Thinkway's Toy Story Collection

Actually Andy did play with them at the beginning of Toy Story 3 as One-eyed Bart and Betty’s getaway crew. But I was thinking of just getting only one alien, but I think it would be a waste if the price of the regular aliens goes down. but then again, they’re never at target and I don’t live near Toys R US.

I have all of the collection with the exception of Lotso. Honestly, its me wanting to keep the good guys and not so much having the bad guys in my collection, along with pushing my budget to its limits. Although if they released the Prospector or Zerg, I would be much more inclined to get Lotso. But I am much more happier spending to budget on Totoro than Lotso at this time. Wished Pixar could have worked out a licensing deal with Studio Ghibli to sell them more than the Lotso plush they chose to go with.

Same here in Florida. :frowning:
Oh, and which one should I get first- TSC Rex, TSC Alien 3-Pack, or TSC Buzz (the regular one)?

Buzz, undoubtedly.

If it’s your first ever TSC toy then definitely go for Buzz, to quote Bo Peep, “He’s got more gadgets than a Swiss Army Knife.” He has almost everything you would want in a toy, and then some. And of the three, he is definitely worth the price tag.

As for the availability of these toys, I would say to keep an eye out, because my Target has started to clearance some stuff, including RC, which was marked down to 41.98 I believe. I don’t think that these toys will stick around after the year is over, as these don’t have quite the same mass appeal that things like Star Wars and Nerf do, and with no new movies to support the hype for the characters, I can see retailers wanting to free up their shelf space for toys that are going to sell regardless of if they have media to support them. I could see ToysRUS or an online retail site carrying maybe one or two more waves as exclusives, or having convention exclusives as bonus items, but other than that, I don’t see this line lasting past the end of this year, shortly into next year.

Did you get your Totoro yet? I bought mine from otaku.com via their eBay store. They had it to me in 3 days from Japan. - Based on that, I ordered a couple more Totoro things directly from their online store (not via eBay)… the post office tried to deliver this afternoon… only 2 days from Japan. So I don’t have it in my hands yet (I will post an edit if anything is awry)… but the prices are cheaper if you go directly to their online store instead of via eBay.

Speaking of Lotso, I’ve been wonders…will the fact that Lotso is strawberry scented cause negative effects in the future as it ages?

has anyone decided whether or not to puchase the woody’s round up guitar? my wife and i bought it today. also has anyone been able to locate the accurate ken sculpt?

(ps, i can not locate an avatar for my account how do we get one?)

thanks
ps2 also i am so grateful to all of you for your posts. they have helped my wife and i locate all of the toy story collection characters and saved us alot of time and energy.

just wanted you to know

Lotso- I would get TSC Buzz, and then Rex. The aliens and soldiers should be the last items you get.

I’ve thought of getting the round up guitar but the TRU near me doesn’t stock them. I also don’t want to put all the money done for it when I don’t even have a finished collection. To get an avatar you click on the Profile tab under the header.

2 weeks ago i bought Ken and Barbie from TRUs but the head sculpt wasnt right. I thought they never made it, until last week the same TRUs had it with the movie accurate head sculpt, i returned my old one and bought the new one.

It seems the movie accurate head sculpt of ken is very rare just like Bullseye.

There are three TRUs in the Bay Area and each has atleast 5-6 Bullseyes in good condition.

Hi,
finally Barbie and Ken come to Spain and all I´ve seen have the new sculpt… but unfortunateley no one of the New toy story Collection Items seems that are coming to here… :frowning: only Mattel Items…

Is there a Woody doll out there from Toy Story 3 that looks good and just has a pull string. I’d like it to be simple. I don’t need all the bells and whistles. The TSC one is too expensive for me, and I don’t need it to have an interactive mode. I saw another one at Wal Mart last night that looked good, but no pull string.

Playtime Sheriff Woody appeals most to me, but he has a hat recognition feature. Is there a way to turn that off? Or is there another toy that fits my standards?

Which is the “new” sculpt? The movie-accurate Ken or the incorrect one?

The movie accurate Ken is the correct sculpt. Sometimes you have to move out all the boxes (depending on how many are there) just to find a good sculpt. Luckily the TRU near me had some in stock, although I have not yet decided if I want him. I wish they sold them separately, I don’t want Exercise Barbie.

