratatouille earned $2.9 million in Austrailia on opening weekend. I’m not sure how good or bad this total is in general, but the past four Pixar films have all grossed higher than this on their opening weekends, so, unfortunately, it appears that Ratatouille is underperforming in Austrailia.
The good news is, Ratatouille has moved up again to the second spot on the overseas total, only behind Bourne Ultimatum. With a $9 million weekend, the movie has now grossed $201.5 million overseas, bringing the worldwide total to over $400. Remy’s current total profit:
Domestic: $201,994,077 - 50.1% + Foreign: $201,503,677 - 49.9%
Worldwide: $403,497,754
By the way, I think that Ratatouille has a very good chance of reaching $500 million worldwide.
A little update from France : Ratatouille is now officially the biggest success of the year here, with 6 499 489 viewers. I don’t know how much it earned, but that must be a lot of money.
Ratatouille was released 6 weeks ago, and so far it has always been number one in the French box-office
That’s great news, Archibald! Money-wise, Ratatouille has earned $54.5 million (U.S. dollars) in France. It’s currently the movie’s biggest money-making country outside of the U.S.
Just for fun, I looked up the 8 territories that Ratatouille has yet to open in, and I added up what Cars earned from those 8 countries. Cars received over $70 million just from those countries. In nearly every other location, Ratatouille has out-performed Cars by a good amount, so I think it’s very likely for Ratatouille to receive at least another $100 million by the end of it’s global run. And that’s in addition to what it will continue to earn in the locations it’s currently released in!
Mitch and TSS - Yep, it’s being an enormous success in Portugal too! In fact, here’s a small update from the Portuguese box office:
In the week from August 30 to September 5, Ratatouille was still number one at the box office; and grossed 1 799 576,70 Euros.
TSS - Well, I was googling on that subject, and it turns out that 1,799,576.70 euros is approximately 2,493,541.61 dollars. I hope that clears things up!
