So whats the next hand-drawn(2D) film?

^Wow, thanks for sharing that. I haven’t heard of that short at all but it definitely appeals to me. Sounds almost un-Disneyish but in a good way.

“Paperman” is honestly the most exciting animation project I’ve seen from Disney in years. Impressive! They seemed to have developed the perfect combination of computer and hand-drawn animation.

I’m stoaked for Paperman. I can barely comprehend what it’ll look like visually, I’m really excited to see it in finished form.

You know I’d really like for Disney to adapt Moby Dick or Bremen Town Muscians.

I’d like to see one on the Old west. Or one in an American war.

Home on the Range says hi.

I mean a good western.

I know. But I’m with you on the American war movie idea though.

Can you be a bit more specific? An American war, the United States is nearing 300 years, there is a huge difference between all of them. What time period?

And does it has to be American?

No of course not. He just said American, so I was curious as to which which American war he meant.

Exactly. The question was meant to him

I guess one of the World Wars.

They can’t do the Cival War without talking about slavery, and I’m not sure if they could get away with that.

For the American Revoluion, I’m not sure if people from the UK will want to watch a movie about them loosing a war, even if the most likley plot would be an American and British becoming friends.

WW1 may be the most likley since WW2 may involve Hitler

I don’t know much about Vitanom or the Cold War.

Keep in mind that these are wars. Which involve killing people, young people dying. Families seperated, towns destroyed. If you’re worried about a movie with Hitler or Slavery, and take that out, it’s still going to be violent and disturbing.

The Cold War is a bit different, because it was a cold war. Meaning the two main powers didn’t outright battle each other. Iron Giant involved the Cold War.

There have been a couple animated films involving WWII- either the whole plot revolving around it or themes. Valient and the Peter Pan sequel.

So it can be done. But the filmmakers will either have to be historically accurate and offend protective parents, or alter and clean the events, therefor upsetting historians. (Case in point: Anastasia)

Also I doubt that UK moviegoers won’t see a film just because it’s about the American Revolution and they lost. That was centuries ago, and the large majority of Britons aren’t upset about loosing the Colonies generations ago.

e-j-e: Great points about animation and war. Sobering examples of hand-drawn animation that come to mind are When the Wind Blows and Barefoot Gen. And Valiant is a stellar example of a warfighters-in-the-war animated film; it’s not the greatest film overall, but the balance of humor and genuine danger makes sense given the topic. Although it was made at Ealing Studios in the UK thru Vanguard Animation, Disney released it stateside. It’s interesting that all the wartime films mentioned, including Return to Neverland, stem from a non-U.S. viewpoint.

How about Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron as an example? It’s a blend of hand-drawn and digital animation, but the overall impression is of hand drawing, and it’s definitely about the Old West. Although, if it’s been done at DreamWorks, Disney is probably not trotting down the same cowpath any time soon.

So this isn’t 2D but I saw on the first page that someone mentioned that there should be a Latina Disney Princess. And there will be. Her name is Sophie the First and it’ll be a show for preschoolers I believe. She doesn’t really look Latina to me sadly. I must say I am disappointed. One in the way she is presented physically and two how she seems she could have much more potiential as a character. I personally had been writing and drawing ideas for a Latina princess in hopes of someday catching a job at Disney. I plan to have my drafts with me if I grab an internship. you know just incase ;]

I do love 2d animation! I’m going to school for storyboarding and work on my comics in my spare time. I really want to bring back 2d to the big screen.

I think some time, for the sake of “avoiding racism”, absurd things get made.

So what if there’s no Latina princess? In the real world, a Latina princess doesn’t make much sense.

Most princesses have being white because their films are based in European fairytales. Some others make sense because their cultures actually have Princess-like figures, as in some Asian countries.

But a Latina princess is kind of an excuse to be multiracial just for the sake of being multiracial.

PS: If things are like that, then I demand more races. I want an Elf princess. And a Dwarf princess too. Maybe she could have a very pretty beard.

I don’t think it’s absurd. I mean ancient Latin cultures Mayans, incans, aztecs etc probably had some sort of female figure that could mirror a queen or princess. My idea went a long those lines heh. I think it was more for the sake of being fair. People had been wanting a Latina princess for awhile so it was only a matter of time (we just didn’t know how long it’d take.)

I think pre-columbian cultures aren’t considered Latin. I’m not too sure about reining female figures in those, but even if they exist, I think they should only do it if the script demands that specific culture as its setting on argumentative terms, not just to have a character that will appeal some people because of its race.

I still think that if they do it, it will be out of political correctness rather than actual need from the story.

By the way, I live in a “Latin” country, so it’s not racism, or anything, but quite the opposite

I have no idea what her story is about that would make them chose that culture butttt Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather will be the headmistress of an academy that she attends  Merryweather was my favorite fairy from Sleeping Beauty. Also other Disney Princesses appear so it makes me want to watch the show a bit more now. Though it depends who their voice actors will be.