Unless you buy the non movie accurate Woody doll from the 90s, which is sold at the Disney store, you’re going to have to accept extra electronics in Woody.

Yes, I know that movie-accurate = correct… but they said “new sculpt”. I don’t know which one “new” refers to.

I am curious if that means they are all the wrong ones or all the right ones (in hopes that from now on, the right ones will start appearing more).

I’ve been to 9 stores with dozens of the Ken & Barbie sets and have not seen one set with the correct Ken.

Sorry, I mean the movie accurate one. It´s the only version aviable here!
I gest that the new stock…

There are some non TSC Woodys with pullstring like the Disney store´s one… buy I prefer the European one over the American:

Really close to the TSC one but cheaper!

Also you can find the Mattel one:

or the thinkway cheap (non ragdoll)

Or the american disney store, a mod from the 1995 original:

Ooh, awesome. Maybe the correct Ken will start showing up everywhere.

There’s always so many times that I get on here and read the question “I only have enough money to buy one… Which one should I get?”

Of course, the answer will always come down to personal preference, and no two people’s answer will be the same. For instance, I have NO desire to own a Lotso figure, but there are others who would have him very high on their list.

Then, of course, each person’s reasons for buying them are different. For me personally, I’m only buying them to display them, and I never play with them. For this reason, I don’t care for the electronics that Thinkway adds. I’m more interested in the character looking screen accurate… and some of the minor flaws don’t bother me as long as they don’t affect the appearance of the toys. Others buy them specifically for their play value, so they may have different character preferences.

However, all of this got me thinking… If I were starting over with the entire Toy Story Collection being out, in which order would I purchase them?

So, I thought it might be interesting for everyone to add their “official” list of which toys they would buy in order… and you can add your specific reasons why you would get them in that order if you would like.

As of this moment, I have the entire Toy Story Collection except Bullseye (which I haven’t found yet, but will get eventually) and the Utility Belt Buzz and Lotso (neither of which I have any desire to get), but I will include these on my list… Plus, I will include the Disney Store Hamm, which is not part of the actual Toy Story Collection, but might as well be, and the $15 Slinky Dog that you can find pretty much anywhere.

So, without any further ado, here’s my list of what MY purchase order would be:

  1. Buzz Lightyear - Generally can be found for $50 and is probably the most accurate considering Buzz DID have all those electronic bells and whistles in the movie. Well worth the price to get the most accurate Buzz ever made. This is a must buy.

  2. Woody - Can usually be found for the same $50 price tag as Buzz, which can be a lot for something that should really only have a pull-string. He’s not truly “worth” the same amount as Buzz, but it’s Woody… If you don’t have him and Buzz as part of your collection, then you don’t really have a Toy Story collection at all, do you? The high price almost made me decide to go for the cheaper pull-string only Woody, but after a lot of thought, I just had to get the TSC version. This was actually the first of my Toy Story collection that I bought, and honestly, if I were only going to buy ONE, it would be Woody, but that’s personal preference.

  3. Rex - I was able to get this one off of Amazon for pretty cheap (they’ve raised their prices since, I believe), but this is one that you will really, really like when you get it. Again, it doesn’t need all the extra electronics, but he’s still a great looking toy… and he’s huge. He’s almost impossible to find in stores (I’ve only seen him once), so you might be forced to get this one online. I’ve seen him anywhere from $45 to $60, so look around before you buy.

  4. Hamm - Really for only $20 this is a no-brainer. Toy Story fans have been waiting since the first movie came out to have an accurate Hamm and this is about as good as I could have asked for. No electronics, just a plain old full-size piggy bank that looks perfect with the rest of the collection… exactly what a Toy Story fan would want.

  5. Bullseye - I don’t know if I would have him this high if I actually owned him, but for $50, he looks awesome (in pictures I’ve seen online). He appears to be as accurate a toy as any others. Some have pointed out minor flaws and it definitely seems to be important to really check him out before you buy him to make sure his eyes and mouth look good.

  6. Green Army Men - Very accurate and only $15 (which honestly is still a little expensive for some plastic army men… but whatever) these are a great set anyway. They are pretty easy to pick up (again, only $15… and I see them everywhere), only make sure, as it’s been mentioned time and time again, to get the set with the certificate. Don’t know if the non-certificate set can even be found anymore, but they weren’t very accurate. (Of course, the non-certificate set will probably be worth a lot of money some day to those who still have an unopened bucket… just a guess.)

