I can’t wait for a South/Central American movie.
I think Disney’s original plans for The Emperor’s New Groove sounded really interesting - a more Disney-esque musical called Kingdom of the Sun, which was pretty much based around The Prince and the Pauper.
They used a lot of the ideas in New Groove though, so it doesn’t look like it will ever be made.
^ It did, and had a romance between the emperor and a peasent llama herder. It sounds really interesting. But one reason I loved ENG was that it was so different from any other Disney film- style and story wise. The route that Kingdom of the Sun would of been sounds more safe from a Disney perspective. But I would love to see what it would of been like.
What I like about ENG is Yzma and Kronk. They make the movie. Their hilarious.
As some folks have mentioned Central/South America, why aren’t Saludos Amigos and The Three Caballeros on the “character locator” map? And there are a lot more problems than Pinocchio incorrectly placed in Germany:
-Fantasia should have dinosaurs at the bottom with Dinosaur and Treasure Planet.
-Fantasia 2000 should have New York indicated, or maybe something else at bottom with Dinosaur and TP.
-Russia should be there (Peter and the Wolf from Make Mine Music).
-there should be another England for Jack and the Beanstalk (Mickey from Fun and Fancy Free).
-the midwest U.S. or Texas for Johnny Applessed or Pecos Bill (Melody Time) should be on there.
-The Little Mermaid should be in Denmark, not the Caribbean.
-Sleeping beauty should be in Norway (or at least Scandinavia), not Germany.
Somebody get a cartographer on that, stat! Lives hang in the balance.
Bunny Mattinson’s Mickey project still seems like the most likely next hand-drawn Disney film.
Holy fricken’ fudge! How could I forget SL & TTC. They’re on the tops of my Disney list, I even have a picture of Jose hanging on my wall! BAD FAN.
I understand why half of that list isn’t included. BC there’s limited room, and most people aren’t familiar with them. (Make Mine Music and Melody Time).
And I always thought, and still do that Sleeping Beauty was Germany. They have a Prussian Eagle on the crest that is on the curtains. That’s one of many reasons why I believe that to be a Germanic movie.
e-j-e: On Sleeping Beauty, production designer/background artist Eyvind Earle, a Norwegian-American, tapped into his heritage for the medieval/Gothic designs. Also, the cliff-like topography depicted is much more like Scandinavia than Germany. Finally, the lighting is very consistent with the sub-Arctic “land of the midnight sun” characteristic of Scandinavia, and Aurora evokes the Northern Lights. There’s a close relationship between Germanic, Teutonic, and Nordic cultural aspects, so a Prussian symbol can fit easily just as Wagner drew German inspiration from Viking lore. But the world of Sleeping Beauty looks much more like Scandinavia than Germany (to which I’ve traveled).
Who knew that there was so much potential hair-splitting on a simple Disney map?
I kinda wish there were more films in the midwest. The midwest is alway’s an overlooked place.

Oh wow, I feel so stupid reading this post because I have such limited knowledge of this stuff! Very insightful information.
My dad and I always thought it was Germany too.

I agree. My family’s from Nebraska, so I can relate to the ‘overlooked’ of which you speak.
I alway’s thought it was becausw some film makers see the sterotype the it’s a boring place. Ohhh nooo it dosen’t have an ocean. What ever will I dooooo. There a lot of films see here. Just not as much as coast states.
I hooe that Mickey film doesn’t have anything to do with the one that was planned from the Eisner era.

Oh, I forgot all about the upcoming Mickey film.
Yep. We don’t know when it’ll come out or if Disney will green light it.
I see the Mickey film about how he meet everyone he knows, his life, and saving the world from someone.
That could work. It would be better then “In Search of Mickey Mouse” which sounded like a recipe for disaster for me.
They could also give more detailed releationship to Mickey and Minnie. How they got to date each other and all. Then Mickey says something thet really offends Minnie and decides to leave him at Prom or something.
And with Donald and Goofy. Maybe they could do something like their the best of pals in elementary. Years pass and they have since spilt up and hang out with diffrent people. Then they find out they gotta save the world together and now they got to work together even though they don’t while also restoring their friendship that ended a long time ago.
I need an animated Frankenstein.

As for the most-likely Mickey feature with Bunny Mattinson’s involvement, it would be cool to see an update of the old format from the shorts with Mickey and pals…in a modern feature-length adventure, of course. Almost any recent live-action Disney movie would be lots of fun with the Fab Five in it instead of the actors…pirates, aliens, sorcerers, take your pick.
