Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

I agree with this. Besides Buzz, Woody, Jessie and Stinky Pete I would prefer the other toys not to talk.

I know exactly how you feel. But with this version of Lotso, when you hold it in your hands and look at it, and then set it side-by-side with the TSC version, visually it just doesn’t compare well at all.

I went to my local Shopko, and actually bought one. When I looked at it in the store I knew something was “off”, but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was until I got it home and put it next to my TSC Lotso. Needless to say, it went back to the store the next day.

Cool, glad to hear someone actually seeing him in person. That solves it for me on that, if I’ll get a Lotso it’ll be the TSC or Disney store.

Chris, do you have the Disney store Lotos by any chance?

I don’t have that one (yet). I saw one up close for a few moments once, but that was before I had my own TSC Lotso, so I can’t really speak to how they compare. I’ll be making a trip this week to a city where there is a Disney Store, and I’ll check it out then and let you know.

BTW, I finally got around to shortening the legs on my Spud. I’m pretty pleased with the results:

(I actually posted this photo in the wrong thread first, so I’m just moving it here.)

Nice job Robodad. I want to do that mod myself but I’m a little shaky about screwing it up.

I can’t seem to sleep so out of boredom I checked out various vid reviews of tsc stuff. I noticed on a few of the Lotso ones that he had an awful seam from his nose to mouth. It really looked like someone had taken a blade to him! I noticed eye placement problems when I went to buy mine but that was all. You really can’t take the chance of buying this wave online.

Just got Bullseye and he is amazing!

Wow robodad he looks AWESOME
I wanna do that to mine but i don’t have the materials

Very nice!

I recommend anyone do to the same. As shown they look so much better with his long “avatar” legs not present, hahaha.

Rumor has it, RoboDad was wanting to offer to modify other’s potato heads! (hahahha, for real though!)

(pss, I actually said that, in hopes of him taking on that task, as I’ve been asked but dont have the time/room to, as my work space is crowded like santas)

Robodad, care to comment? I’d be interested…

I have to say I’m surprised by all of the modifications. Anyone else trying to keep their TSC toys MIB like I am? Especially since the boxes are so cool.

Awww. You are going to end up with an army of lonely disgruntled toys who have never known the joy of being freed from their cardboard prisons. An army of Prospector Petes.

You are right though, the boxes are cool. Which is why I take pictures of them from every angle before I open them, and then I have been keeping the boxes themselves.

I can never get my head around the idea of collectors who never display outside the box. Why would you want to keep something tucked away like that? Sure, in the future they can claim top dollar but where was the fun. You may as well stick your money in a jar and sit it on a shelf. I keep watch on them but I allow the kids to play with my collection. Their toys, enjoy them.

It’s my decor in my rec-room. The walls are covered with stop-motion animation figures in their packages (Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride, Wallace & Gromit). For winter, all the Rankin & Bass toys come out for display (Rudolph, Year Without a Santa Claus, Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town). And now my Toy Story TSC display. Although I did get an extra Woody, Jessie and the cheaper Thinkway Bullseye to display outside of the box.

I don’t intend to resell any of them (unless I got laid off for long enough that I need the money). But I just like to keep them new and in great condition in the package. And especially with the TSC collection since the packages are meant to look like the “originals”.

Disgruntled like Stinky Pete! LOL!

(However, I do like to think that my Lotso is one that [spoil]did not become deranged because he was left behind and replaced[/spoil])

My collection isn’t going to be played with, but I have a nice display room for it. For my TSC toys, so far I’ve been able to follow John Lasseter’s advice, and keep one MIB and one on display. But for the other ones, I have made two observations over the past 15 years. First, the vast majority of the toys, even most of the original ones, haven’t really increased in value very much since the first Toy Story movie came out. And second, those that have increased in value don’t fetch much more money on the secondary market by being MIB than their opened counterparts. It seems to be condition that matters most (I’ve seen opened Bo Peeps sell for more on eBay than sealed ones).

So, for toys like Chunk, Twitch, Sparks, and other toys, I carefully remove them from the packaging, put the packaging safely away, and display the toys as part of my collection.

Besides, most of these toys are battery operated, and if you want to avoid the risk of battery leakage, you have to at least remove the toy from the package long enough to take out the batteries.

[spoil]That’s true. Hence no cane. We are buying A Lotso…not THE Lotso. [/spoil]

The buy one, store one is a great idea for those with such disposable income. I keep all my boxes in great condition but the figures inside have to come out. I buy my kids the cheaper versions to play with to keep mine as good as new for as long as possible. What I won’t do is tell my 3 yr old boy he can’t give Lotso a cuddle. He sat there today for 20 minutes watching cartoons with Lotso. No harm done. He already knows how to respect others property.

I understand the concept of keeping items in A1 condition. Some of my Batman collection are off limits to everyone but me. I won’t even let my wife dust them. Those items are easily breakable though and I would hate myself if my wife or kids accidently broke them.

For me, in the end, a toy should be touched and used. Its a tactile thing. Watching my son sitting there with Lotso is worth more than my whole collection to me.

You mention you keep one MIB and the other loose, but at the end you talked about the risk of battery leakage. So, are your boxed toys really MIB or did you opened them in order to remove the batteries??? I’m dealing with this situation right now. I usually purchase doubles of each. One to keep in box and the other to display loose, but I have NOT removed the batteries on the boxed ones. What do you recommend??? What have you done???

Also, in regards to the old toys not being worth much at the momment, I believe it has to do with the fact that they are very inacurrate and crappy. Until the TSC line came out, my favorite TOY STORY toys were the ones made by Burger King and a few others from JAPAN. If you noticed, the toys I mentioned increased in value. If Thinkway had done a line as good as the TSC back in 95 I bet they would be worth a fortune right now.

MIB? I know you don’t mean Men in Black but that is the only MIB.
I’m guessing Mint in Box.

Back in 95 I kept all my boxes, but opened all the toys. Even when the prices skyrocketed on ebay, I never sold them with their near mint boxes for profit. Just always wanted to keep the boxes. But when I did choose to sell a couple, I was able to include the boxes along with it, and make sure they’re going to good homes, Andy style, haha.
I keep the boxes for the TSC-ers, and open everything. I only keep the TSC boxes, becasue they’re replicas in their own right, as opposed to Twitch and Chunks package.

-sigh-

Toy Story 2 is basically against keeping toys in boxes and so am I. I was very disappointed seeing John Lassetter encouraging it.

Having said that, if a Stinky Pete does come out I would consider it.