  7. Space Aliens - They don’t squeak (unless you modify them yourself), but for $30 you get three of them. (or $10 for one at Target) Overall, they look pretty good. No electronics of any kind to mess them up. For the price, it’s a pretty decent deal.

  8. Jessie - I’ve read lots of complaints on her, but I happened to find a really good one and I happen to really like her. Like Woody, I don’t think she’s really worth the $50 price tag for a toy that should just have a pull-string, but she’s an important part of the collection. Not as important as Woody, though, which is why I have him so high on the list and her so low. She’s probably better if you can wait and buy her when Toy R Us has one of their Buy One Get One Half Price sales.

  9. RC - He can be pretty expensive (I’ve seen him for up to $80), but I was able to get mine for Christmas, so I didn’t have to pay for it. I’ve seen him as low as $60, and honestly I don’t think he’s even worth that. He’s a fairly cool toy, he looks great, but after seeing Toy Story 3, I really don’t feel like I need him for my collection. However, I do have him and I like him well enough. I just think if I was starting over and buying them all with my own money… I might not get him.

  10. Mr. Potatohead - Like Hamm, Toy Story fans have been waiting forever for a Mr. Potatohead that looked anything like the one from the movies. The prototype looked decent enough, even though the eyes were fused together. Then it seems they changed the eyes to look a little less accurate and added the legs for safety reasons. Those things can be modified, but I personally don’t like to spend money on something that I have to then chop up to make it more accurate. For $50 it should really come movie accurate. To me, this one is NOT worth the money, BUT I still had to get him, because the only other Mr. Potatohead options look nothing like the movie. This is one that I would say to buy only if you are just a HUGE Potatohead fan or if you MUST have the entire collection of Andy’s toys (which is the category I fell into) to complete your set.

  11. Slinky Dog - The basic $15 Slinky Dog is an OK buy. I would prefer one with more accurate facial features, no rope / hole in the head, etc… but it seems we’re never going to get a movie accurate one, so you might as well buy this one to complete your collection… Which is kind of how I felt when buying this figure.

  12. Space Ranger (Utility Belt) Buzz Lightyear - I personally don’t want this toy because he only plays a small role on Toy Story 2 and never becomes part of Andy’s actual collection. I also don’t personally see the point in owning two Buzz Lightyears that are basically the same except for a belt (that the real Buzz doesn’t have) and a few different phrases. Still, for $50, if you’d rather have this one than the original one, I would say it’s “worth” the money, considering all the features you do get. Basically, if you don’t have a Buzz, and don’t care that this one isn’t the REAL Buzz, then this one is fine… I guess.

  13. Losto - This one I never had any desire to buy (before the movie was released or after). He just doesn’t look accurate, he seems very small compared to his movie version, and he’s not one of Andy’s toys. So, to me, he doesn’t seem anywhere near his $50 price, but there are others who really like him, and I don’t have a problem with that. Again, any list just comes down to personal preference and this was mine.

As far as others I would like to see, there was a time when I really wanted a Bo Peep, Rocky, and Wheezy, but after seeing Toy Story 3, I think I’m OK without them. I would really like it if Thinkway would make a Mrs. Potatohead… despite the fused eyes and legs, she’s bound to be better than the Playskool version. Also, If Thinkway ever made a Series 3 with accurate versions of Bonnie’s toys (Dolly, Trixie, Mr. Pricklepants, Buttercup, Peas-in-a-Pod, and Chuckles), I might buy them. I guess I’d have to see what they looked like first.

Trixie yes, but Peas-in-a-pod already have an accurate version. Dolly on the other hand can be easily made at home. Mrs. Potato is a yes.

I think they should have, out of respect of the voice actor, Wheezy and Lenny. He played a big part in pixar and should try to make cheap but accurate versions of those two characters.

Thanks, Lone Star! That really helped!

BTW, anyone that doesn’t have the Disney Store Hamm yet… go buy him. Now. I was on-the-fence about buying him at first, but as soon as you see him in real life, you’ll know you want him. No electronics, stands, or accessories makes him so nice and simple.
