In a sense, both WALL-E and I have different opinons on your videos Andre. I believe this is one of your best ones. I think that what you did with this one really worked.
Well, I appreciate your honesty, Wall-E. I really hope my next endeavour would impress you more. But thanks for your remarks!
And thank you for the encouragement, TSS. I guess you had a different opinion on my effort, and I’m glad that I have entertained you. Thanks once again for the kudos!
Look out for my upcoming Wall-E/James Bond music video! It’s almost here…
I can’t wait to see it thedriveintheatre. And you are welcome.
It’s here… From the maker of the tribute music video “Ratatouille - We Will Get There”, and “WALL•E Fan Trailer - Forgotten World”, comes his first WALL•E music video everyone’s (hopefully) been waiting for!
To commemorate the simultaneous U.S. release of Pixar’s sci-fi masterpiece on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 18, and the Australian bow of the latest James Bond adventure ‘Quantum of Solace’ on November 19, The Drive-In Theatre is proud to present a brand-new Pixar music video tribute. Featuring the theme song from the 2006 motion picture Casino Royale, our intrepid robot hero gets the 007 treatment, as he defeats the bad guys, gets the girl and saves the world.
This is perhaps my most ambitious and challenging project yet, as the song is very fast-paced and the editing has to be very tight to match the beats and lyrics. Some of the song-video synch is subtle, and I’ve tried to tie the overarching ‘story’ of Wall-E’s journey to the lyrics, as well as repeat certain thematic elements (especially in the chorus lines). All in all, this was probably a 24-hour endeavor in total, partly due to my sluggish external hard drive which takes forever to update and save my progress. But it’s satisfying to sit back and view what I’ve accomplished, mashing two of my most favourite but seemingly disparate films into one music video (you’d be surprised how much footage matches the lyrics!) in tune with one of my favourite Bond numbers from Chris Cornell (which IMO, is waaay better than ‘Another Way To Die’).
I hope you enjoy this ode to Wall-E and James Bond as much as I loved making it.
Be sure to watch it in High Quality! It looks much better that way!
“WALL•E music video - You Know My Name”
NOW SHOWING at The Drive-In Theatre.
I saw the video and I must say that is was really well done. Really well editted and cleverly thought up. I liked that you tried to use a fast paced song for a MV like this. A great choice for you were trying to convey a 007 theme behind it. I find it a little unique how WALL-E could get a James Bond treatment for WALL-E is not the most likely action hero.
I have seen a lot of WALL-E fan videos, but I wil say that this happens to be one of the better ones. You have a real talent for making music videos.
This was a great video. I give it 4.5/5. The only reason why I dock you .5 points is because even though this is one of the best WALL-E videos I have ever seen, this one didn’t hit me as much as your Ratatouille one did. I think this one was a great one, but your Ratatouille one was excellent.
Keep it up. I can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Thanks for the praise and criticisms, TSS. I really appreciate your reviews.
Yeah, I guess Wall-E is not exactly cold-blooded superspy material, but that makes him all the more challenging to portray him and (Eve) as so! AUTO and the Captain were also fun to synch with the lyrics!
I’m most honoured…
Any reason as to why it didn’t succeed as much as Ratatouille’s MV? Song choice? Editing techniques? Or is it simply because Ratatouille’s one was more ‘sweeter’? I’m curious to know as IMO, I thought this one was better edited and more ‘impressive’. But I respect your opinion, so I’d like to know how to improve my future endeavours.
Thank you once again, you’re the only person so far to have responded. Anyone else want to give some feedback?
Dude, well done?! That was the bomb! Bam. You really outdid yourself this time. I felt it was kinda unsuitable for a… well, I would say, ‘kiddy’ show ( ) such as WALL-E to be used with my favorite Bond theme at first, but when I got to the chorus, I love how you choreograph together such simple scenes into a magnificent piece of video. Genius, I would say. Very professional.
Nice work, and a good 9.8/10
Thank you for the kudos and Youtube video comment, WBoon! I’m proud of this piece, it took me approximately 24 hours over the course of 4-5 days (because I was working off a slow external hard drive, iMovie project files are massive, like 20+ GB for an imported movie! ) and I planned it to coincide with the Wall-E/Qos premiere, so the result was well worth the effort!
Oh, Wall-E’s far from a kiddy show, it’s probably one of the most intellectually-stimulating and profound adult fare around too, not to mention there’s a surprising amount of robot violence and action sequences too…
Having only watched two Brosnan flicks (Tomorrow Never Dies and Die Another Day) and Casino Royale, I can’t say I have truly listened to all the Bond themes (although I’ve heard a few classics like Goldfinger and Diamonds Are Forever), but this is my personal favourite too. It suits Craig’s meaner and more vengeful Bond like his tux, and it’s spine-tinglingly soulful too! Only Cornell could carry that song.
I’m deeply flattered in the very best sense. A near perfect score! Wow!
