So whats the next hand-drawn(2D) film?

It defintely does count.

I’d like to see them do another appropriation - either of a classic fairy tale or something more like Treasure Planet, where they take the basic idea of something and change the setting completely.
Or something rooted in a mythology, like they did with Hercules. Another Greek hero story or something from Egyptian or Norse mythology would be interesting!

Then again, they handled Rapunzel and The Frog Prince extremely well so maybe we’ll be seeing another ‘princess’ join the merchandising pantheon sometime soon.

We do need a Hispanic one.

Worst animated western ever then. I think it could work if the main character’s were humans, it was darker then Home on the Range, and not much pop culture jokes.

I just hope they don’t frigg it up. Like the title of Hercules was TOTALLY wrong. Hercules is the ROMAN name for the character. The GREEKS called him Heracles. If the movie was about Roman gods, it’d make since. But it was a movie about Greeks.

Sorry if I’m overreacting, but as a History major that drives me batty to no end.

I’m guessing it just has to do what all the changes they make. Maybe they though people coulden’t pronoucne it right. Disney alway’s makes changes.

In the original Aladdin, Aladdin was [spoil]chinese.[/spoil]

In The Little Mermaid - [spoil]Ariel dies[/spoil]

In Pocahontas, [spoil]she was about 12, not around 16.[/spoil]

In Hucnhback of Notre Dame- [spoil]Esmurelda dies[/spoil].

When it comes to this name. It reminds me of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone. We all know the original title is Philosopher’s Stone. They changed it because they faught people coulden’t say it right. Maybe this is the same case.

I understand why they did it. Because people are more familier with the name “Hercules” than “Heracles” (Please educate yourselves society!) So it was all for the best, from a marketing standpoint. BC people don’t know what Heracles is. I understand there has to be changes in the story.

But as someone who spends their time studying history, it’s just really annoying. Everything has something that annoys them. Plus people who have an understanding of Roman Greco History thinks it makes Disney look really stupid. But, for Disney it was a smart idea bc it would sell more tickets.

But it still infuriates the Hell out of me. It’s better than Pocahontas though. That wasn’t annoying, just downright disrespectful. (I still love many parts of that movie though!).

I don’t think you need spoilers for Pocahontas, seeing as it’s history. 8D But I find it ridiculous for Pocahontas to be that age in the film, anyway. She looks older than me, even, so early to mid-20s.

I feel your pain, e-j-e…but it called for a punt on the Hercules/Heracles thing after seeing the use of Roman numerals and hearing the lyric “Who puts the glad in gladiator?” Clearly the thought was that Greco-Roman history is all lumped together in the general public’s mind.

Also…there’s an interview with John Musker in several parts over at the TAG Blog. In part III (Roman numerals!) Musker mentions that the future of Disney hand-drawn animation is uncertain but wouldn’t be a possibility at all without John Lasseter’s support:

There biggest changes are probably Trusure Planet. The book didn’t have anything to do with space and stuff.

In the original Tarzan, Jane is American, not British.

Hoe did we get onto the failure of Disney adaptations?

Some said they’d like another mythological tale for the next hand drawn 2D film. And I said I hope they pay more attention to the details of it if they do.

Oh, okay. I was just like “What.” :open_mouth: Hehehe

I’d like more mythology, but maybe from somewhere. No reason to recover old material.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want them to do another Greco Roman tale. There’s other mythology and tales from other places they could try out. I’m suprised ancient Egypt hasn’t been done (by Disney).

They may think people would say it’s a ripoff of Prince of Egypt. Even if it’s completly diffrent.

Well, sadly Prince of Egypt has largely slipped out pf the public’s consciousness. Besides, Disney would never to a Bible story, so it would work.

Which is sad, because I adore that movie! :frowning:

I just want something based on the 15th century, with masquerade balls and everything.

Yes, it is a great movie!! And yes!!! That would be good. Elizabeth <3

Yesssss. I just love the whole aesthetic of the century, all the fashion and masks and everything. It’s something I can envision Disney doing beautifully.
I also really love famous mythical creatures, like griffins. I’d like to see more stuff like that in Disney movies.

Disney has done Huncback. It’ not the Bible. But it has thing’s before thought woulden’t be in a Disney film.
