YES!! “You are neither DEAD nor DYING.” Very creepy!
He has a very interesting style indeed. He
says “99 souls” like “Ninety-nine souls-sa”. He puts like a release on the last sylable

I’m very silly and have been thinking about Pirates of the Caribbean all the time
lately.
I’m currently taking history in summer school (to get ahead for this coming year, not repeating
it) and we had to make African masks. Sounds like something a 5th grader would do but nonetheless I decided to
rebel and make a more… Jamaican mask. Heh. It’s inspired by… guess who? Captain Jack Sparrow of
course!

Note the fine details such as the beads and bone in his hair. Lol.
I had a lot of fun making this
![]()
Very nice!! I do like the bone!! (wonders why Jack wears it.)
Don’t be too
ashamed: I’ll be thinking nothing about Pirates until next month, when the next Gargoyles comic comes out and
hopefully some new HP news . . .
Thanks!
Johnny Depp said in an interview that the things in his hair and clothes were all basically tokens from
past experiences. He mentioned that the bone is from the knee of a reindeer!
Did this thread die? I miss Pirates of the Caribbean… I hope to see it again soooooon!! (I live right by a $1
theater that plays movies once they’re “old” and just about to come out on dvd).
Lol. Okay. I think I lied. I actually think he said it was the SHINbone of the
reindeer because after I posted that I looked at my own knee in wonder.
I think Jack was captured by
another pirate ship at some time that was run completely reindeer and Mr. Claus himself was captain. Jack got
away singlehandedly by tickling Mr. Claus to sit on all the reindeers. As a reminder of this fierce and heroic
day, Jack ripped off the leg of one of the poor, squashed reindeers and letting it naturally… er… gorge itself
out to just the remains of a shinbone. ![]()
I have the 2 disk set too but that’s just because my sister
was obsessed with Pirates of the Caribbean since the beginning. I actually didnt get into Pirates well after the
dvd was out so… by that time I missed out on all possiblity of getting a Lost disk set. I also wonder what’s
on it however… as now I am COMPLETELY obsessed.
Did you know “Dead Man’s Chest” means coffin
in Pirate slang? I guess it’s kinda obvious… but I thought it was just a reference to Davy Jones’s…
dead-ness… Lol.
That’s really cool! The movies have inspired me to be pirates obsessed just recently and I am
currently reading “A History of Pirates”. Have you read the children’s book, “Pirates!”
by… John Matthews I believe? It’s fun stuff. Lots of pop outs lol.
Hmmm . . . makes me wonder if THAT’s why Jack’s in a coffin in his first scene .
. .
You ever noticed how Disney movies based on classic Magic Kingdom attractions just get
increasingly better?
Country Bear Jambery…
The Haunted Mansion…
PotC…
PotC2…
at
this rate “It’s a Small World” could be the first billion dollar grossing movie. ![]()
I think they gave up on the other theme rides and just
kept with Pirates, since that was the most successful.
Didn’t the Country Bears bomb badly??
I’ll definately check out Monkey Island! I think
I’ve heard of that game… my dad has a whole bunch of old PC games that… sound similar…
Oh dear. It’s
a Small World movie?! That would be rather scary. I can see them acting like Teletubbies and the movie being
about “Even if we all look different, at heart, we are all the same.” Lol.
Hold
your tongue, Dash. I like Small World - it’s really my favorite D-land ride - but I don’t think even I could
take a Small World movie…
That’s… just wrong. I
can’t see it working at all.
PotC was definitely the highest grossing out of the theme attraction movies,
I think they’re really going to try and get as much as they can from it. They’ve released children’s novels
about Jack’s life as a child and such already. (I was almost tempted to buy it, sad but true.)
Monkey
Island is the BEST series of video games, like, ever. I just finished replaying the
third game, and decided to do the second again. When you play them in reverse order, you release how
slooooow the first two are in comparison. Click and point is great, until you have
to wait for Guybrush to take five minutes to cross the screen. ![]()
Lol. I was also tempted to buy everything that said Pirates of the Caribbean on it. I
would have too if I hadn’t cracked it open and realized how lame and… rather boring the children’s Junior
Novels or whetever are.
