I have to credit Cars with starting my ‘love affair’ with Pixar, really.
Honestly, I can go on forever as to why I fell in love with Cars. To this day, since June 9th 2006, I’ve loved Cars and the characters in it as if they were a second family.
The crazy part?
I don’t even know the exact reason. That’s what I think makes it great. <3
Hey everyone! I’m a long-time lurker here and thought I’d finally start showing my face for a change. I’ve always enjoyed Pixar films, but my love for the company was re-awakened when I saw Wall-e and fell in completely in love, and then proceeded to rewatch all the older Pixar films (you can also thank this event for renewing my faith in computer animation after a few too many Shreks). It’s hard to pick a number 1 favorite, but some of the ones I rewatch most often are the Toy Stories, Wall-e, Up, Ratatouille, the Incredibles, and finally “The Pixar Story” on my Wall-e DVD, but I’m not quite sure if that counts.
And just a little bit about me outside of Pixar: I am a High School graduate heading off to college this fall, like Andy. I’d like to either study in an area that involves helping people, like psychology or physical therapy, or do something like marketing (or, if I get really lucky, imagineering). I love cartooning and learning how to draw, and anything artistic is bound to catch my eye. The art of animation is one of my favorite forms of art, with Stop Motion and 2D being my favorite mediums.
Nice to meet you MadKat I just came here too a few days ago. The people here are very nice and they welcome you warmly.
Have fun I am It’s great you’ll love it here.
Welcome Madkat! I’m glad to see you are such an inspired Pixar fan.
Congratulations on graduating high school!
Hey everyone! I just found this place today, and after lurking around for about half an hour, I finally decided to join! I’m really in shock and awe from the sheer amount of pure awesomeness that is seems to be radiating from these forums, so please excuse me if my post becomes really long and ramble-y, as I’m still trying to soak it all in.
This place is amazing! I mean I can’t believe how organized everything is, especially considering the relatively small number of members. There’s a blog, a podcast, contest… and what’s this? A magazine?! I’m a member of a pretty large forum, Skateboard-City, at about 30k members, but this place is so much more professional! Over there, everything gets off topic within the first few posts, there’s vulgar language and just an overall feeling of hecticness. Here it looks like there’s just a clean cut, genuine affection toward a common love, and everyone looks friendly and mature. I’m swear I’m not trying suck up to anyone, and I really mean this when I say this: major props to the staff and members!
Ok, now with that out of the way, let me tell everyone a little about myself. I’m just your average 15 year old guy in high school. My love of Pixar actually just arose about a month ago, when I was flipping through channels on TV.
I somehow ended up watching the Disney channel, because nothing else was on, and they were showing Cars. It was basically like the tail-end 15 minutes of the film, and I had absolutely no idea what was going on. After piecing together some bits, and finishing the movie, I was like, “Wow that actually was not bad. It was pretty interesting, I wonder what happened in the first part of the movie that I missed.” Unfortunately, I didn’t really feel that this curiosity justified buying the DVD to watch to whole thing so, erm… uh, I kinda… Ok, I’ll admit it!!! I watched a dvd rip someone posted on Youtube!!! Not exactly legal, and not exactly a good sign when a future Pixar fan won’t even support the company by paying for their movies!
Anyways, I loved Cars, and it completely redefined my thinking on animated movies. Before, I kind of just thought that they were for small children, or the parents of those children who are forced to sit through the movies with them. However this movie had something that most hit movies that come out of Hollywood lack – a plot! Not to mention, in addition to that, amazing characters, and a really deep moral that made me rethink my outlook on life.
I started to wonder what I’ve been missing all these years. I purchased the Pixar Ultimate Movie Collection, along with Wall-E and Up from Amazon. Probably the most worthwhile $200 I ever spent! I watched the rest of the Pixar movies in under a week. Like with Cars, I don’t think that there was a single film in which I didn’t laugh or cry. I just can’t believe that I’ve been exposed to Pixar my entire life – heck, I’ve even seen some of their movies before as a small child – but I’ve never realized their genius until now. I guess it wasn’t until now that I finally have the maturity to recognize that there is more to Pixar’s movies than just little cute cartoon characters running around.
I can’t say that my room is covered with Pixar posters, or that I only wear Pixar clothing. Nor can I say that I own all the Pixar collectible toys, or that I have memorized the dialogue and frame numbers of all their films. But what I can say is that I truly love everything Pixar, and what started as a stroke of luck surfing channels has now turned into an obsession. I’m over a decade late, but I’m finally on the Pixar train!
I really look forward to meeting everyone!
EDIT: Oh my gosh, what was I thinking? I just read what I wrote, and I just realized that I wrote a small novel! Sorry everyone, sometimes when I’m saying something and I get on a roll, I can’t stop myself. It’s like brain diarrhea, everything just starts flowing out uncontrollably! So I apologize if anyone spent the time to actually read this whole thing.