I thought that your Ratatouille one really hit me in my sweet spot. It was so full of passion and emotion. I think I told you that it almost made me cry. That was the best video from you in my opinion.
oh… wow…
that was awesome! must have been very difficult to edit, but it looked amazing! great timing, awesome! i never woulda thought to combine those two movies! congrats on a job well done!
TSS: Fair 'nuff. Though I’d argue the clips of [spoil]Eve trying to make Wall-E remember his name and their adventure together to the last chorus line of the video[/spoil] would be pretty touching too, I agree with you that the Ratatouille one was more inspiring and hopeful… Thank you so much for your constructive criticism. I’m glad my videos make people cry…
wallerat: Thanks for your comments, you’re one of my loyal reviewers to count on.
Oh, you have no idea! But I’m glad that it turned out okay in the end.
No one else would either… but that’s the beauty and appeal of mash-ups and crossovers to me, you take two totally different genres and try to meld them into one cohesive and convincing whole. It’s very… postmodern, but way cooler than that!
Danke schon!
Yay! I got my first honour ever for my channel! #78 may not seem like much, but it’s a start! I mean, we’re talking Top 100 for an island-country-continent here! This is huge!

THIS IS THE BEST DAY OF MY LIIIFEEE…!
I’m such a master of the hyperbole.
So far only three people have commented on my new music video… I thought we have a lot of Wall-E fans here?
Congratulations on your honor TDIT. You really deserved it. ou are talented in your fan-video making skills. Keep it up dude.
Sorry for the lateness, I’ve been a bit busy today, and the previous days I can only put down to procrastination. But like I’ve said to TSS before, don’t take that as a lack of interest, but only as a display of my (sometimes) poor time-management skills. But I will eventually give you feedback, ok?
Congrats on the YouTube special achievement. It seems as if you have gotten yourself a solid fan base now. =)
Wow! That video’s awesomeness broke my internets!!! (Seriously it crashed my browser the first time. ) I will never understand how you (and other video makers) seem to match up lyrics with certain parts of the movie so perfectly, like at 2:15 and 3:16, as a couple of examples. The theme and editing of the video really matched the chosen song, too, especially as you mentioned how tricky it was with the fast-paced song, it turned out great. My overall impression of the video was it embodied a nice balance of action and tenderness, much like the movie itself, really. The superimposed information (song title, artist, YouTube member name) was really clever, and reminded me how Video Hits used to have simple details like that, (or maybe it was Rage)… anyhow, it gave the video a real professional feel to it. My favourite part of the video was the ending when Chris Cornell was singing “You know my na-aaame!” and that was synced up to the part in WALL•E where [spoil]he couldn’t remember EVE’s name.[/spoil] Not sure if that was a coincidence, or you planned that, but whichever it was, it blew me away. Excellent work, Andre! Five stars. *****
This question may seem a bit out of the blue, but would you ever consider making an Austin Powers-themed WALL•E video? I think it would be really entertaining!
That was totally awsome! You’re really talented thedriveintheatre! That music was great for this montage.
so you got an award for your vids and channel? cool! awesome job!
wallerat: Thank you! I always wondered what those little honours were on people’s channels, and now that I got one, it’s exhilarating!
mo: Thanks, mo! I really appreciate your sweet compliments!
TSS: Likewise to you, TSS. Likewise.
rachelcakes1985:
Not at all, Rachel. I’ve been late in this reply too.
Well, not really yet, but I’m gettin there.
That was just the “Music Video” title option in iMovie. It’s quite easy to do, but I’m glad it gave you that ‘pro’ impression (And yeah, I watch those programmes on lazy Saturday mornings when I have nothing to do, heheh).
That was intentional. The finale was Eve trying to get Wall-E to remember his name (and by extension, hers), and the cutting back and forth montage between her attempts to make him recall and his encounters with the strangers throughout his adventure (who eventually got to know his name) was symbolising his memories ‘flooding’/returning back to him. And that was how he eventually came back to life towards the end. That part was my favourite too, because the footage just fell neatly into place with the beats (like the part where Eve kissed Wall-E in space, and later in her final attempt to make him remember. The ‘staggered frame’ effect was a new one I was trying out! ).
You know what? That’s not a bad idea. If you meant Quincy Jones’ “Soul Bossa Nova”, I think it would be a suitable theme for Wall-E’s endearing clumsiness and goofiness. It won’t be in the near future, as I’ve got a couple of other projects as outlined in the UPcoming Attractions trailer, but I’ll see if I can get down to it eventually. I like the concept, thanks!
Well, it’s been a little more than one week since the vid’s premiere, and the response has been overwhelming (465 views, with an average of 40 per day!). I sincerely thank you all for your continued support and encouraging words, I’m proud that my first Wall-E music video has such been a great (or relatively great) success!
Stay tuned for the next feature, a Bolt/QoS trailer dub like nothing you’ve ever seen! Check out my Channel (just click my sig) for the revamped background and avatar, as well as an important announcement regarding my leave from 29th November to 11th December. Ha ha ha ha, a very funny short cartoon TDIT. I had a fun time watching it. There were some really funny parts in that video.
