The A113/WALL-E thing is a total coincidence. In the art of WALL-E concept art they call him WAL-E, which probably means during production they came up with the acronym, it had nothing to do with A113, it’s just a rumor from Wikipedia, somebody wanted the credit for finding A113 first so they just made up the theory…
Oh, well. If it was a coincidence, it was still creative. But there can be more than one A113 sequence, can’t there?
There could be, but it’s unlikely. Anyways, it’s definitely a coincidence, i mean turning the word WALL-E upside down doesn’t spell A113, you’d have to spell it in lowercase, and he is named WAL-E and Wal-E in some concept art, so I;m sure it’s just an overly thought out coincidence.
Thanks for the PM, TSS. I’ll message you back to discuss them when I have the time.
I doubt Pixar would base a Character’s name (especially one thats the name of the movie) after a company symbol.
Thanks rachel. I’ll wait for anything you want to discuss.
Does the ‘Lightyear’ blimp floating over the race track at the beginning of Cars (and also later I think) not count?
I’m still in two minds about adding the WALL•E = A113 as a reference… The ‘W’ is still there even if you mirror it, and the ‘Ls’ don’t really look like ‘1s’ when mirrored, either.
eratosthenes - Yes, that counts. I’ll add it next time. Thanks.
Nont only does the Blimp say Lightyear, but the tires or the racers are Lightyear Tires. (Play off of Goodyear I bet)
Goodyear and Buzz Lightyear. Very clever joke. =)
Yeah I remember laughing at that when I saw it in theaters. That along with the For the Birds reference and a few others.
Rachel: Great job compiling this list! Just wondering, since we already have a considerable amount of feature film references, should we start to add short film references? I have a lot!
Hey guys, do you think the “bloopers” (like at the end of Toy Story 2, for example) should be included in the list? I don’t know whether they should since it’s not really part of the movie… but then again, the movie might be counted as finishing only when the credits end, not when they start. So I don’t know whether the fake bloopers should be included in this list or not. What do you think?
martini - I’d really like it if we could flesh out the A Bug’s Life and Cars sections before starting on the short films. I’m not even sure if ABL has any more in-jokes than what I’ve already found, but I’ll take another look, anyway. Cars I’m not really a big fan of so haven’t been able to find that many - I wouldn’t know where to look. If you would help me find references from Cars, then that would allow me to open up the short films section quicker, otherwise you’ll just have to wait until I find the time to flesh out those two sections myself. In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing what you’ve got.
I think if the bloopers were shown at the end of the movie, it should count as part of the movie, and in-jokes in blooper reels should be put in here, but that is my opinion.
By the way rachel, did you ever get my PM?
I think you should add the bloopers, but only the ones with references of course (but that’s probably what you were going to do anyways.) And about the Cars/ABL/Short Films sections, I’ll see what i can find.
I don’t know if these have been mentioned before:
In the A Bug’s Life outtakes: In one outtake Woody makes an appearance.
In Monsters, Inc outtakes, Rex is seen auditioning for the part of Ted, the giant chicken.
During Finding Nemo’s end credits, Mike Wazowski is seen in his diving gear, swimming across the screen.
In Cars…mm, not exactly ‘outtakes’…: there is a spoof of Monsters, inc, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story as cars.
The Star Swordsman - Thanks for your input. I was leaning towards adding those blooper references in myself, but it’s always good to get other opinions, especially as this list is not just representative of me, but you guys as well. Yes, I did get your PM.
martini - Thanks for the input, as well. And it would be great if you could submit some Cars references! Thanks in advance!
bright dot-dasher - Uh, those are the bloopers we are talking about, yes. Anyway, I take those submissions as a vote for having the bloopers in the credits as part of the list…?
Thanks for the link, Bill. I’ll take a squiz at it after I’ve seen the movie.
I’ve been searching for a topic like this for a long time~!
