Hello NickyTea - it’s good to have you here! And yes, this is the best Pixar forum on the 'net. Noooo doubt about it. I don’t believe I’ve ever tried grape soda before. Is it good?
Welcome to the boards, NickyTea.

Indeed.
Captain Pan - Welcome to Pixar Planet!
Ha-ha! That’s great. ![]()

Thanks for the welcome, all!
The grape soda is a graphic for the bottle cap Carl wears in “UP.”
I’m having them printed onto real bottle caps, so my friends and I can wear them to the movie!
Hello, NickyTea. Welcome to the boards.
NickyTea - watches Up trailer again I didn’t even make the connection between the bottle cap that Carl wears and your avatar - and I call myself a Pixar fan! Nice idea with the printing onto the bottle caps. Anyway, have a good time here!
Hello.
Compared to what I have seen in a few minutes of random browsing here, I am a quite new Pixar fan. I watched all of Pixar’s stuff before I learned some basic graphic design, it all looked pretty average to me, nothing special. Then after I had tried among other things photography, web design, and the tiniest bit of 3D I watched WALL-E, admittedly late as I was away when it was released in theaters and I had to wait for the DVD. So I watched it, and long story short was amazed by not only the story but the soundtrack and the incredible graphics. I’m nominating that last sentence for understatement of the century.
So anyway, WALL-E inspired me to get into 3D graphics, specifically using Blender because I’m not entirely sure it will work out yet. Wait, that was dumb, because when there’s a will there’s a way and sure as anything there’s a will. My dream job changed from a web designer to a Pixar animator in two seconds flat, and I intend to do just that.
I found these forums when I was searching for the exact 3D modeling/animation program that Pixar uses, in hope of learning from the basics on said program. I am aware that they use RenderMan to render it (Along with RenderFarm
) but even the most careful googling has not revealed more than that they use some proprietary (Surprise) animation program running on Linux. (Now that was a surprise.) If anyone could help me with that I would be very grateful.
Because of the fact that I live in Finland, I do not have access to the three-DVD special edition of WALL-E (They only bothered to translate two into Finnish) that I would like to see, memorize, obsess upon, etc. etc. This raises the obvious question: What does the third DVD contain? This being a forum filled with Pixar fanatics not much unlike myself I am sure that one (Or all) of you out there owns the three DVD set, which, by the way, I am aware of because I saw it advertised on the American WALL-E website. Again, if someone could help me with that it would be appreciated.
Thus ends my long and rambling introduction.
blac hoel: Welcome to the boards! ![]()
The 3rd disc is nothing special… just a digital copy.
And it is cool to know that you are interested in computer graphics. Enjoy your time here on the boards with the rest of us Pixar fanatics!!!

Welcome to the boards NickyTea and Blac Hoel! ![]()
blac hoel: Hey, welcome to Pixar Planet.
Welcome to Pixar Planet, blac hoel! I loved reading your story of how you became a Pixar fan. Enjoy your time here.
Captain Pan: I’m a huge fan of cheesy Hawaiian shirts when I first visited Hawaii back in 04/05 (around 5 years ago), way back before even I knew that the great dude behind Cars wore them. Welcome on board!
Nicky Tea: I like your bottle cap avatar! What a fantastic idea to wear it to the movie. I feel like having grape soda now… Welcome, welcome…
blac hoel: Is your name suppose to sound like “black hole”? So you’re from Finland eh? I believe the propriety software that Pixar uses is Marionette, you can read it on the Intern FAQ. Don’t think it’s available for consumer purchase, though. Have fun on the boards.
Actually I’m an American citizen living in Finland, and yes, my name is supposed to sound like “Black Hole”. ![]()
Hmm, too bad Marionette isn’t available for public use, or I’d take a look at it. I suppose I should try some cel animation in that case too.
Welcome to the forums, blac hoel! ![]()
Welcome to Pixar Planet, blac hoel! And yeah, don’t worry, you’re not missing out on anything by not having the three disk- we didn’t get it either, but since it’s only a digital copy it doesn’t really matter too much. It’s cool to see that WALL-E has inspired you so much! ![]()
Hello everyone. Sorry for suddenly going AWOL. I was in a hospital with no access to the net. I was discharged, but I could end up back in the hospital any day, so it would probably be best if other members would organize, record and edit the fan commentaries. Also, could someone else keep the Completed Fan Commentaries thread up to date? It’s good to be back here on Pixar Planet, but I could suddenly disappear again.
I hope you’re going to be okay, Peter! It sounds quite serious if you could have to go back to hospital at any time. You’ll be missed in your absence, and I hope you recover soon!
Glad to see you’re back, Peter! I’ll be hoping you feel better soon if you end up going back to the hospital. I’d be happy to take over the commentaries and enlist the help of a mod to keep the threads up to date, sure. Get well soon. =)
Peter: I hope you are okay. I hope that what ever you are dealing with isn’t too serious. NIce to see you on the boards again.