Hello there, Ding!!! Nice to see some Cars fans around here; I love it, but it gets a lot of crap(don’t all the good ones??) I believe you’ll love it here.
Another Cars fan!! Woo! Welcome Ding!
Welcome to the club Ding. You will love it here.
Welcome to the boards, Ding!
Wow, I just read your whole post, and it was amazing! Great to see someone leaking love on their first post! I like it, pure dedication.
Another Cars fan, who also became a Pixar fanatic because of this movie, just like me!
We also share a lot in common- I too don’t have a room decked out with Pixar posters, nor do I own any clothing (though I do wish!).
Anyways, you’re going to love it here, Ding!
BPFA, my room is crazyyyy! XD
Well guys, I’m finally back after a week at camp. What I miss?
Wow, I’d love to see what it looks like! I used to have a Mcqueen poster and various magazine and Happy Meal cut-outs of Cars wallpapered all over parts of 2 walls in my room, but eventually took them down when my brothers and sisters made fun of them
Buzz&Woodyforever: Welcome back! How was camp? And you haven’t really missed much, just some cool new members
I have miscellaneous items from Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles. Sadly, I have nothing from the others… HI, Buzz&Woodyforever!!! Goode that you’re back.
Wow, thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I’m so glad I found this place, I’ve trying to preach the goodness of Pixar to my friends and family for the past few weeks, but for the most part, my words have fallen on deaf ears. It’s so awesome that I found a community of people who share the same love as I do!
Welcome back Buzz&Woodyforever! I can’t say that I have the qualifications to really welcome anyone back yet, as I just joined yesterday, but that’s not going to stop me from greeting you!
A hearty, heartfelt welcome to these wonderful boards, Ding! It’s incredible to read stories like yours, it’s so inspiring and makes me all the more proud to be a Pixar fan!
Yes, the atmosphere here is definitely something else. I’m a member of a couple other forums, but I never visit them as much as I do this one, and unlike the members of some other forums, I have absolutely no problem calling these members of PixarPlanet my other family. <3 I’m sure you’ll be a wonderful addition to the community, and I look forward to getting to know you better!
(lol little chef calls herself a true Pixar fan and here she is wearing Dreamworks’ How to Train Your Dragon graphics… Seriously, that film is right up there with Pixar’s best. I’m not even joking. )
little chef
Welcome to the boards, MadKat! Nice to meet someone else also interested in psychology. I love it when long time lurkers join the boards.
And welcome to the boards, Ding! You sound like quite the Pixar fan, to say the least! Great to have you here.
Hope you had a good time at camp, Buzz&Woodyforever. Glad to have you back!
BPFA, don’t listen to your siblings You can do anything you want. Blah, even my parents (especially my dad) are so sick of my Cars obsession it’s not even funny lol I learned not to care about what anyone else things. You should have seen my family when they heard Cars 2 is coming out!
As for you wishing you could see what my Cars infested room looks like, I guess I could put up a youtube video for you unless there is a thread where you can post pictures of your rooms or whatever.
Just as little chef said, this is my second family. The one that I feel can actually understand me. You should think of this forum that way to if you don’t already. Here, we’re all the same. A place where no one says “Eww you like Cars!?”
Or
“Ewwww you like The Incredibles?”
Or
“What are you 2 years old?”
Etc…
The only reason why this post is long is because I know how you feel and it’s something that bothers me a lot. The fact that people can’t accept others for the personal intrests. I mean, we’re not hurting anyone by liking Pixar…are we? Not that I know of course.
You’re not alone in the world.
I learned that the first day I came here. <3
As one of the Cars trailers said…and I don’t know who actually said it…“Life is a journey…enjoy the trip.”
A touching post there, x3haijessiex3. I would put the posters back up, but ages ago whilst clearing my room, I threw them away hangs head in shame then hits it against wall
I know I shouldn’t listen to my family. They don’t respect my love for Pixar at all. They shout at me- “Sometimes I wonder whether you’re 4 instead of 14” ect.
In fact, because I went on and on about Cars so much, they never bought me the DVD. Sighs heavily
But, you’re right, people here are like a second family. I feel more comforable sharing my problems with you guys than my real family, who always say “You’re too paranoid” and “Grow up, for God’s sake!”
I really is a shame that people can’t accept people for who they are. It’s not even only in the pixar area. It’s in all areas…for example, Cars in the movie have different races but no one is racist. In Wall-E, the humans are all heavy set but no one makes fun of each other. In Monsters Inc. they all smell but you don’t see any of them popping a mint can open for the monster to take one! In a Bug’s Life, the small tiny ants showed the big bad hopper that any bug can do what he/she wants. In Toy Story, they showed us that the simplest things can make a kid happy.
See a pattern? In Pixar films where everyone loves each other…that stuff rubs off on it’s fans. They don’t judge each other. Well, they do. The villains…but all that shows is that sure the world has some bad seeds but you don’t have to plant them.