I like It’s a Small World too! Heck, I like all rides at Disneyland. ![]()
I liked all the Disneyland rides as well!!
As for movies, I only like Pirates of the
Caribbean, and surprisingly Haunted Mansion.
I don’t know . . . maybe it was the whole Haunted Mansion
theme music (Doom . . . doom . . . doom, doom, do do do Doom . . .) or maybe it
was the Raven’s remake of Superstition (always liked the original!) but to me it worked. Mind you, I enjoyed
Pirates SO much more!
As for a Small World . . . I enjoyed the ride alot, but I’m not even sure they can
come UP with a story for that ride!
I
finally got around to seeing it; I needed to see Curse of the Black Pearl first, and it took me forever to find a
movie rental store that had any copies not checked out already.
I liked the first one better; it seemed to
me that Dead Man’s Chest focused more on the comedy and swashbuckling aspects than #1 did, so much more that it
got a tad overbearing. The first half of the movie especially I found somewhat lacking in comparison to Curse of
the Black Pearl; far too much time was spent on the cannibal island, in my opinion. The second half of the
movie, though, I thought was much better, after Davy Jones came into the picture, and especially after Will got
the key and escaped from the ship. The story really picked up then. The mayhem with the wheel and the chest and
the Dutchman crew and all that was incredibly over-the-top in a very good sort of way.
Even if there’s no way
that the wheel could have stayed upright that long in real life.
[spoil]All-in-all, I felt that
it was a good transition piece between 1 and 3, but will probably be my least favorite of the three (assuming
they leave it as just a trilogy, which I hope they do). Maybe they felt they could slack off a little because
they already knew they’d be making a third movie and therefore didn’t have to put everything into this one; who
knows. But whatever the reason, they certainly did leave a heck of a lot of loose ends for the third one, mainly
BARBOSSA! and also Beckett being the one to end up with Davy’s heart. Not to mention the issue of how much
screentime Mr. Depp will or will not get in Pirates 3 (gasp!). But, yeah, to me it’s definitely more of a
transition piece.[/spoil]
I liked them both for different reasons. It’s one of
those things where I personally enjoyed it very very much and see the 2 right up there next to each other but I
can see where other people would protest. I agree that they did spend too much time on the cannibal island and it
was unneccesary in the first place (although there were many good gags there… like the fruit kabob part…
heheh). And it was indeed a transition movie… but that just adds to the security of having a successful third
movie.
I hope the third one will be really good… and I also hope they end it there. In a press
conference they mentioned they might go beyond 3…
But then in a different interview they also said
they’re making a definate ending for the 3rd. So… yeah.
Well, I think the one where they mentioned that they may go BEYOND 3 was the Depp
interview where he said he’d be glad to play Sparrow for a 4th, 5th, or even 6th film. But the main thought
from every behind the scenes however, is that it will STOP at 3.
I just love the grayness of certain
characters in this film . . . mainly Sparrow, Swann, and Norrington. Turner, as much as I like the guy, still
appears as a good guy at the end of the second film. For the other three, I can’t tell: It’s just so
great!!
Yeah they mentioned going beyond in the press interview
with Depp… and… one other producer/writer/behind the scenes guy (I forget who… its hard to remember whose
voices belong to who). I think that it is in the best interest to stop at 3 but the non-Depp guy said he would
like to go beyond if that chance was given. But my memory has the habit of being funny… so forgive me if I’m
wrong.
I like the double-sided ness of the films too! That’s what makes these films so dark… you never
know when one will turn against you! Bleghhh… perhaps that overall too goodness of Turner is what bugs me about
him. It’s annoying to watch him in the first movie… lol. He speaks too properly. And then in the second when he
calls “Jack! Jack SPARROOOOWWWW” when he first goes on the cannibal island… is so funny when he like
bends back to the point of back crackage… ![]()
